Why do so many speak bad about a country they choose to live in? Clearly you are not proud to be "Thai" You need to be assimilated into the basic way of living. Isn't that why you lived there in the first place. Living with a woman half your age, drink driving many things that are not accepted in advanced countries.
I speak badly about stupidity no matter which country it exists in. What are these "advanced" countries you speak of? A pretty condescending view if you ask me. For the record: my wife is 3 years older than me, was born and raised here, and thinks general Thai driving habits are shocking.

We have a winner (kind of)! He was letting motorcycles from the side road turn against traffic and onto the pavement. Now I know most/all traffic laws in Thailand mean nothing due to a lack of enforcement, but never have I come across such a blatant situation where the RTP were encouraging illegal driving.

Nope. He didn't give 2 effs about pedestrians...

So I was driving to work and suddenly my turning lane got stopped by one of Bangkok's finest. Who would like to take a guess as to why he was stopping my lane. The "sidewalk" might be an obvious clue for some.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa ConnectWell, the "peasants" across in Vietnam are way more poor than the people in Thailand, BUT they manage to drive on one side of the road and wear helmets.
I never blame people for being less fortunate than myself, but I also don't accept poverty as an excuse for stupidity. It doesn't matter how poor you are - you should protect your children to the best of your ability. That means, if you can afford a motorbike, you can afford a helmet.

People should have the right to vote on any final brexit deal.
But what would be the point? Say there are two "deals" put forward by the government and the people vote for "Deal A" - the government takes "Deal A" to the EU and the EU doesn't agree with "Deal A". So the people's wishes don't matter because the UK can't twist the EU's arm by saying, "You have to take this deal because the people chose it". Additionally, you've just wasted millions of Pounds on a referendum for no reason at all.

Who is going to go to a place with 100's of police roaming around like in the picture to enforce the law. Maybe someone could explain to me what they are trying to achieve here? This only really hurts Thai's who are working there in my opinion and is a massive OG. Military Govt, Boy Scouts everywhere. Noooooo Thanks.
Well, the law says that no vendors are allowed on a public road, so once (sometimes twice) a day, the police leave the station at the top of Khao San and walk slowly down the middle of the road. Vendors ahead quickly pull their racks back in their shops and as soon as the police pass they push hem out again. It's a bit like the parting of the red sea and quite an amusing spectacle to observe.
Now, the problem could have been solved by making Khao Sam a pedestrian only street...

UPDATE: I asked at immigration (Bangkok) today and it is now a requirement for South Africans to provide a Thai Police Clearnace certificate when applying for an extension of stay. I asked if there was a list of countries somewhere online and was told "no". I also asked what the point was since anybody from any country could commit crimes in Thailand and was told that some South Africans were up to no good.?

The NCPO is the Junta! The fact that people (including the NCPO members) actually take Art.44 seriously and somehow "respect" the law of the NLA shows how effed up this country really is.

Actually the Thais do more things than taking selfies and been keyboard warriors, just for your information and knowledge. Have a look down below, just for a recent example. It is just that one has to have ones eyes AND mind open to see the big picture.

PHUKET: Two foreign divers relying on a GPS to guide them back to Phuket took an unplanned plunge when a flash flood swept their vehicle off a back road in Thung Yai district and into a canal on yesterday afternoon (Aug 9

Maybe I missed the part where NCC said that the only thing Thais do is take selfies, or are you implying that he lied about people taking selfies at the dam??

I've had 4 and these ceremonies taught them a lot of positive qualities.
How you even get away with criticizing the event, baffles me.
Because these activities, like so many others, are more about image than substance. If the activity was about mothers then kids without mothers present would not be forced to wai empty chairs, or in some cases have a stand
-in mother played by the nearest at hnmd woman - usually a teacher at the school.? I've got nothing against mothers' day activities at school, but I along with my family and friends (99% who are Thai) decry the wai/graap ceremony forced on the kids.

This is not an important matter – just a matter caused by somebody, some media. Just look at their motive. For what purpose did he write? Why should we allow ourselves to be used as their tool? Why? I like to know. What’s the point of asking this question?”
There are 10 sentences in this "response" - 5 of then are questions (mostly rhetorical and unrelated to the topic at hand). ? It's really hard talking in questions, never mind annoying.
I'm going to walk around at work today asking dumb questions like, "Do you want me to not pour the hot coffee on your shoes? I hear your favourite colour is blue - so why don't you like the sun? What did the sun do to you" etc. etc.
Bets on how long before I get punched in the face...

Once again non-Thai reading comprehension has failed. This article is about student loans and has nothing to do with the trillion baht teacher/government officer debt. Considering that some universities can cost as little as 10,000 Baht a year, it is feasible to graduate for under 50,000 Baht. 300 Baht will cover most student loans in around 10 years.

That's news to me, thanks. Seems unfair racial profiling.
Read Posts #1 & #3. The whole reason I started his thread is because the clearance certificate was requested for an extension of stay.
And it's not so much a case of racial profiling, more along the lines of political profiling.

Which immigration office? I suspect it is a local policy not a national one. I have seen no reports of it being required.
A Thai police clearance is accepted at nearby embassies and consulates.
I think the Police Clearance Certificate center checks with interpol for for any international alerts as part of their process of issuing one for foreigners.
It was Bangkok. Anyway, I will be there next week so shall find out where the policy comes from and post any relevant info.
