  1. There is no need to register the birth in the UK if you have a Thai birth certificate.

There is if you want the child to get a UK passport and a national insurance number to make life easier in the future.

Not true, All I needed was my daughters Thai birth certificate, with my name on it translated to English and approved by the Ministery of foreign affairs. She got her UK

    passport no problem.

  2. What documents are required for a 60 day extension of stay as a father of Thai child?, sadly courts are taking their time and we wont get this fixed out with legal documentation before my visa expires on the 30th. Second day court hearing is on the 29th! so I doubt very much we will have documents from the courts to take with us the 30th (exact day my visa expires).

Do I need a translation to Thai of my passport? if so does it need to be done by a lawyer.

You will need to have your child with you when your apply.

You will need their birth certificate (plus a copy) and copies of their house book.

Proof of residence may also be needed.

No need for your passport to be translated. Just copies of your passport photo page, visa, entry/permitted to stay stamp and TM6 departure card.

Proof of residence? what is accepted?

  4. To qualify for an extension you need:

    - 800,000 in bankaccount in Thailand

    OR

    - an income of 65,000 a month

    Or

    - a combination of yearly income and money in the bank totaling at least 800,000 baht.

In otherwords your income is enough to qualify you for an extension of stay. You will need to rpoof you income to immigraiton with a letter from your embassy confirming your income. Your embassy decides what they accept as proof.

hMM What about say a UK national that has a disability pension from another nation? would one have to get document proving income from the other nation translated and validated as a proof of income by the UK embassy to be accepted as proof of income?

  5. Thank you Guys for the awesome info.

    What is CPA?

I intend to buy some agricultural land for my Daughter that may produce an income for her or very least some rice. I Wish to keep the l

and out of the reach and control of her Thai Relatives, of which for information I have no reason to distrust good people, good family.

I of course..best interests of my daughter at heart.

As my daughter is 8 months old I do seek a controlling interest, in terms of taking care of her assets. Work permit? do I need one? I wish to take what would be considered an advisory role while being a non majority shareholder with controlling interest. Technically I believe I wont be working, but giving advice (grey area)  4 Thai workers won´t be a problem.

For the gentleman or lady that asked, the land is in Roi Et.

Thank you everyone for the above informative posts.

  6. From Thai immigration act. in ref to TM 30

"Section 38 : The house – master , the owner or the possessor of the residence , or the hotel manager

where the alien , receiving permission to stay temporary in the Kingdom has stayed , must notify the
competent official of the Immigration Office located in the same area with that hours , dwelling place or
hotel, within 24 hours from the time of arrival of the alien concerned. If there is no Immigration Office
located in that area , the local police official for that area must be notified.
In case the house , dwelling place , or hotel where the alien has stayed under provision of Para.1
is located within the Bangkok area , such notification must be reported to the competent official at the
    Immigration Division"

    In reference to TM 28

"Section 37 : An alien having received a temporary entry permit into the Kingdom must comply with the
    following :
    .
    2. Shall stay at the place as indicated to the competent official. Where there is proper reason
that he cannot stay at the place as indicated to the competent official, he shall notify the competent official
of the change in residence , within 24 hours from the time of removing to said place.

    3. Shall notify the police official of the local police station where such alien resides, within twenty
    – four hours from the time of arrival. In the case of change in residence in which new residence is not
located the same area with the former police stations , such alien must notify the police official of the
police station for that area within twenty – four hours from the time of arrival.

    4. If the alien travels to any province and will stay there longer than twenty – four hours , such
alien must notify the police official of the police station for that area within forty – eight hours from the time

  7.

Are you serious?  You have been studying Thai for 2 years and still cannot understand when someone speaks to you in Thai?  And you cannot write anything using the Thai alphabet?

Either your teacher sucks, or your learning skills suck, or both

    Thats a very mean comment

It is indeed, not everyone is great with Asian language, some have the knack for it others don´t. I can speak fluently 5 European Languages, 3 of which get mistaken by locals as my mother tongue yet Thai I find rather difficult. Besides the inability to learn the language does not mean the OP was abusing the visa system. I most certainly would be annoyed if I had an ED visa and got denied through a lack of understanding or comprehension as the visa is a visa to study the language and not to learn or comprehend the language! If a person was denied an extension and can prove their attendance and effort to learn through providing study material, books with notes and so on surely they would have a case for a very strong appeal.

BTW that rude comment insults every Thai (and farang) English teacher and/or Thai national that could not learn English after being taught for 9-12 years in the Education system here.

I would say that if you fill in the arrival card and give your address, you have reported your adress to immirgation and no further report is needed.

But the big question is how immigration will regard this.

well we'll do the tm30 in any case and see if they ask for more

Way I see it...address has been given via arrivals card. TM 30 by house master will have to be filled out and handed in to Immigration/police station.

And 90 day reporting as per given address.

Way I see it get your TM30´s done. Just visited a French friend - he had the same police and army turning up. He had his paperwork done. We live 30Km apart and are just a series of nothing villages where nothing happens.

Looks like unregistered guests at houses are a target as well as overstayers, visa runners and back to back tourist visas.

Get your TM 30´s done guys save hassle and 2000 Bahts.

  9.

TM 28 must be done at the immigraiton office, but can be done by mail. (Include self addressed stamped envellope)

TM 30 must be done at the immigration office, but if there is no local immigration office can be done at the local police station.

if you fill out your arrival card with the address of the house you will be staying in, is there then any need to also do a form 28?

    Damn good question!

TM28 is a change of address..something I am not doing, my address is as per arrival card.

I do suspect TM30 will have to be filled out at the local cop shop.

  10.

Both you and the housemaster must report and each of you can be fined for not doing so.

you fill out form 28, the housemaster form 30. The housemaster can also be the person renting the place.

If you get a receipt you know everything is above board, if no receipt or if the corect amount is notmentioned it is of course fishy.

hmm then when you go ask for proof of address they refuse to acknowledge that they have anything there confirming your address.

Antifagasto, I complete do not understand your post. What do you mean?

  11. If you have already been doing 90 day reports to immigration you should not need to do a TM28.

Just have your wife or girlfriend do a TM30 keep the receipt for it in case somebody tries to make a problem

Oddly never had to a 90 day report as of yet. I will have to soon.

Incidental, help for myself and others, what documents are required for the TM30 and TM 28? (other than the forms filled out correctly)

    Thanks in advance.

  12. TM 28 must be done at the immigraiton office, but can be done by mail. (Include self addressed stamped envellope)

TM 30 must be done at the immigration office, but if there is no local immigration office can be done at the local police station.

Ultra cool Thank you kindly. By police station do mean police check point box thing on the village main road or else where in nearest town.

    Thank you Mario,

Can this be done at the local Amphur or MUST be done at Immigration?

reason I suspect something fishy and a local tip off is the house at end of our street has to report also..and the Foreigner..does not and has never lived there, with the exception of a few weeks holiday 2x a year! (In fact his wife is currently in his country!)

Receipt should state what it is for.

what would happen if I changed dates saying I arrived to live in their house say..today?

Form TM.28 attached for those that may need to fill one out.

FYI..no immigration in Roi Et..nearest Khon kaen, Udon or Mudhakhan (excuse spelling!)

  14. Hi guys and Gals,

Friday August 1st at 5:45am (yup nice time) house was visited by army and 2 police cars after a check (possibly tip off!) of a foreigner living in the house.

OTT I know..for a podgy disabled guy..never been on wrong visa or god/Buddha forbid an overstay!

The house master who is also chief of the village was called to a meeting today with other village chiefs and who knows else and told to present copy of

blue house book and details of the foreigner, myself (obviously!) and told to pay 2,000 Bahts.

This to me seems to be a bit fishy as should nt we register myself as living at the address on a TM 30 form (the form asked to fill out my details was not TM 30 form). I do accept responsibility for not having filled out the TM 30 form, actually did fill one out but forgot to take it to immigration when we went on a 500KM round trip to Khon Kaen to get my daughters Thai passport.

I know, the fine is technically for the house master and it is for him to inform immigration who is living in his house. But, T.I.T, a fine for a Thai is a fine for a farang! (at least in this case)

How do I ensure this not underhand going on (i.e corruption)?

If it is what to do (other than non payment!)? anywhere to report it?

How do I ensure I do not get stung with a second fine when we take the T.M 30 for to immigration? (something we may do in next 24 or 48 hrs and pay fine anyway!)

    anyone else had such experience?

As a side question who and what must I take with me when handing in a filled out TM 30? must I take the house master or can I do it myself?

TM30 form attached for anyone interested in filling one out and avoiding complications in the future.

    Thank you kindly in advance.

  15. There's no bus to Nong Khai at this hour.

Bus station is saying go to Udon Thani now and get a bus to Nong Khai in the morning.

UdonJoe, that sounds like an idea. Is that a same day service, do you know?

Udon or Khon Kaen and I think last bus from Bangkok to Nong Khai is at 22:00.

The embassy in Vientiane don't have one day service as far as I know.

Two busses daily from Khon kaen to Vientiane 8am and 15:00 both from the new terminal 3 bus station., however last trip beginning of July tourist police entered the bus and were talking to and taking photos of all passangers, Thai, Lao and farang. Did not ask to see my ID or anything..just happy to practice their English. I do not recall them asking anyone for ID.

  16. What is required as proof of address for your passport?

I mean what documents, currently I have nothing, mere letter from the government of another EU nation addressed to me confirming my pension income.

Also, what is required for my 8 month old Krung Thai daughter as proof of address, all I have is the blue house book with her name in it.

will it be required to be translated to English by Minister of Foreign Affairs?

    Thanks in advance.

    Krung Thai daughter?

I presume you mean 'look krung' or half-caste.

You can get the blue book translated across from the UK Embassy in Wave Place.

MY understanding of Krung Thai is Half Thai.

No, She does n´t look half caste, she looks 100% European and Zero Thai.

  17. Having being scolded that it is in no way possible for a non Thai to purchase land on a prior topic I do ask what is the best way for a foreigner

to go about purchasing land in Thailand.

I have a Half Thai Daughter, on a non o visa and know of an emergency sale of land at a darn good price about 1/3 below market value if I was to sell it immediately!.

Obviously land in my name is best option (if possible) if not well my daughter.. how do I go about it if 1) for myself or 2) for my daughter.

  18. He is not the legal farther of his child until he goes through the process to legitimize his parenthood.

He can get single entry non-o visas and 60 day extensions of stay to visit his child with just his name on the birth certificate. He will need the birth certificate (plus a copy) and copies of his child's house book pages.

He can get the single entry non-o visa at most nearby embassies and consulates. I can confirm Vientiane and Savannakhet will do them.

I suggest he get the single entry non-o visa before returning after paying his overstay on departure.

+ mothers ID card and house book pages.  I was asked to show those in Vientiane, birth certificate too of mother not 100% sure of that..I went with too much documentation.
