This reasoning would seem to apply (or could be applicable) for people on a retirement extension using 800k and who plan to switch to the income method for their next extension.
Some posters have opined that you could pull the 800 k out of the bank or at least let your balance fall below 400 k since you won't need it for your next extension.
The problem is that the 800 k for three months and 400 k for the rest of the year are conditions set for the extension you currently have using the money in the bank method.
Regardless of what you plan to do for your next extension , if your bank balance falls below the minimum for your current extension, the current extension would be cancelled and you would have put yourself on overstay

Can't agree with your interpretation of the FDA comment either. Basically Purell has no evidence that alcohol based sanitizers "remove " viruses as you claim. They were marketing the hand sanitizer based on some nebulous marketing tactic that depended on something meaningless like mainstream medical advice.
If you have links to research proof of the effectiveness of alcohol used against the spread of viral disease please share. It would be good news for us all and would make overpriced hand wipes a bargain.

While I agree that washing hands with soap and water is useful, as noted above, the US FDA has ordered Purell to stop making claims about its hand sanitizer regarding any virus.

Once you have changed to a marriage visa returning to the business visa starts the process all over again. It is as difficult as it was the first time.
An extension of stay ends the day the reason for it ends. An extension based on marriage ends when the marriage ends. .An extension based on employment ends when employment ends. A permission to stay granted on a visa entry does not end for those reasons.
Once again the distinction between a visa and an extension of stay is not simply nitpicking. There are differences which can be significant.

You might want to read Article 16 of the UN Declaration of Rights to which Thailand is a signatory and review the Thai Constitution.
A bit overboard and an hysterical reaction to something that can be easily resolved by using an extension of stay.
The O/P said he didn't feel like getting an annual extension. I doubt that getting an extension of stay, which is used by most farang with Thai spouses, is so onerous that it will merit a special session of the UN for human rights violation.
The choice to do multi entry visas for years is his. He may feel inconvenienced if he did extensions of stay, but it doesn't oblige anyone to sell houses or to deny children an education or any of the nonsense you mentioned.

I'm sure there's a burning interest in the international media for stories about expats staying in Thailand for years on multi entry visas and who do border bounces every 90 days.
Even if it raised any interest, the obvious solution would be to stop multi entry visas being issued altogether in neighboring countries or just deny repeated entry to people who appear to be gaming the system.
Corruption exists everywhere in the world and wide-eyed revelations of its existence generally dont have a positive effect. If anything it results in more punitive treatment in the form of collective punishment for people who benefit from rule bending.

So most of the chronic whiners claim "they" don't love us and only want our money. Now that that is wearing thin, it's "they" don't want our money because "they" hate us.
I ( and most expats) pay the usual assortment of bills each month. No problem. Hardly an achievement worth bragging about.
One time I went into a Krung Thai bank that wanted my passport first. I just said "no thanks." No hand wringing or uncontrollable sobbing or temper tantrums because of loss of face. Like everywhere else in the world, some people might not love me, a few people may love me and 99.9% don't really care either way. I don't think trivial annoyances amount to a conspiracy.
Seriously, if you feel defeated by the simple task of paying your bills, maybe independent living is not the best option for you. Marry someone who will look after you.

Not sure how you concluded that from what he said in that quote.
At various times I've used the 800 k in the bank method and then went with the embassy letter income method (when it was still available to me) and last year I sold my condo and used that money to cover the 800 k method for my most recent renewal. Never been asked where the money came from.

It seems that the quoted material makes it clear they're talking about households. I assume they are comparing apples to apples in their assessment.
But the exact amounts weren't really I was drawing attention to. The point is that people currently are woefully unprepared for retirement now and that is unlikely to improve with future generations, but there will probably be a sizable number of retirees who will be sufficiently well prepared to retire in Thailand or elsewhere.
I expect middle class retirement in future will be more restrictive than is currently is in terms of the need to work longer (if possible) and thus retire at a later age and with less "cushy" retirement packages than is common now. My pension, for example, includes medical insurance for life but that is no longer on offer by my former employer to current employees. And starting retirement at 62 as I was able to do is a different matter from starting at 68 or 70 if you're thinking of moving halfway round the world at that age,
Nonetheless, even now when a number of retirees may still be able to afford retirement in Thailand, they are somewhat exceptional among their age peers.
So it seems to me the initial thesis that we are the last generation to stay in Thailand in retirement appears unlikely. Those here now are members of a generation that is collectively not all that well prepared financially for retirement and, on the other hand, future generations will still have a decent number of people who could easily afford to live here.

As western retirement/pension ages are increased and liberal work related pensions become less generous and/or pensions generally are under funded, the whole middle income notion of retirement will change. But there Will undoubtedly still be a large pool of people with sufficient retirement income/savings to retire in Thailand if they want to.
The current generation is certainly not universally able to achieve a comfortable retirement and many of those on the brink of retirement have notably very little saved.

He appears to be asking about the O-A vise, not an extension of stay. Not sure how you get Thai based insurance in your home country, which is where you'd get the visa.
