  1. Climate is great, But the Greeks have killed it for themselves by being just too greedy, bear in mind they are only 1 generation from being peasant farmers, that is not meant derogatory at all, its just new money and they are greedy. Everything is way overpriced, Mainly a Brit retirement place with huge expat communities, but as i said, Very Expensive !!!! Paphos area nice, but over developed, i remember it in the early 80's, Great !!! Now you cannot see the sea for the Hotels lined up all the way from paphos to Coral Bay.

I own a House just outside Paphos but at this time it remains locked up and sat there, as its not somewhere i want to be anymore.

  2. Anyone tried this method on their Dtracker/klx ? Work ok or not ?

    Cheers for any info

1100 km done now on this simple wiring trick, no temperature increase in the ECU or rectitfier. No glitches, just ability to hit redline in the first five gears. I don't ride full out very much, happily keeping it under 6000 rpm at most times but highway travel.

Thanks !! :) Out with the wire cutters later today :D

  3. For 2,000 Baht I would be very interested to know what this guy could do... Anything I can think of what brings more power to the engine costs more then 2,000 Baht

    132 km/h for FREE

    1. Disconnect ECU from the rubber base (A)

    2. Locate the light green wire (:)

    3. Cut the light green wire close to ECU

    4. Add a piece of wire to the light green wire (that you just have cut) to the side that comes out of the ECU (E) long enough to reach (F)

    5. Disconnect (F)

    6. Connect the wire you added in parallel to the black/red wire (G)

    7. Connect again (F)

    Ready

Anyone tried this method on their Dtracker/klx ? Work ok or not ?

    Cheers for any info

  4. That would be me at a guess :) I had all the doors and windows replaced with WR Profiles and am still very pleased with the service and quality of fitting, The price was good too !! A decent guy running the business and they do a great Job, have no problem recommending them at all !!

    Cheers

There was a thread here or on the Pattaya forum about a year ago or less that covered a person using WR windows. As I recall he replace all his doors and windows with WR products and he was very happy.

I tried a "search" here but I can't locate the thread.

I myself had a price quote from WR and sat with the rep for more than an hour learning what he could provide. As with the other vendors of Upvc windows and doors it all depends on the profiles you choose and what you're budget will allow. They all seem to sell a quality product. The service you get from each will vary and this is where these different vendors are different. A machine will make a window profile, the particular company will build the frames with a machine to the size requirements but the installer is the one you meet and interact with. The sales/service rep is the one you deal with during all phases of the sale and install. This is the one you have to have the "warm and fuzzies" with. Go with the shop that make you feel comfortable and fits your budget.

All the dealers sell a decent product as far as I can tell. I think each outfit; EURO, WR, ARC, Windsor and at least 3 others all have a decent product. You just have to be careful in what profiles you choose. Talk with each rep and learn. They are all willing to impart their knowledge to the prospective client even if they choose the competitor's profiles

  5. Would be interested in any Recent experiences with this as well, as want to ship some stuff from UK here.

    Variation on old thread--Shipping

I need to spend time in Spain for family stuff. I can fly Bus Class so that will allow for about two large suitcases and hand luggage (sound right?).

It looks like I will have clothes/books/small items enough for ANOTHER two large cases or two teachests. I cannot reduce more. I will not take furniture, TV etc.

Unlike some posters, I don't need half a container.

Should I try for excess baggage with the airline? Thai EMS? A shipper? It will be door to door. DHL want about 11,000b for one 20kg box (I will need about five), but EMS is not much cheaper.

    Are there any customs procedures?

    All experiences/comments gratefully received.

    P Ed

  6. YOU GET 30 DAYS ON ARRIVAL - FREE. (thru the airport that is, not land border crossing).

Most holidaying tourists are here for only 2 or 3 weeks usually (maybe 4) as they have to get back to work, so dont need to buy a visa in any case.

so will this make a difference to tourist arrivals?? NO!!

everyones skint, no money for holidays. half price airfares may do the trick, but even then many people are saving money as uncirtain times ahead.

IMHO hull is the best consulate by far, im sure they will be ok as their service is second to none.

see their website, so much info to download about thailand and all the forms you need for any visa.

    fantastic.

then see liverpool/cardiff/birmingham/glasgow/londons websites - hardly any info at all, no info about how to apply for visas, no forms - so less business for them.

maybe they should/will have to take a leaf out of hulls book, good. otherwise TSB i say... (thats; Tough Sh!t Baby) LOL :)

Hull may have more info on the site but you can't say that they are the best and most helpful consulate, I was dealing with Birmingham for years before I knew how to turn a PC on, it's just a matter of a TWO Minute phone call and you can get all you need by POST making it a lot cheaper than applying in person, it takes only THREE days to get the visa.

Maybe it was wrong to state that Hull was the best, but that is his opinion, and out of interest Hull also do everything by POST too !! Just another string to their bow. :D

  7. RED/BLACK PLATINUM PX 175 1 MONTH OLD FOR SALE

1 Month old Platinum PX 175 Enduro motorbike for Sale, Completely as new with only 160 Km on the clock. Cost 55,000 Baht will sell for 40,000.

Now I know lots of guys will slag this Bike to bits, No Worries, but it is what it is, a cheap Enduro at a fraction of the price of a mainstream Honda Kawasaki etc. It rides well and is of a better standard than the earlier platinum’s, at 40,000 Baht its good Value.

Only 1 Month old still exactly as new with 3 Yr guarantee, Still waiting for book maybe a chance to change name before its issued ?

Reason for sale so quickly? Just decided that I really do not want to have a bike anymore. Live just out of town, and the very few times I have ridden this into Pattaya, it copes with all the potholes great, much easier than a small bike.

Don’t want to get into debates about Platinum, just sell the bike at a loss for a realistic Price.

  8. Still not sorted, went to Dealer could not get booked in, Made appointment for this afternoon, will report back

The Technician said that he reset the ECU, So my attempt at resetting by disconnecting did no good :D Working fine now :D Steady 160/170/+ and all good :D Only for Testing purposes though :)

  9. Reset ecu same problem, just got back from bangkok again same cut out at 160, same engine warning light, same result, stop car turn off and then start again and its fine, i am thinking its not a fuel supply problem as if i put in manual third gear and rev its nuts off at 140 all is ok, change into auto and top, up to 160 and cuts out :) So off to Toyota in the morning, Thanks for all the suggestions

It's just some sensor, that died, I tell you. I assume you have the petrol version instead of the diesel?

If petrol it can be 3 things: Ingition, Fuel supply, EMS sensors. For the diesel, mostly fuel supply.

Diesel, anyway will see what they say at Toyota tomorrow

  11. Your probem is engine management, the ecu needs re setting, only the toyota dealer can do it,.even if out of warranty ill bet they dont charge for it,.

Its been suggested that i reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for a while, so will try that before Toyota, Fuel is clean, filter is fine, not checked pump, but will try this reset then off to Toyota i go, its just painful to visit and wait for so long and struggle to describe the problem, limp home mode about sums it up too !

    Thanks all

  12. Had a similar problem with my old Mercedes. Was just a dirty fuel filter. Changed it and runs fine now.

Surely that would not bring the engine management light on though, all good until very near top end, seems like something electronic to me ? as it resets and is fine after a restart. Will obviously check it though, Thanks

  13. These last 2 days on Trips to Bangkok in my 1 year old Fortuner Smart the engine just about died, The engine warning light came on (The transmission shaped thingy) and 80% of the Power just disappeared ? It would not rev past maybe 2000 Rpm, just flat as a fart. I pulled over on the Hard shoulder and decided to switch the engine off and wait a few minutes, after re starting it ran fine, until i hit about 160 Kph again, then exactly the same thing happened ? I tried many other ways to see if it would happen again, it does every time i push it hard and am travelling around 160 ish, anything 140 and below seems fine ? Anyone else ever had this happen ? any thoughts beofre i take it to Toyota ?

  14. Pretty much everything said above is wise :o

Do a controlled test with constant load (unplug the fridge or open all the breakers except the one with your test load on it), 1000W for 1 hour should use 1 unit, easy. The longer you test for the better the result, if you have 500 or 1000W of lamps then that would be a good start.

For a quick check, you can time the rotation of the disc in the meter over say 5 or 10 revolutions. There should be a label saying how many revs per kWh. From this you can work out the load the meter thinks is attached and compare it with the load you know is attached.

Even a severe load imbalance should not significantly affect the accuracy of your meter, however, a serious voltage difference between the phases may.

Hi Guys, Well i got back from work and did yet another test last night, 15 20 Watt lights on for 4 hours, everything else isolated at the consumer unit. Just over 1.1 Kw/Hr used, so Meter apparently is reading fine !! So with that test everything was isolated through the consumer unit, so now need to do a few more tests isolating in the same way, but meter apparently fine. Am just going to have to work my way round the house room by room isolating properly and see what i find, its confusing this :D

  15. Mitsubishi, Hitachi are goood units, but the best = Grundfos.

Pressure in the plastic lines / connections could be a problem if the pump is allowed to develop full pressure- see an earlier post I did on the Grundfos MQ3 45. You should limit the discharge pressure to ensure no problem - there is no need to develop such high pressure.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Water-Pump-Filter-t243668.html

Have to agree, Grundfos, Pricy to buy, but well worth it, Never had any problems, same normal blue pipe, have small valves on the Toilet hose's just to crank down the flow !!! But Grundfos #1 Pressure is great, Quiet, efficient, and no troubles .. Just my 2 Cents

  16. i agree with tjo about a possible load imbalance^^^^good thought on his part. Also you mentioned that you had a high powered shower heater?

Do you know if the heater and aircon units are 3 phase or single phase?

Where's Crossy when we need a real knowledgeable answer?

As tjo said an clamp on amp meter would be nice here to see what loads you are running on the phases.

I will have to get an electrician to check Balance then, as i really have no idea :D I have to fly away on Business in the morning for a few weeks, so it will have to wait, i have no answer or clue about the Aircon, but i can ask the Installer/supplier no problem, everything is only a few months old 3 at the most, including Fridge Freezer. I dont hear the motor coming on in the fridge unless i open the door.

The High Powered shower heater is only on when shower used, and actually i have changed this to only using 1 of the two elements as was just too Hot! Not sure i understand the load balancing ? Sorry :o But all i know is something just has to be wrong somewhere, its not the cost, it is just that i had the same (99%) in last place and useage nothing like here, i just want to get to the bottom of it and sort it out, if everything turned out to be ok then so be it, i just dont understand how it can be ? So can someone explain the load balancing on the 3 phases easily for me ?

  17. Do another test tomorrow with just the 4 Bulbs on. make sure nothing else is on, physically check around the house.

If the tests the same go and speak to your local lecky office and give them the evidence.

I recently had to pay back on what they suspected was a slow running meter. We came to a compromise but I did have to pay something so this should work in reverse. They owe you a load of beer tokens. Enjoy them :o

I will isolate everything at the consumer unit apart from 4 Lights and see, Cheers

  18. Can you tell us what wattage the lightbulbs are . probably says the wattage on the cap. ?

1 unit over 4.5 hours means the bulbs are using about 55 watts each. Its possible but my outside lights use about 18watts.

The fridges and freezers are not so easy to work with as I believe the power draw is variable.

Just checked my bag of spare Bulbs, and the biggest i have is 20Watt long life Bulbs so they cannot be any more than that, so really means my meter is way over reading ? or something else is drawing off ? I guess i must do same again but isolate everything through consumer unit ? But we were not in obviously and nothing was left switched on except for what i said

    Cheers

  19. Definitely start by switching everything off at the panel,,,,,,,,,,just switch off the main breaker and then go look at the meter and see if it's moving. If so they have wired in another load between the meter and your panel. If you can and have some knowledge of wiring maybe trace(follow) the cables from the meter that head towards your panel and maybe you can see if any connections are made that go off in another direction.

As said if the meter does not turn when you have things switched off then go back in to the breakers and turn all of them off and switch only the main breaker "on" and again see if the meter spins. It should not.

As stated above then if things seem normal you can switch on only one or two breakers that power up known loads and you can monitor the meter for a given period of time to check if it registers close to the use of the load you have operating. You will need to know the power usage of those appliances or whatever that are in operation. The numbers on the meter are kilowatt hours of use.

Ok Step 1, Turned off electric at Consumer Unit, All good no problems or usage so nothing is connected in there that should not be there :o

Step 2, Went out for the night and left Fridge Feezer on as Normal 1 Large Fridge Freezer and 1 Medium Chest feezer, 4 Low wattage Type Bulbs outside = 4 Hours 45 Minutes and the House used exactly 2 Units (Kw/Hr ?) seems alot, as in 24 Hours this would equate to 10.1 Units Therefore 300 Per Month without doing anything !!!

Step 3, Went out again exactly as before but unplugged the Fridge Freezer and the Chest Freezer, same 4 Lights on as before = 4 Hours 30 Minutes and House used exactly 1 Unit which equates to 5.33 in 24 Hours Therefore 160 per Month

So Therefore Fridge Freezer etc using 140 Units a month is that about right ? Would this make you think that the Meter is definately over reading ? As the only option i can see is Buying a New Meter to check ?

    What to do now ?
