I've watched it, its brilliant. Its not really about equality, all of the players are in financial trouble. Some through gambling, fraud. One left a Casino in PI owing a ton. Another lost millions in his job as a futures trader. The main character had gambling debts, borrowing money to bet on horses. So poor, yes. Also their own doing. So somewhat more complex than just them and us. Of course, the people running the game are ultra wealthy but the game is optional. Its way more sophisticated and layered than "them vs us" As for copying scenes. No idea why they think this would happen.

Not everyone is as selfish as you. People are struggling, they need to get back to work. This industry pays a lot of people.

Thailand to “focus on quality tourists who can spend more”
pedro01 replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
Yes, China us an entire country, there is no "on size fits all" Chinese citizen. The one's buying condos aren't the same as those on zero dollar tours. Hope this helps. -
Thailand to “focus on quality tourists who can spend more”

Look at all the paupers coming out because they think they are "low quality" Westerners ARE the high rollers, as are the sex tourists. It's the Chinese on zero dollar pre-paid tours they want less of. So wind your necks in. This isn't about us. -
AMG C43 Coupe - good choice of car for Thailand?

Nope. Roads here are fine and anyway - even on a bumpy road the ride quality is still going to beat the crayola out of a Yaris. -

AMG C43 Coupe - good choice of car for Thailand?

BTW - My take on the free servicing - I am not a fan. It isn't free, so you are paying for servicing up front - something I would prefer not to do as I don't even know if I will have the car through the period. The warranty though - I'll take that. Just never had to use the warranty on a Benz. Funnily enough - I used to live in Japan and I started and ran the Thai branch of a subsidiary of a Japanese tech firm here. When Toyota went to the US - they got an immediate reputation for amazing quality and reliability. It turns out (this is what Toyota execs told me), that they over-engineered for reliability because they didn't have the support network in the US to handle cars coming back with issues. You might have presumed that everyone was making them as well as they could and the Japanese were simply better - but they sunk a larger amount into that side of things because of lack of men on the ground. Mind you - that does not excuse BMW and this A gearbox that went on day 9 and I returned the car The return car blowing the gearbox on week 9 and I returned the car I talked to Cesar Badilla - Director or Aftersales BMW Thailand - got a full refund and then told him "OK - now - if you want me to spend this on another BMW, tell me what has a different gearbox from that one and get me a big discount" - and they did 2 Fuel Pumps on that one - but to be fair - when the 2nd one went, they found the issue was the pumps getting gunked up from the fuel here - I switched to a different brand and all good I also had one out of warranty issue that they fixed on warranty anyway It's not great I know quality-wise - but the way they treated me - even when asking for money back - was stellar. Their cars are a lot of fun to drive and I still have a soft spot for them. How many car companies would give you access to one of their senior directors? And also - at that point, the dealer was already telling me "look - if BMW don't sort you out, we will". So when I'm looking for a car and I go to BMW - I have no doubt I will be well looked after, whatever happens and I find that rare nowadays. -

I think you mean warranty. A company with a very low quality product would not open themselves up to the risk of a long term commitment to fix all issues. It would be cost prohibitive. The warranty actually tells us it's not too bad there. It also tells us that most likely - companies like ZF that make the gearboxes are bearing some of the brunt if there is a fail there. -
Thai Court rejects dual pricing case from expat in Hua Hin

If you come here for cheap sex and spend most of your time on a barstool, you are correct. I have always been made to feel very welcome by the Thais I meet. I think it makes a difference if you work here vs being a retiree. At that point, you are pretty much forced to integrate. I've given speeches at at least 20 Thai weddings. Once, the other speech was given by a former deputy PM. I've been 'guest of honor for the evening' at a number of Thai funerals. Odd thing to be asked to do. I go to Thai people's houses, they come to mine. I am always treated well. There's a bunch of pubs and restaurants I frequent where I am made to feel truly welcome. If you live in a tourist area like Pattaya, I get that there may be some bad feelings initially but people do put up witha lot of <deleted> there and there is often friction between tourists and locals all over the world, especially budget locations. I also find that even in Pattya, you just gotta be nice. Those of you saying Thais hate us, do you really know that many? Do they consistently treat you poorly? It has not been my experience both with the rich, the poor and those in between. If I did, I would not be here. Thai people are just like people anywhere else. There are obvious cultural differences but even that is part of the charm. You just have to understand and navigate it -

I do use International Hospitals - I find that BNH Soi Convent is extremely expensive. My Step Mother got sick when we were in Pattaya and I found Bangkok Hospital there, the prices were eye watering. Bumrungrad though - the prices are pretty reasonable. Bangkok Hospital Petchaburi too. It depends what we need really. Locally we live closer to Samitivej Srinakarin which is private but found Ramkhamhaeng Hospital very good and very cheap - English isn't as good but certainly good enough. Also - one hospital in Minburi is great and inexpensive too. Can't recall the name now - so I won't guess. But they aren't really that expensive. When my daughter was born at Bumrungrad - the birth package, including CS was about 125,000 Baht - way, way cheaper than private in the UK and a fraction of US prices. It is nowhere near the most expensive - not even close. -

If you are a taxpayer - you should get a Social Security card and have named a hospital for free or massively reduced healthcare. I know I did - I never used it - but apparently it put me on par with the locals. In the UK - you get free healthcare but foreigners have to pay. Same deal. In Thailand - there are many that are not taxpayers too and don't have the social security card. These are the poorest of the Thais. Nobody should expect to pay what they pay. So by my reckoning - one price for Social Security card holders makes sense, one price for the dirt poor who are scraping by and not officially employed - then the foreigner price. I can see 3 tiers being ok. Not sure what #4 is though. -

Bizarre - the doc that did my knee op graduated in Harvard and worked at a govt hospital and Bumrungrad. English was perfect. The anesthetist gave me options prior to the op that was like a Smorgasbord of opiates, gasses, injections for me to choose from - all in English and I even asked him if he wanted to come to a party at my house in a few weeks and could he bring his bag of drug - all in English, he got it, we had a laugh. In fact, I cannot recall going to see a doctor in the past 15 years that didn't speak perfect English. In fact, a friend of mine is a software developer for Bumrungrad and she speaks perfect English too. Where is it you live in Thailand? 1980? Also - I don't take my wife into doctors appointments. That sounds weird to me - does she go in on the offchance you might use it as an opportunity to escape or something?
