  1. I find it really funny how quickly these forum threads turn in to a tennis match, almost as good as Sunday's mens final at Wimbledon.

On the note of the actual OP, I believe that all trademarked logo's and the relevant companies involved, are allowed to sue whoever uses their logo without the strict permission of the owner.

Now, back to reality. TIT whistling.gif

  2. There was a snippet on Channel 3 TV, within the last 30 mins, with the attacker in custody. I asked my missus what he said, her reply was that the cabbie stated "the passenger did not pay the fare. Nothing about how, or why he had not paid the fare, or that there was a dispute or anything about what actually happened inside the taxi. So, how are the Thai media actually reporting this?

I feel sorry for the family, and the way Mr. Pilkington has lost his life, I just wonder though how this is going to be dealt with by the authorities.

  3. I would like to know why a taxi driver, does not matter where in the world, is driving around with a Samurai sword in his cab for one.

Also, why would the taxi driver then grab it and attack an individual with it, after he has left the vehicle, let alone kill him. The taxi driver has caused a death, it does not matter what culture you look at it from, it is premeditated. As he had already had the sword in the car, with the intend to use it in defence or not, then followed the individual and hacked him to death.

I did a stint as a cabbie [2 years] back in my home country. I always had a Maglite torch (3 AA battery) down the side of the seat for protection. If someone went to grab you in the taxi from behind, all you had to do was grab and swing it and it would have contacted with their head and then they would have let go. But to then get out and beat the individual to death is a whole different matter.

  4. @Fletch.

I used to work for HSBC Premier UK, at the Canford Cliffs branch in Poole.

All HSBC Premier customers/clients were able to open an account in any country they spend time in, providing they met the criteria of their relevant home country. They were also allowed to transfer up to 10k GBP -- or the relevant country's daily max - - per day at no fee charged, the transfer would be in their account the following business day.

When this branch was originally opened it caused a bit of controversy in the U.K. and internationally, back in 2008. The following year due to the new strategy of HSBC and wealth management, they sold all their freehold properties to a subsidiary of HSBC holdings to raise capitol etc..

Another thing with the Premier account was/is, that if you are on holiday somewhere and had lost your wallet you could go into the local HSBC branch and request a new card. This would be sent out the following day to that branch, they would also advance you up to 2k GBP on the spot with presentation of a passport or a phone call to your relationship manager back home for confirmation of who you are. They do have a database linked to all HSBC branches worldwide for their Premier account holders, providing you can confirm you account details etc.

As for coming back to Thailand, I do not see it happening the same as you, due to the strategy they now believe in and also the way the Thai banking system works in the favour of Thai banks.

  5. @MeowBundit, this is true I think only if you are on a Non-O standard type. If you are on a Non-Ed you need to actually report in person for the 1st report. However, the school you are registered at can usually do any subsequent 90 day reports for you, for a fee, after your initial 90 day report.

Also, with the 90 day report by post you will need to factor in the "15 days" prior to your actual date and any Thai national holidays.

  6. For an Ed visa of one year, which I have, you need to have 180 hours of study, this equates to you having to study a minimum of 4 hours in a week. Even on this, you only get a 3 month ed visa from Laos, then you have to report every 90 days for an extension of stay.

@lopburi you are correct on the pricing.

This first visa can actually be extended every 12-15 months by the school. Therefore, not having to go and renew your initial visa every 12-15 months. I am not absolutely sure, but out of the initial visa and the extension provided by the school you can obtain up to 3 years validity, on the one visa application. This can be done for up to 10 years, then I believe a completely new application for a visa will be required, and applied for outside of Thailand.

  7. Hi neronimo,

I am on an Ed visa, I am from the U.K got the visa in Laos, there is no such thing as a multi-entry Ed-visa. You will only get a 3 month visa for education, then every 90 days you will need to report to the relevant immigration office to request an extension to stay for another 90 days, this is usually the one nearest the school you are learning at, the school will need to give you the correct paperwork to do this. You do not need to leave Thailand and do a boarder run every 90 days.

However, if you wish to visit another country while you are in any 9o day period, you need to get a reentry form from the school or immigration, otherwise you visa will be invalid.

  8. I wonder what Bentley it was? Back in the UK at the nearest local dealer where I am from, Bentley, Mulsanne 2012MY (12), Thai Baht 8,587,016.62, that is before you add any form of import tax. So I would like to know how much was paid in cash? whistling.gif

At the same dealer a 2011 model Bentley, Continental GTC Speed 2011MY (11), Thai Baht 4,771,148.46, I am sure I would not want to be carrying that much in cash. giggle.gif
