  1. It could also be that you were queued to see a English speaking vet who was late to arrive at the office that day... Been there a few times with my Thai partner and was asked if I wanted English speaking person... I always ask for English speaker as our cat only understands Thai spoken with an English accent...

btw we know live in the Mae Hai/Hang Dong area and know a great Vet who speaks general English

I am Mae Hia near Big C. What is vets name please.

So you just sat there for 2 hrs and did not bother to say

something ?, I was at a Government hospital last week,

and they started to see patients  that had arrived after

me,but I quickly got up and let them know I was there

and needed seeing,it was no problem, but if i had not

mentioned it to the nurses,i could too have waited hours.

    regards Worgeordie

I was sitting right in front of reception and they looked at me many times. Sometimes people working in these type of places need to know their jobs.

  3. I have used this vets a few times before and usually have a wait but I don't mind waiting my turn.

Today I took my dog in at 8.30am. There were 2 people ahead of me. People slowly arrived and first customer not taken in until about 9. Anyhow after 2 hours waiting and 15 people went in before me I left and now looking for new vets.

    Anyone else have similar issues?

Why would you want to call for a Grab when the airport taxis are there in profusion and very reasonably priced? I live near Hangdong, a distance of about 12 Kilometres, and the price is usually 300! Jeez. How much cheaper do you want it? Much less of course to downtown destinations.

Really? Recently took Grab to airport from home about 120 Baht. When I came back i was looking at phone to book Grab when lady taxi driver came past with a customer and asked where I was going. Told her. She wanted 400 baht. I said too much. SO she said 300.  As I had just gotten off an all night flight and was hot so I took it. Her other customer had further to go and I heard her tell him 200.

I am happy to pay reasonable but to be asked for 400 when Grab charged 120.......not reasonable.

why is poor insulation a factor for inverter ac's and not regular ac's? regular ac stops cooling (clunk) and starts again when temp rises. inverter motor can slow greatly without needing to stop and turn on again. ??

Nothing. Poor insulation will make them both work harder.

apparently a new Thai manufacturer. I'd say they are a very new company just starting out with all the risks it means for you. can't say anything about quality, but you can figure the odds yourself.

My first split AC in Australia was a Fujitsu General. The installer said it was a new brand and did not know what it was like. Well I changed it out for an inverter model after 19 years of use and I put it in my workshop and was still going a several years later when I moved to Thailand. So you just really don't know.

Do you have any data to support this? I originally bought 5 a/c units with inverters at a significant extra cost over ordinary models. I have since bought a fourth 5 non inverter models.....I must say that my electricity bill has not risen at all with the new units.

Inverter units are more expensive than standard units because of the heaps of electronics in them. This also means that if they fail they can be very expensive to repair. In Australia it was often just as cheap to replace the whole unit. I could imagine the same here. Inverter units, again because of the electronics are more prone to damage by power surges and vermin such as geckos, mice etc. In a non inverter unit the compressor cuts in and out to control the temperature whereas an inverter unit the compressor is running a lot more at varying speeds to control temperature within a narrow range. Again, due to electronics they are susceptible to heat and if the out door unit is mounted in direct sun they are "smart enough" to derate themselves when the electronics get too hot and thus don't deliver the rated output. If you buy a unit that is just big enough for the room then it runs at full power most of the time and any savings are lost. Having said all that I did have one in my bedroom in Australia as I worked shift work and it was much better at controlling a constant temp and usually quieter,

  8. I had to travel to Bangkok from Chiang Mai return to have a DNA test for my sons Citizenship (Australian). We turned up at the Air Asia checkin and I handed my passport, baby's original birth certificate and mum's ID and letter from her consulate as she is from Myanmar and only has Pink Non Thai ID and restricted to Chiang Mai. They processed mine and gave me boarding pass, processed my sons with birth certificate only and gave boarding pass then refused hid mum as letter did not mention Bangkok. Lost money of flights, airport transfers and hotel, but that is another story.

So in short he was ok with birth certificate only with Air Asia.

First example from a Google search:

Australia Post mailman Mark Baguio 'too lazy' to deliver almost 10,000 items

"Australia Post was advised that a yellow mail delivery bag containing 755 unaddressed articles had been dumped in a rubbish bin in a West Sunshine street outside Baguio's flat. [] and a search by investigators found a much larger amount of mail in his bedroom and on the floor of his flat."

Didn't say it didnt happen, just gave my experience.

Please give me the name of a country where this never happen...

58 years in Australia and rarely had mail go missing. Had a lot go missing here in Thailand and as recent as this month.

Sent to calendars from Australia to a friend in Canada one year. Some postal worker obviously liked one and took it but did send the other on. Both were in same package.

Hate to be a party pooper but a lot of stuff in Australia is actually cheaper than Thailand, eg I couldnt believe the price of fruit in the supermarket,i thought 20 baht price was per kilo,no it was per piece !

kilo of tomatoes , apples etc are  cheaper in Australia , cans of tuna etc cheaper.

Medical care is free in OZ to a certain point

,seeing a GP most are free, ,emergency services hospital treatment is free, publc hospital care is free

ambulance is free to pensioners unemployed,

pensioners receive all day transport passes, etc ,

The thing which hurts most old  Aussie expats in Thailand is that health insurance they have to take out when in Australia they would get medical care free

Admittedly when I was back there I did not buy groceries so can't comment on the prices.

Yes you are right about the medical but, on the other hand, I can get into a specialist here (in Chiang Mai) without having to goto a GP and getting a referral and most times only cost 500B. I find medicines to be very expensive here.

Now I have been here over 5 years I have been "kicked out" or Medicare and have to re-apply when I go back and have to prove I have left Thailand and back in Australia permanently.

I am not a pensioner yet so those benefits are not available to me. I still have 3 1/2 years to go to be eligible and will be returning to Australia before that time.

So at the present time a lot things that I need are cheaper here. House rent, water, electricity, car rego, eating out.
