There are tons of Thai people there almost everyday. It's not something unusual.
Sadly, the accident rate is still high.
This is the most I have ever seen there.

No it was not free. 360 baht for the certificate I believe...maybe 500 (I wasn't really paying attention), 100 baht for 2 photos, 100 baht for medical certificate. The certificate fee is (or used to be) free if you were willing to wait a week or so to get it. I don't think you have an option for it being free at ChonBuri. Well worth paying for it at ChonBuri because you get it one hour later. I think most other provincial offices make you come back the next day for it.
For anyone doing the Cert Res for Drivers license, the fees for drivers license (converting from home-country / IDP) was 205 baht total.
In Chiang Mai the Certificate itself is free but I had to wait 3 weeks for it. Apparently if I paid 500 I could get it next day.

When I enquired yesterday at the Land Transport Office, Pattaya about the docs. needed to renew a Thai 5 year licence, they specifically told me a medical certificate is not required - although it may have been in the past!
I did mine in Chiang Mai today and no medical required.

Rolled up to DLT at 09:30 this morning to renew bike and car drivers licenses. Went to checking counter where she checked my paperwork and said goto counter 27. At counter 27 she asked for existing licenses, attached each with a form in Thai to my existing paperwork and said come back tomorrow 08:00 as I was too late today.
Heaps of people there both up and downstairs.
Will update with experience tomorrow.

I have used Chiang Mai Ram many times and found them to be good. Medicine prices high but doctors prices reasonable and you can generally get into see a specialist fast. Had a couple small ops and the doctor was excellent and prices reasonable. Unfortunately that doctor has left.

Have you noticed how one is not supposed to post any racist comments on this board, yet it is ok for Thai hospitals to be racist.
+20%,.... double charging is the norm for Farangs.
If I had it done it would have been an extra 50%.

Is it quite normal that all foreigners in all countries pay more than the citizens.
Never seen it happen in Australia. Not saying it doesn't happen just never seen it.

You can't expect poor countries like Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia to pay the same rate as western countries, do you?
Their currencies are weak and their salaries are pittance.
So it is understandable that they pay less than farangs.
So why should they pay more than Thais?

since you are complaining about a scumbag/bad practice hospital don't you think it would be better to name it thus in future no one will get that "special" treatment/price. In my humble opinion if not wanting to name them why complain than

Firstly I would like to say that this is not about the Bangkok Hospital but a popular cosmetic surgery hospital in Bangkok.
I know there is dual pricing and farangs often pay more for things but this is about different levels of charging and very blatant.
Before the story just a little about my girlfriends IDs. She is from Myanmar and has been in Thailand some time and had basically lost all of her limited IDs. A few years ago I helped her get her pink Non-Thai ID which lists her as from Myanmar. A little while later she obtained her Thai motor bike license using the pink ID as the primary ID for her license. Apparently on that is lists her as Thai Yai.
Ok, we decided to drive from Chiang May to Pattaya for a holiday. She had been wanting to do a cosmetic eye procedure for some time. She had been looking at videos on Youtube on the procedure and about the hospital. She asked me could she get it done so I said for her to contact them. So we decided to goto the hospital on the way to Pattaya and talk to the doctor. On arriving she showed her Thai driving license. She got to see doctor, she was given a quote and an appointment made for a day on our return trip from Pattaya.
On procedure day we arrived and on booking in she gave her pink ID. I saw her too late or I would have said use license the same as before. After sitting awhile a lady came and talked to her in Thai then left. I noticed she was holding the pink ID and a copy of my gf license from first visit. I asked my gf what was that about. She said license showed Thai Yai where pink ID showed Myanmar and why didn't she tell them first time. I said what's the difference. Then we were called to a desk with 2 ladies. We were advised it would cost 20% more because she was from Myanmar. I kept asking why as they are still the same eyes. An older lady was called to the desk, I assumed a supervisor. She spoke a little english but talking was mostly in Thai. She did make a comment to me that my gf had to pay more, like us farang, as she was not Thai. She told my gf it was 50% extra for farang. My gf asked me what I though and I said it was wrong and I wasn't going to pay. She told them to give her deposit back and she would get it done here in CM. They relented and did the procedure for the original quoted price even though one of the ladies kept insisting she pay the extra.
Personally I did not want to use that hospital at all after that but my gf had her heart set on the procedure and it would have been a fairly icy trip back to CM.

indeed
the flux of money seems to work only in a one way here
the landlord try always to charge you with something and do not give the deposit back or a part of it.
The best thing IMHO is aceept only 1 month deposit and do not pay the last month of rental
so when you give them the key back the last day of the last month they can try to rip off you
but at least you are free to agree or not.
My ex gf was asked to leave her last room due to ID issues. So she found a new room and we moved everything and cleaned up. Asked for her deposit back. Received a small percentage back and no reason given as to why not all. My ex did not want to make an issue due to her ID problem. So we went and got last few things from room and left. Oh, BTW, I have a feeling the landlord had to regass the AC in that room.

Much better going after a split cassette units than central if you want to spend some money. Ideally, make sure that the controls are networked so that common control logic can be used.
Logic doesn't work in Thailand.

There is no need to wait.
You can renew your current Thai driving licence at any land transport office as long as you have residence certificate, med report ( nothing more than 30days old) , original documents and photocopies. Most Land transport office people speak English better than i do. ChiagMai, and Lamphun office people speak German too.
Why is it a BS post when the OP is just posting their experience of the event?

Contact your local amphur (sp?) in person for their local requirements. Bring a Thai to translate for you if you're not fluent in Thai.
Think I will stick with residency certificate once every 5 years.

Perhaps it requires the requestor indicating there is urgency in the matter and 3 weeks is too long.
Yes stupid on my part to think maybe they are cleaning up corruption.

Best Friends visa agent (the old G4T) will do it for you for 1000bt. Just show up with your passport to their office near super hiway BigC; they'll take the photo and do the paperwork, then deliver to Imm. Two day turnaround, as they said paperwork ready next day, but usually after 5 O'Clock, or later. Beats the drive to and runaround at Imm, including looking for parking (unless, of course, you live closer to Imm vice Best Friends).
If you're a Yank, same day service at the Consulate will get you the affidavit that serves as a C of R. $50, but same day is nice. Went this route for driving license this past June.
I am going for my retirement extension next week and I use an agent. Maybe I should have waited and had them do it at the same time.

Again this swamp of a Immigration office. It is sad that Chiang Mai time after time after time, is shaming Thailand as a nation, with their behavior. 3 freaking weeks for a peace of paper, that takes them about 5 minutes to do......
Personally I would never in my lifetime sat foot there, or live there in Chiang Mai, it is completely destroyed by th worst of the worst thai people, that have ever worked within the Immigration-organisation......
OR, may I ask, is the quality of the immigration-people a mirror of what kind of falangs live in Chiang Mai??????
glegolo
You must be one of the elite farang that live in Thailand. OR at least you think you are.

Thank you for posting this. I'll be needing one soon too.
I wonder just what exactly do they do for 3 weeks.Investigate the validity of the work permit or lease and verify the living location of the applicant?
No, because for 1,000 baht you can have it next day.
Actually I was not offered the fast version today.
-
Just my experience.
Haven't needed one in awhile but need to renew my driver's license so needed to get one. Not sure what I needed so did some Google searching and found a few websites. Each site seemed to list some requirements different which is understandable with the different Immigration offices. I found one site that actually had the downloadable form. So I downloaded, filled in and printed it. Took all the copies of what I thought I needed. Rolled up to the ticket issuing desk at 12:30 pm and was quiet. Told to goto counter 4 which I did. Asked to see my passport. I handed the pre-filled in form. No no different. Was handed the CM required form and told only 8 to 10 am service, come back tomorrow. So today I went in and the queue was out the door so I just went straight to counter 4. Told to goto second floor. Went up there and young lady sitting alone took my paperwork and said come back in 3 weeks on October 1st. No charge just long waiting.
So what is required by CM Immigration:-
Copy of photo page in passport.
Copy of original visa in passport.
Copy of current extension stamp.
Copy of latest entry into Thailand stamp.
Copy of current TM30 (was actually number 1 on the list).
Copy of work permit or yellow book or rental contract.
As a side note I left immigration and there is a pedestrian crossing out front. There is 2 lanes traffic, median strip then another 2 lanes traffic in opposite direction. Very busy road. There were about a dozen people waiting to cross. A car in the left lane pulled up and the crowd started to cross. But the first car in the right lane was obviously in high speed pursuit to gain lost time. Well there was a screech of tyres, smoke and the smell of burning rubber. I think I also detected some suddenly released body odours from the front line of the pedestrians. Anyhow thank fully the car's brakes did not fail and he stopped an no injuries.

Just had my Pink ID card checked. It does not restrict the holder to any distance from place of residence. It does say however, Only valid in Thailand.
My ex gf (burma) has a pink ID and it restricts her to Chiang Mai. She obtained her motor bike drivers license from the pink ID. Awhile ago we wanted to fly with Air Asia and I told her to just use her DL as ID not pink one. Sales staff look at DL and said she needed letter of permission to fly (i.e. to leave CM) so it obviously has something on DL too. Never bothered asking.
Renewing Drivers Licenses in Chiang Mai.

Ok, I went back 7.30 this morning and heaps people already even though counters don't open until 8.00. As I was waiting security guard who was organising people calling out in Thai but I recognised "passport". Oh heck, forgot mine. Luckily I live close so shot home and got it and back by 7.55. By then they were allowing people upstairs. Queue went from counter 27 right back to the other end of the building did a loop and down the stairs. I joined the queue halfway up the stairs. Finally reached counter 27 and given my coloured card. Waited awhile and my colour was called to go in for colour test. Then into room 3 to watch the video for about 45 mins. After that back to the info counter for a queue number. about 40 mins my number called to go pay, then into photo/license issue area. Another 15 minutes and I was called and licenses issued. I was out by 11.00. So not too bad.
I am on retirement visa extension so my documents needed were:-
Residency Certificate. (I was renewing car and bike licenses so needed 2 but just did a colour photocopy of the original and was accepted.)
Copies of existing licenses back and front.
Copy of passport photo page and current visa extension stamp.
No medical required.
All up with change of address on both was 860baht.
