  1. Went last night and last year. Only thing I can agree with Oscar2 about is that it is almost identiccal. Lots of food, displays, dancing, sideshows, train rides etc. Always packed so if you have a few kids you need to keep a close eye on them or if they are older have a pre-arranged meeting point for later. Its nothing spectacular but to me no way as grim as Oscar2 portrays...saw no fights or gangs (this time or last time). Its a harmless way to spend a few hours with younger kids. I would be more concerned with taking the elderly or infirm, the ground is slippery and uneven in lots of areas and the crowd makes it diffult to move through as a group. Its not a must see event by any means but kids will like it (pre-school to teenagers).

each year at least one or two Burmese gang members is stabbed by a rival gang member at the winter fair. yaabaa and ice is openly sold/traded. definitely not for young children.

  2. The spam I get mostly comes from AIS itself - offers for baht/minute packages, etc.

i get about 50% from DTAC, another 40% from popular brands all over Thailand (S&P, K-Bank, Central - those 3 many) and 10% the shady ones looking to make money if you call the number back. i guess they debit the mobile credit.

  3. I've had a DTAC account for a couple of years now and only get one or two a month. There must be something you guys responded to or signed up for in the past that got you on the spammers' lists.

the only thing i can think of is that the banks are selling the numbers? i had to give my number to 2 different banks that i bank with. it was required to receive these codes to enter when using on-line banking. i've had the accounts for many years but only in the last 3 years or so activated the internet banking option.

  4. I have the same problem with DTAC. It's particularly annoying when you travel and thus incur roaming charges. I phone them regularly to stop ; it stops for a day (sometimes less) and then they're back. It's a money making scam for them and illegal to do so in most other countries. But hey this is Thailand.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

i too, get as many as 15 per day, each and every day from dtac; horoscope, sexual advice, love doctor (whatever that is), ads from coffee shop chains, skin whiting, S&P, promotions for everything under the sun. i also get as many as 5 automated calls per day which i hate. i too, went to dtac when i was in Bangkok and complained. it stopped for about 12 hours and the next day i began getting more than ever. the wife told me she gets as many as 25 per day at times. someone is definitely making money somehow.

  5. good timing on this thread as we need to get our tanks pumped out; maybe even today. been at least 8 years since they were pumped out last time. so thanks, as i was curious about prices. we didn't have any problems with toilets backing up but we had reconstruction going on here for a couple of weeks and one of the workers suggested we check our tanks. it took him a good hour to free the brass covers. we can look into the tanks and see that one is almost completely full while the other is not nearly as full.

  6. Ban tawae is as cheap as you get., for a quality bed, don't mess about.

I will tell you what 16K gets you.....an mdf crappy bed, an mdf crappy tiny wardrobe and a pointless crappy mdf dressing table.

Perfect chalet bedroom furniture but when a decent mattress is 6k plus why skimp on the bed.

Go an spend 25k if you think you are worth it.

you are joking i think. 6K for a decent mattress? a decent - not a very good one will run 13-16K. anything less ---> = complete garbage.

  7. If you are here on holiday I cannot recommend Dr. Bunnakit.

His private clinic is difficult to find, his one staff person speaks no English, you will likely be the only Westerner there (if you can find it) and his clinic is open only during specific hours.

Additionally, my personal experience with him was such that I would not go again, nor recommend him. There was no physical exam, no privacy, only a brief conversation, and then antibiotics.

"...you will likely be the only Westerner there..." lol this is Thailand. what a surprise. afraid of being around Thai people or something? all clinics in Thailand are open "during specific hours." no surprise there either. some people should really stay home as they can't adapt in other countries.

  8. You could try contacting Simon Bradshaw at Perfect Homes (website) He and his (thai) wife were both teachers here and have a school age daughter, so can probably give you the lowdown on education options, as well as accommodation if you need that too.

Best of luck with your adventure-great life experience for your daughters.

...not unless your just trying to drum up business for him of course whistling.gif

seems that is the case as the recommendations for this falang are ad nauseam.

  9. Well if you went to kamtiang pkant market you can see many.

I have some from there....actually didn't know what they were called.

50bt gets you a plant about 60cm high.

Look for the stalls just selling water plants...some of the others sell also but not many.

hmmm...thanks. been there a number of times looking, asked 5 or 6 sellers and nobody knew where to get them. they all knew the plant of course. i'll give it another go. could be this is not the time of year and no one has them now. we need a lot of them. 60 cm is pretty small. thx again.

  10. Immigration police do not routinely arrest and deport foreign musicians in CM for 'working' without work permits. they are everywhere in the city (and everywhere in Thailand) except i have not noticed any in the Southern provinces. most of them aren't being paid a single Satang. been that way for at least 30 years that i know of.

foreign musicians are not among 100's of suspicious deaths because they were jamming.
