  1. my wife owns properties in Saraphi for many years. she had to bring in 2 meters of soil. her properties were some of the few in that village that have not flooded.

Saraphi is not my cup of tea...but to each their own. about 8 months ago we went to one of the properties which surrounded by rice fields only to find a snake as big as my leg (no exaggeration) living on one of the vacant properties. the most exciting place to go in Saraphi is 7-Eleven...

  2. Round 2 Lamphun, real heavy, big drops. Glorious.

oh please send some of it to Sansai! we are dying here with the bad air, too afraid to leave the house except a quick market run. we are all coughing like crazy.

  3. we will be traveling to Koh Kood next week and would like to bring our Samsung Galaxy tablet computer with us. Last year when we traveled to Prachuap Khiri Khan we got a 30-day plan from dtac - 3G? SIM card to connect to the Internet while we were away. Does anyone know if we would be able to do this on Koh Kood? i've studied the dtac website for coverage but it is not clear to me if it is available. i do see Koh Chang as having coverage but the website is not very clear. i just got back from the local mobile shop that sells dtac coupons and purports to be a dtac rep, and their answer to my question was "mai loo".

    thanks for any info.

  4. The cleanliness of kebab house really put me off, will not be risking my health in there again. They were reusing the dips for masala dosa from other people and the build up of sludge around the bowls looked very old. Was surprised the next day when I didn't get the runs. Hinlay seemed far cleaner and I will certainly be returning as the food was tasty and served In a pleasant setting.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

i would suggest that Kebab House is infinitely cleaner than the average restaurant in India. i've been going there since they opened and don't believe they were "reusing the dips for masala dosa from other people." i didn't even know they served dosa there.

Hinlay is a nice place, but it's not really Indian food. i do like it there and enjoy the Thai and Indian dishes.

  5. they are not "killers". that is total and complete rubbish.

    Oh yes they are!!!

rubbish. post on conspiracy theory websites.

They deplete life giving COQ10 and are a major cause of strokes and heart attacks - precisely the thing they are supposed to guard against!!!

If you want to take these then that's up to you - I have already dissuaded several of my mates not to take them bearing in mind they are so dangerous and do nothing for you!!

    please post your credentials.

    "do nothing for you". LOL

  6. Statins really are killers unless taken by a person with existing cardio-vascular disease in moderation to reduce inflammation. Spacedoc, who wrote the book "Lipitor: Thief of Memory" has got lots of good information on his site spacedoc.net.

  8. Use Thai or Chinese Cinnamon sparingly, it's heavily toxic, far better to get Cinnamon from Ceylon if you intend to consume in any quantity above a sprinkling. Google coumarin for further info.

How would I know the origin? I'm sure I bought cassia bark in Australia once and it looked different, although it was a long time ago. I always buy cinnamon sticks and grind my own as it's fresh and I know what's in it. I cook a lot of Indian, Middle Easten and Greek food so we go through quite a bit of it.

Cinnamon on the left, Casia on the right.

Also, Cinnamon from Ceylon usually states where it's from and is easily distinguishable by price.

just checked the sticks we have here, sold in bulk from kad luang as cinnamon in a package with only Chinese labeling and they are identical to the one on the right in the photo. just tossed them in the bin!

  9. after 5 days of feeling lousy i started on a course of Ciprofloxacin beginning yesterday and i'm already feeling much, much better and have not had any cramps or diarrhea today.

so some of the bacterias you get from food will need antibiotics. i did wait a number of days and was not getting better.

  10. anyone know if the Promenada still has a discount on Wednesday and if it is all showtimes that day? we have some relatives in town with kids who want to see Lego movie so the savings would be substantial. can't find any info on prices in Thai or English. anyone know? thank you.

  13. one has to be very careful experimenting with Thai cinnamon. a friend in Bangkok who was diagnosed with diabetes began grinding sticks of Thai cinnamon and adding the powder to food and i think coffee - i forget, it was quite a few years ago. he was dizzy, confused, and passed out at home and was taken to the hospital. he was found to be hypoglycemic at the time. his blood sugar had dropped to something like 38 mg/dl (from 200+ when he was found to be diabetic). the doctor warned him how strong Thai cinnamon is and told him it was very dangerous what he was doing.

  14. there are about 10 or more J.I.B. in Chiang Mai. there are 5 between where C.M. Ram is and Pratu Chang Phuek alone. (all on the same side of the moat). the best IMO is the one inside Computer City. they seem to have access to computer data bases that the other shops don't have. for example the one inside Panthip Plaza will say "if it's not there, they don't have it". whereas the one in Computer City will find an item you want, order it and it will be there in 2-3 days. they once found an extremely difficult item to find for me that had been sitting in Koh Samui forever. i paid the deposit and it was here in C.M. 5 days later. they have huge stocks in the back. the one in Computer Plaza? Icon PLaza? is fairly helpful too.

  15. ^ Yes, that's one of my favourite sites in Thailand. Specifically the long drawn out construction / renovation topics. Very Zen to see a rice field change into someone's dream home (or shack, as it may be), one step at a time. (Or more typically, two steps forward, one step back. smile.png )

i like that website a lot too.
