I agree with Bahtboy, I also send money monthly from Santander Bank in the Uk via Bangkok Bank London Branch to my Bangkok Bank account. No problems at all and relatively cheap and a quick service.

I have a True wifi package, along with a True Platinum TV package. The two went down about 7pm about a week ago. I rang the call centre and was told the service would be up at 0115am the next day. It was not, I rang again and was told to call after 8am when more English speaking staff were on duty.
By 10am the service was up and running again with no interruptions since. I am in Bangkok.

Do you vet many false alarms with both?

Pir detectors relate to infrared signatures. The closer to body heat (37 degs.) The more likely for false alarms, so in Thailand you really need digital pir's. There are many such suppliers in Thailand.

Re joshstyles query we drilled and hit water at 50 metres surprisingly. We are using a size 4 pump to pump the water. Hope this 1nfo helps.

I think I will only stay at the family home when they need help to cut sugar tree. Not the 3 or 4 months at a time I was contemplating - too boring

I am also 70 years of age and recently finished rebuilding the family home about 100 kms north of Korat. It now has 4 bedrooms, one of which is reserved for my Thai wife and myself. We normally live in a condo in Bangkok, but I have just completed one week at the family house. I was bored to tears, with chickens and ducks making the most noise. There was nothing in the village of interest.
Fortunately my wife was present so I could converse in English with her but otherwise no conversation with my Thai relatives.
I would seriously consider whether you are doing the right thing.

Is the Bangkok Bank branch next to Immigration still accessible?

My in laws are having a well drilled tomorrow. Cost for 100 metres is 9900 baht but if no water forthcoming there is a payment of only 2000 baht. Last year they drilled 60 metres and not much water but this this

I use Windows 8.1 and chrome all the time to log in with no problems. If you have a smartphone why not use the Bangkok Bank for Android, etc - works like a dream.

Thank you for the suggestion but I won't be following it. I have nobody other than my wife and her family. I am pleased to provide for the extended family when I can. Also when I die my wife will get 50% of my occupational pensions for the rest of her life.

Thailiketoo is quite right. I am 70 and my Thai wife is 30. We are great together. We have a condo in bkk and just rebuilt the family house in Korat and fully furnished it. The family think the sun shines from my ar--e.

This may not be helpful, but I have just finished a complete rebuild of a house in a village north of Korat. It now has 4 bedrooms, a european style toilet with water heater type shower. A combination of wooden shutters and plastic windows / sliding door - floor tiling and wall tiling in toilet / shower room.
I used local and specialist labour and the all in cost, inclusive of new appliances (fridge, washing machine, etc) was one million baht.

Re MMarlow's question, in the Uk you can declare yourself bankrupt so long as you pay a fee of £600

I agree with Costas2008 - I am 71 and my Thai wife is 30. The age gap does not bother us and we are oblivious to what others think. My wife's parents just want their daughter to be happy and are the best 'in-laws' you could have.

I would certainly use the bus to Ekkmai and then BTS to Ploen chit. When your business is finished there are always plenty of buses returning to Pattaya.

The original question, what are the implications for the bankruptee when made bankrupt, has not been answered. In Thailand is it like the UK, in some cases, when the bankrupt can be discharged after 12 months or does that not apply here.

I recently purchased a Notebook through ITCity and there 'After Sales Service' is first class.

I don't know about the GSB but I transfer online to my Fixed Savings Account with Bangkok Bank; also the TMB.

Once you have the marriage certificates, the British Embassy has an Information leaflet that sets out in letter form a request that they forward one original set of the marriage certificate and translation to the General Register Office in the UK. You have to provide two addresses for a reply - I did one in uk and the other in Thailand. The Embassy charge a small fee for this service.
This process takes about 4 months but once completed you can obtain copies (for a fee of £9 odd) should you require them for example Pension providers, etc.
