  1. In the past 15 years, the only time I can ever remember being denied a drink in a restaurant was during a Bhudda day once (and even then they just gave me mug instead). I believe the reason less people are in restaurants between 2 and 5 might have something to do with the fact that between 2 - 5 also happens to be between lunch and effing supper (the reasons that people generally tend to go to restaurant) The other issue is, besides the "concern for the youth" the original ban was seemingly put in place to prevent public servants going to and getting pissed AT RESTAURANTS, so they're lifting the ban where it all started, but are keeping it in place for retail outlets, which again, are the only places that actually consistently followed the law 🙄
  2. Doesn't matter: the king has the power and right to deny the government's request NOT the Privy Council - as an advisory body they could inform the king that the acting PM does not have the right to ask for dissolution and then the king could deny the motion.
  3. BJT screwed them over by not voting for their candidate in the last farce of an election, and now they're backing Anuting/BJT? What the actual...
  4. Well, how can they guarantee they will meet this condition since we just learned today that the Privyy Council has the authority (apparently) to overrule the government 🙄
  5. Indeed, if the figure was significant they would have published it. For all we know "some" could mean 5, in which case there's still a huge jump post covid.
  6. My father-in-law's dad is 100% Chinese - nobody thinks my FIL is mixed, or luk-kreung etc. They only start calling you that when your one parent is not South East Asian or Chinese basically. The whole "Ethnic Thai" argument doesn't hold much water - just don't tell the masses 🤫
  7. Not a good example since she is very rich. Her omelletes sell for 1,500 THB each and she (without permission) sold the customer a 4,000 THB one! So overcharged 2,500. Was only slapped with a 2,000 fine in the end.
  8. Indeed, at one of my local somtam shops, the prices have remained unchanged over the years, yet my bill keeps increasing since we now order more - portions are much smaller than even a few years ago.
  9. Probably with a side of sticky rice, although personally I find the meat a bit tough 🤣
  10. Yes, he even put up more afterwards - good for him. His sign wasn't illegal, so they couldn't force him to remove it - just "request". However, the fact that the police used their time to go talk to him speaks volumes of the way things happen in the UK.
  11. There was recently a story in the UK about the police asking a shopkeeper to remove a sign that called shoplifters "scumbags" because it might be offensive. Agree or disagree with Trump, nobody can deny that the US has actual free speech - the UK has compelled speech (you can say what you want as long as it is not "offensive")
  12. Indeed - nobody believes that the same media machine that spent(ds) so much airtime vilifying Trump somehow kowtowed to Trump to cancel a late night show that was dying a slow death in terms of viewership/revenue.
  13. I know a family (4) that visited Thailand twice more than they planned to in the past 12 months specifically because Dad enjoys a toke once in a while and loved that he could sit by the pool in his villa and smoke after the kids went to bed...so they'll be heading elsewhere now. On the flipside, I don't know of a single "non-smoking" family that cancelled plans due to weed being sold here.
  14. Did they pay back all the bailout tax money, covid refunds etc. or are we just writing that off and pretending they never went under? 🤔
  15. So no more Chang Water billboards around Thailand? Doubt it..
  16. I don't care since I like wearing jeans, but in the context of Thailand, jeans are considered worse than casual and ripped jeans are ranked even lower. I've seen many company days where "casual attire" was allowed, but jeans were forbidden. I don't know where the hate of jeans comes from, but it is what it is. She would know that.
  17. You mean like the PromptPay QR codes available at temples these days 🙄
  18. You missed the part where the concern was about farmers being able to meet the requirements for supplying to shops that are allowed to sell weed so it is not just non-medical users being targeted: "rule could marginalise small farmers unable to meet the medicinal-grade standards required"
  19. Well, that certainly narrows it down 🙄 Serious question, has anyone actually seen a police car out on patrol during the night? (or even during the day for that matter 🤔)
  20. Of course you can: Gambling on horse racing and buying lottery tickests are already legal in Thailand, yet all other forms of gambling are outlawed.
  21. I really hate when journalist reference other topics, such as "the subsidy scheme" in this article (which is crucial to understanding the core issue) yet fail to briefly summarise what they are referencing. Readers shouldn't have to go read other articles in order to make sense of a current one🙄
  22. "Surface threats" being foreign tourists wanting to have a look at the aircraft carrier, not knowing it's for Thai eyes only 🙄 Like they seriously think foreign spies are coming to steal the Spanish designed ship's "secrets". Wikipedia is generous calling it "the smallest functioning aircraft carrier in the world." 🤣
