Like a scene from a B movie: Separatist Leader Alexandr Borodaj with his entourage at the crash scene.........

  2. That's a difficult quest, since you rule out the old 2 strokes like Kawa GTO and Yamaha RX-Z.

An engine swap could be a nice project but problaly over your 15K budget.

Every now and then i see these old Honda CB 125's ( not at nice as on the pics) on which the Lifan 200cc engine is based.

But i think very hard to find one.

  3. Thanks Dutchbike.Nice to be here..Thanks for that NOS thread mention.Very interesting pics.As I mentioned Late next week I will venture to KK and that Yamaha dealer to buy something 2 stroke and NOS.Not sure what model yet but will post pics on purchase.

Good luck on your KK trip.

Don't forget to ask the manager if he can show you his warehouses, besides the showroom ( with the NOS bikes and lots of secondhand 2T bikes) he has got 2 warehouses in KK full with secondhand 2T bikes, sadly nothing exclusive but worth a view.

All the 2T bikes which where common all over Thailand years ago: NSR's Beat's LS's TZM's TZR's and loads of underbone 2T's

sorry for the "dusty" looking pics :-)

  4. Never thought as being Dutch supporting the "die Mannschaft" but bad ( football) feelings/memories from the past have faded and Germany is IMO the best TEAM in this WC.

Especially with a coach who looks like a Schlager singer they have my support LOL

How soon everybody forgets that Low is a serial booger eater.bah.gif

Football is not about good manners... he is also a public farter. He does funny faces as well.

  5. Is there any way of fixing the seat problem Dutchbike, without making the seat position too high? I quite fancy one of these 250's either Honda, or Kawasaki, but the comfort side (or lack of it) does put me off, also two up doesn't look that great either.

I learnt to life with the ( on longer trips) uncomfortable seat of the KLX,

The problem is that it is just to narrow,, you could have a seat shop make it wider, or order an ( expensive) aftermarket ( gel) seat.

An easy solution for a more comfortable seat is to find a sheepkin and just put it on the existing seat ( old school RTW riders used that a lot))

2up on a KLX (or CRF) on longer multiday trips is in my opinion not an option, the 250's are just to small/light and also a bit underpowered, and the subframe is not designed for heavy loads. for 1 person it's a perfect bike.

  6. Although I have no experience with riding a motorcycle in the Himalayas, i just want to say to the OP: Go for it when you have the chance!!

I made several trips to Nepal ( trekking) and those were the best trips in my life, to me the Himalaya is the most beautiful erea in the world.

The memories stay with you for the rest of your life.

  7. Yes, very nice story, some good information too, a couple of questions..

Where did you get your Laos insurance and how was your mate's 200cc power on the steep mountain roads?

I am wondering if there are any issues travelling two up, as i would like take the Mrs next winter? Like you I am not in any hurry 80-90kph max seems a good and then crawling along at other times to avoid potholes seems sensible too.

    Thanks for the report...

The insurance we got after we were done with all the border formalities, and already crossed the border, there where a few offices after the Laos immigration and we took it from Allianz Laos, you get a sticker ( proof of payment) what you have to put on your bike. Nobody is checking if you have insurance but it's highly recommanded that you do it.

The 200cc Lifan cross from my mate did OK on those steep mountain roads, but then again the speed was low, the only "moments" I had where when i was distracted my the magnificent scenery.... oeps another corner coming up :-)

2up would be possible but it depends which bike you have, and enough room for your gear.

  8. Good luck deciding Yankee....

I think you can't go wrong with either of these bikes, good value (fun) for the money.

Mayby the time has come these bikes are becoming popular again.

    I'm happy i picked up my N.O.S TZM for 58K :-)

Here are some pics of the Serpico SS what basicly is a special edition of the KRR

Even more special are the PDK Kawasaki's

The KRR's and special editions are the most popular among the Thai 2T fans.
