  1. I guess I haven't made my point quite clear: my friend has booked this trip to Thailand without consulting me; she doesn't know anything about Thailand. She was not aware that April is the hottest month, she was not aware of the pollution problem or of the political trouble, and she has no idea what Songkran is about. I tried to tell her but she doesn't believe it's going to be that bad... I guess some stupid travel agent offered her some discounted tickets and she thought it would be a good idea to go to Thailand... She is definitely not the sort of person who would appreciate having water thrown at her!!! Her little boy is a fragile 4-year old. I tried to convince her to cancel the whole trip but she won't . At least she seems to have booked herself good hotels/resorts... Someone please tell me if they can go to the Zoo and Doi Suthep? Is there any chance that there will be lunatics throwing water in those parts of town...? And should I advise them to wear face masks?

    Thanks again.

what political trouble? in Chiang Mai? i just spent 5 days in bangkok. one would never know there is any "political trouble". over-reaction.

  2. Theres some new condo's just been finished over the

road (thats Mae Jo Road),from Meechok Plaza, the area

has a good road network to all Chiang Mai,easy access

    to shops,banks,restaurants,movies,Central Festival is 10

    mins away.

The problem is you would be buying at the height of the

market ,and lots of properties seem to be asking telephone

number amounts, and at those prices return would be very

low, but so are interest rates.

My wife has houses in this area and they are very easy to

find tenants for,but most are long term anyway.a good

location i think,as i live here as well and everything is very

    handy.

    regards Worgeordie

those high numbers could explain why some 40 or so days after the "grand opening party" it appears that perhaps one or two units are either bought or rented out. if you go by there at night (we live 5 minutes from there and often walk past in the evening), it appears to be a ghost town, that there are more security guards than tenants. who would want to live in a place when you look out the window (as there is no room to even sit on the tiny balcony) all you see in the morning and afternoon are cars backed up and blowing smoke in your face! same for the monstrosity across from Tanawan. we counted at least 160 units - 80 of which have been complete for about 3 months now. there is one tenant in the entire complex!

  3. There is a Moo Baan on Canal Road that has a massive lake in it and a lot of the houses back onto it.

The only problem with this Moo Baan is that many houses are derelict and there is no housing committee, so no security and no maintenance.

Can't remember the name, maybe someone else knows it

if it's the one i'm thinking of - can't recall the name either, residents have complained for years that the moobaan is overrun with snakes, some of them very large - possibly pythons. a number of cats carcasses have been found days after they have gone missing. it's a bizarre moobaan. had to go to a meeting there one time and took a look around. some homes are fabulous while others are shacks, about to collapse. no maintenance whatsoever.

  4. i'm not aware of any lakeside homes unless it's a private lake on the premises. as for swimming in them, i wouldn't due to the bacteria but often kids do. i have gone swimming in the moving water where people go rafting like up in Mae Wang.

  5. "Why not" is not in the old city, but in Nimman but its the best pizza in town for sure!!

This is the address: 14 Nimmanhaemin Rd. Soi 11

    Bon appetit ! thumbsup.gif

    you gotta be kidding.

worse pizza in cnx, like a giant cracker with a half empty ketchup packet smeared on it and only a few strands of cheese. Awful. bah.gif

...and i dont usually say bad things about restaurants.

have to say i didn't care for their pizza either.

  6. There's a shop in pantip plaza also.

Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app

Yes, there is a huge store on the ground floor in the Pantip Plaza. It`s called something like Office World, I think? Anyhow, you can`t miss it once you walk in there.

All post offices sell packaging for parcels and for shipping small items.

    Office Depot

    http://www.officedepot.co.th/

i was in Panthip Plaza this evening. the store mentioned above as well as it's successor (whatever the name was) are both gone - out of business. there is nothing there but a huge, empty space.

  7. If you are born in Thailand to parents of Thailand plus another country you get 2 nationalities until aged 18 assuming that you register for both.Hopefully you will be brought up speaking both languages and take the best of each culture. Speaking 2 languages has a great benefit and Thai being a tonal language and in my children's case English being a phonetic language this is a great foundation for learning more languages. As a Thai citizen you can register for state healthcare etc. As a citizen of a Western country travelling is a lot easier and being Thai you can live here without a visa and 90 day reporting. After 18 in the current law you have to choose one nationality only (unless your name is Taksin). If you are only interested in the best hamburger restaurant and knocking everything Thai I guess there is no advantage in being dual nationality.

as i understood it from the OP, neither parent is Thai so the child will be entitled to zero.

  8. there are dozens and dozens of paper shops all over C.M. many are to be found in the vicinity of the universities and are much, much cheaper than some of the big names mentioned - by 30% or thereabouts. some that look like holes in the wall have incredible stocks piled high to the ceiling. one of my favorites is down the street from the train station on the R side. another is in Chang Phueak near Thannin market. i would suggest you pick yourself up some kind of guide to C.M. as it seems you often are asking where to find this and that. it's not a criticism so please don't take it that way, but it would make your life much easier.

  9. all I know is when we needed a songtaew in January for about 5 of us - me and 4 Thais - from Airport Plaza, not a single songtaew would take less than 30 Baht per head. all of the Thais, including students, were paying 30 Baht without questioning it at all. i did over-hear some of them chatting among themselves wondering if fares had gone up, but they did not make a big issue of it.

CHIANG MAI, 22 Mar 2014, (NNT) - Police officials report that there were multiple bombings in Chiang Mai last night, saying no group or individual has come forward to claim responsibility, while acknowledging the incidents were the work of ill intentioned individuals creating public alarm.

If no group or individual came forward to claim responsibility, I wonder why the police feel confident stating that this was the work of ill intentioned individuals creating public alarm, rather than someone/group with a specific agenda?

The red shirts are not yet ready to openly admit they are nothing but a group of terrorist thugs.

It is common knowledge but they will not admit it. Just look at the pictures of them beating a monk just because he tried to stop them from destroying property that did not belong to them.

They are loosing there support here in Chiang Mai so they are resorting to more violent methods.

Sad days ahead for Chiang Mai.

it just goes to show how little you know about this country even though you believe you are an expert. the PT party are NOT losing their support in C.M.

  11. if you do a google search there are a number of sites that have posted this info...

it's confusing because for example in the case of the green songtaews, there are 3 different shades of green, all going somewhere different.

it's best to learn what direction you want to go, i.e. San Khampaeng, Hang Dong, Mae Rim, Mae Jo, etc...and learn the name in Thai that way all you have to do is look at the top of the songtaew and see where you are going...

  12. i wouldn't live in a 20 year old rotten concrete, dangerous, abandoned building if you let me stay there for free!

furthermore this seems to be a Chinese interest. take that as you may.

  13. i'd be curious to know why you care so much and are so interested about a condo building sitting in the elements for 20 years? would you really consider buying a condo in there? also a project riddled with lawsuits....i don't get it. what is the motivation?

  14. Sichonsteve, please take a look at spacedoc's website. Papers from various studies are cited and the concensus is that the only real benefit of statins in low doses is to reduce inflammation. There are other drugs and supplements that reduce inflammation, of course. One of the interesting things that you'll find on space doc's site is that the famous Framingham Heart Study did not find that high cholesterol levels cause heart disease. It was later claimed by various pharmaceutical companies that it did. Although some people do not seem to have serious side effects when they take statins, there is now a lot of evidence that statins have caused a huge amount of harm. There are lots of links to the studies on space doc's site. I have heart disease and the dietary approach alone has not worked for me so I take several cholesterol lowering drugs along with plenty of coQ-10 and flaxseed oil since fish oil has been found to be ineffective and often contaminated.

spacedoc is selling books. what's the difference?
