I've watched it, its brilliant. Its not really about equality, all of the players are in financial trouble. Some through gambling, fraud. One left a Casino in PI owing a ton. Another lost millions in his job as a futures trader. The main character had gambling debts, borrowing money to bet on horses. So poor, yes. Also their own doing. So somewhat more complex than just them and us. Of course, the people running the game are ultra wealthy but the game is optional. Its way more sophisticated and layered than "them vs us" As for copying scenes. No idea why they think this would happen.
