Feel sorry for AN posters who bought electric
Gweiloman replied to Celsius's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Pretty much all EV owners in Thailand have a wall charger included when they purchased their vehicle. Free installation too. It’s not my fault that the US lacks behind the rest of the world even when it comes to the electricity infrastructure. As for far travelling/long distance, it’s all relative. If you’re doing 1,000 km trips regularly in the US, then don’t buy an EV as the charging infrastructure, much like the rest of the infrastructure is 3rd world. In Thailand, this is a walk in the park. -

If EV sales are crashing all over the world, why does the US want to impose a 100% tariff on Chinese made EVs and the EU imposing over 40% tariffs? Cleverer people than you have done research and tests to show that modern EV batteries have a useful life of over 5,000 cycles. This easily covers a period of over 12 years by which time, the car (not the battery) has probably reached its end of life. I would be glad if Thailand would have a colder climate. Sadly though, the coldest it ever gets, realistically, is about 16 degrees C. I actually think an EV battery would love this cooler temperature. -

What complete nonsense and utter rubbish. If I was still working and my company was paying for my petrol, of course I would drive a petrol car. On the other hand, if my company was paying for my electricity bill at home, which was in fact the case and not for my petrol, then I would drive an EV. Just because your “wifey” visits customers in the middle of nowhere where they are probably burning kerosene in oil lamps for light doesn’t mean that there aren’t PTT, PT and Bangchak charging stations along the way. And if doesn’t see any charging stations, it’s probably because she isn’t looking for one (why would she?) or visually challenged, to say the least. -

As far as I can recall, not a single EV owner on this forum has stated that EVs are suited for everyone. Most have gone to great lengths to state exactly the opposite, that if you are a regular long distance driver or have no access to home charging, an EV is probably not a good choice. No one has ever stated that their lifestyles is all that exists. However, I personally don’t know anyone who regularly drives long distances, requiring multiple charging stops to reach their destinations. I’ve had my EV for over a year. The longest journey I’ve made since buying it was from CM to Pai. Did this without having to stop and charge anywhere. If I were to go to Bkk from CM, to where I used to live, it’s a distance of 720 km. This would require 1 charging stop, same as for an ICEV. Since I would have to make multiple stops for food, rest and nature calls, I don’t see how an EV would be inferior in performance. Of course there will always be someone different. There was a poster recently who claims that he drives from Phuket to BKK 5 times a week. Also, he gets calls from his employer in the middle of the night telling him to make a 300 km journey pronto. In his case, he really should just drive a pickup with an auxiliary fuel tank in his cab. -

Excellent question. Answer is very few because contrary to what non EV owners think, we seldom charge anywhere other than at home. For the 1st year of my ownership, I charged at a public charging station for a total of 0 times (zero, nil). There was no need to. -

Well, I’m yet to come across one that’s not working when I want it to. I agree that Thai competence is not first rate but it seems to be superior to what’s available in the US. All those examples you gave are of American cars and owners. Tells a lot about the competence of the average car owner and by extrapolation, the authorities responsible for establishing a working infrastructure -
Actually, I think the global majority doesn’t care either way. This is an European conflict, nothing to do with much of the rest of the world. Not a single satang of my money is being spent on this conflict, thank goodness. On the other hand, all this uncertainty is driving up the prices of some commodities nicely. Wondering if I should take profit now or let it run further.

Simple question. Have you ever seen it for yourself in real life? Or just off the internet? -

My oh my, you really are.. And to think that I thought I was getting some real revelations from you. I was also thinking that ICEVs never run out of gas and never get stranded but I’m not so sure now. No one that I know has a petrol pump in their house. But every house that I’ve been to has a power outlet with which to charge my EV if needed. I reckon the chances of getting stranded in an EV is less than the alternative. -

Surely you’re not so ignorant as to think that these pictures are real? Think about it (challenging I know but try nevertheless). You get home and realise that you only have sufficient petrol for another 5 kms but the nearest petrol station is 10 kms away. What will you do? I get home in my EV and horror or horrors, I only have sufficient range of 1 km. Fortunately, my charger is only 2 metres away. Relieved, I plug it in, enter my house, shower, relax with a highball, have a great dinner, watch a movie or two and retire for the night, to awake the next morning with a fully charged battery and a range of 450 km. Oh, did I forget to mention that it also only cost less than Thb 200? -

I didn’t realise that petrol and diesel etc fell from the sky directly into the fuel tanks of ICEVs. Thanks for yet another amazing revelation. I’m learning lots today. To other less informed posters, does getting the fossil fuel needed for an ICEV into the fuel tank more or less polluting than electricity transmtted over electrical cables to charge an EV? I have never seen an electron tanker (as opposed to a fuel tanker) transporting electrons to a charging station. -

US made EV and US charging infrastructure. No wonder she’s having a bad day. No such issues in Thailand with Chinese made EVs, I’m glad to report. -
You have bought into the propaganda and under the illusion that this is a war between Russia and Ukraine. In reality, this is a war between NATO and Russia with Ukraine being used as a proxy. Russia has been holding back, keeping arms and troops in reserve, in case NATO troops officially enters the war. It’s not that Ukraine is not allowed to use long range weapons to strike deep inside Russia, it’s that NATO is concerned about the consequences. They have been taken completely by surprise at the strength of the army and economy, because they have been drinking their own kool aid. What Ukraine wants or not has no bearing whatsoever.

Could be envy. Used to be that I didn’t like cats but I would never think of criticising a cat owner for their choice. However we adopted a kitten at the end of last year before its eyes were even open and she is now the darling of the house. Still stupid though, getting stuck up in the tree a couple of times a month. -

I didn’t realise that ICE vehicles don’t catch fire. Thanks for that revelation. On the other hand, I don’t feel sorry for having bought an EV. In fact I’m delighted that I’m saving thousands of baht every month not having to spend money on petrol and other consumables that ICEVs require. It’s even more satisfying currently thanks to the free charging given by BYD to some of the earlier buyers. I especially value the quiet time I have watching videos on my huge infotainment screen while charging, in air conditioned comfort. All for free of course. -

Strange that it’s always only the anti-EVers that bring up this EVs are greener argument. None of the EV owners on this forum has ever stated that as one of the contributing factors in the purchase decision. It is however a fact that EVs significantly reduce air pollution in urban areas. Up until a few years ago, major cities like Beijing and Shanghai were perpetually covered in smog, in part due to emissions from ICEVs. Thanks to the EV revolution, this is no longer the case. End of “useful” life EV batteries (<70% SOH) are expected to be repurposed as battery storage for home and commercial use. End of useful life does not mean end of life, just that the range has dropped. This is still sufficient for many people who use their cars for commuting and shopping. The reason that only a small percentage is currently being recycled is because very few batteries have reached the end of their useful life insofar as powering a vehicle is concerned. In spite of what some anti-EVers claim, the batteries do easily last 8 years or more. So the 95% figure you quoted above are probably batteries damaged beyond repair and is probably only a small figure in absolute terms. Quite a few EV owners on here have solar at home, myself included. PEA sells electricity at a heavily discounted rate after 10 pm and on weekends as they have excess production. Charging an EV off peak is a win win for both the consumer and the supplier. I really hate the smell of diesel fumes especially first thing in the morning. My first thought whenever I see black smoke belching out from a vehicle is that a buffalo somchai is the vehicle owner. Seems like I’m wrong as there is a poster on here who thinks that black smoke matters. I guess one can’t teach stupid, regardless of nationality. -
Actually, Russia has been incredibly strong beyond anybody’s expectations. The full force of NATO with the exception of mass deployment of NATO troops has been thrown at Russia and yet, the Russians are still advancing on a daily basis. The majority of western arms have proven impotent against a peer adversary. This is now just a contest of the west against the rest and I have no doubt who will emerge victorious.

What a rubbish report. From the article Another large-scale project was also revealed by Reuters: a Russian-Chinese center for research as well as production of drones could be created in the province of Xinjiang. The center could produce 800 drones per year. Moscow's military capacity would thus be strengthened. Does anyone think that a factory in China can only produce 800 drones a year? They obviously have no idea about China’s capabilities.
