It seems that every week there are two or three new post about overstays.
Two day overstay, Two week overstay, two month, year and more!!
How can anyone be so casual about their status with immigration?
Why is it so difficult to stay in compliance with the regulations when you know months in advance when you are requires to take care of business?
Then to come on TV and ask for help and advice like they should be pitied and we should sympathise with their plight like they are being abused by the system.
My advice:
Be a responsible adult and do what you need to do when you need to do it.
Is it any wonder immigration look at so many as irresponsible fools when so many are?
What you do and don't do reflects on, and affects many more than just you.
Like it or not, we are all lumped together in the eyes of some.
I don't like it!
Just saying!

You can mail in your 90 day reports.i see value in a 1000 baht reentry permit and a day trip to cambodia ( visa 1200 baht) purely to avoid having to visit that place. it's such bad news.
You can also do them at the Imperial World Lad Phrao or Major Hollywood Suksawat offices.
Only some offices permit reporting by mail, not all of them.
My office, Korat, does not permit reporting by mail.

I have wondered if all of the people "falling" to their death in Thailand is actually due to a "cultural, language thing."
I have often noticed that my wife and other Thais I know who speak english never drop anything.
Things leave their hands, and then "fall" to the floor and break!
" How did that plate break?"
" It fell and broke on floor."
" Where did it fall from?"
" My hands."
It seems that people are never pushed and never seem to jump in Thailand... They "fall"

This guy is too good, logical and reasonable to be a Pope in the Catholic superstition.
I am sure there are countless sicko, right wing, religious wackos out there just waiting for a chance to harm him.
I sincerely wish him well, good luck and a long life.

What plight?
Sounds like most of us are doing fine, living within our means and pretty happy.
What's your problem OP?
Maybe it's just your problem??

They always put a slip of paper with my next 90 day reporting date into my passport after I get my extension,
Then another slip with the date of the next one after the 90 day.
I always check the date on the slip before leaving the office..sometimes they calculate the 90 days wrong
I would not leave the office without the slip with the next report date on it!

Move on.
Right or wrong, you can not win.
You are not Thai.
You lose!

Very nice. But please let people with class 5 drugs walk free when busted with small amount. Cannabis is not a drug!
In your dreams. Who will make money if this would be the case? No one.
It is not in the RTP's interest nor their patrons to change that law.
Mark my words, cannabis will NEVER be legalized or decriminalized in this country. NEVER.
They couldn't even bring themselves to legalize kratom.
Never is a very long time.
We thought the same when Reagan was Pres.
Now look.
Cannabis is a medicine.
Gov't is making tax.
$ talks.
Never is a very very long time.............
You willing to put a wager ?
A big one ?
AS you say NEVER.......
Betting is illegal in this country, so no.
You cannot compare the US and Thai drug laws. Public sentiment in the US has an influence on legislation. Here public sentiment is ridiculed and marginalized.
Not only that, federal US law still prohibits the use (medical or recreational) of cannabis. Colorado and Washington STATE have legalized it.
The mind set of Thai politicians is ultra conservative. They will not be willing to change this.
Repression and maintaining power is paramount here.
" Colorado and Washington State have legalized it"
It seems you do not know about California, and 29 other states as well as the district of Columbia!
Until recently the only resistance to legalization in these states was from the Federal DEA.
Under Obama, the DEA was instructed to "look the other way " in these states.
In the end of December 2014, Congress made it mandatory that the DEA can not enforce any laws against marijuana use in any state that has legalized it's use.
Every "pot head " in the U.S. is aware of this.
Why are these 'druggies" better informed than you?
Maybe it's time to start keeping up on current events?
Step away from your beer and pick up a news paper!
-
How comes I have that funny feeling,
90% of posters on this tread are "drugies"
of some kind?
Are you insinuating that they drink beer and coffee??
Oh, my goodness!

Look at the butchers in Thailand (also in Villa market or Foodland) and see they wear gloves. He will put your meat in the bag with that glove, then holds the same bag with that glove, tie the bag with that glove and hand it over to you with the same glove.
Why do they wear gloves anyway?
Then i ask them to put it in a 2nd plastic bag and of course he uses the same dirty glove to hold that bag and hand it over to me.
So everything you touch in a supermarket will have raw meat/poultry/fish bacterials on it.....
On the markets it is even far worse.
Has shopping there ever made you get sick?
I have been buying unrefrigerated food ( meat ) from open markets with conditions like you describe for years.
I do inspect meat before purchase, mostly check the smell and color, and always use proper hygiene when preparing the food, being sure it has been cooked properly.
I have not been ill from bad food even once, since moving to Thailand.
-
The way food is handled by Thai people only seems to bother and have a negative effect on those from cultures where things are kept unnaturally clean and sterile.
I think there is a lot to be said for growing up in a not so sterile environment and building a much stronger immunity system.
Eating food that has not been stored of prepared in what westerners consider a safe fashion seems to only make foreigners ill, not Thai people.

The OP is not trying to understand Thai logic.
He is looking for support and reinforcement for his decision to ignore and disrespect Thai culture.
He states that the girls parents come first and he refuses to be last.....
That means everyone else in her life comes before him.
With his attitude, I understand if she puts him last in her life.
I bet there are a lot of good people that fall between her parents status and his way down there in the basement.
Find a place and culture where parents don't matter.
Maybe an orphanage?
*** I put my entire life on hold to take care of my mother's needs in her last 3 years of life and did it again later to take care of my father for the last 7 years of his life.
There were other options.
I chose to repay the love and support they gave to me my entire life.
Decades later I am still confident I made the right choice.
I am not Thai.
Love and respect of parents is a worldwide concept for non selfish people.

I understand that Thailand's drug laws were heavily influenced by the USA's DEa back in the Vietnam war era.
Now 40 years later the DEA has been pretty much overturned, the "war on drugs' in America has been won and the DEA has lost.
Marijuana is pretty much legal in USA now, taxed and recognized for it's medical benefits.
If the USA does not lose it's influence on Thailand ( and it may lose it, to China in the not to far future )..
Thailand may jump into the 21st century and lighten up on cannabis use some day.

If prayers to an imaginary friend ever get answered....
Why didn't the imaginary friend answer the prayers of those in the plane as it went down?
Too busy listening to those praying for their football team to win?
Being the imaginary guy in the sky must be a rough job
you know what I mean....prioritizing those who need help most and all that silly stuff!

If TV was my only way to measure (and it is not ), I would have to say that Thailand is the most popular place in the world to retire if you are one of the many who love to whine, bitch, criticize and complain.
So many on this site are only content when picking something or someone apart or knocking things down.
Unfortunately, this trait does come with age to many men.
The testosterone stops flowing and they turn into old ladies.
Maybe it's a good thing that western women of their age start growing facial hair and looking like men at about the same age.
I do actually know many here ( in Thailand, not on TV ) who are very pleased with their retirement and life style here in Thailand.
I guess those not motivated to go out and do anything other than play with their computer keyboard day and night, must be a miserable lot.
Thailand is a very enjoyable place to retire, if you know how to enjoy yourself!

"Thailand received full score on entertainment and amenity," ---
Thailand gets next to no international shows, has no major sporting events (Takraw doesn't count), hardly any non-thai musicians who aren't a decade past their peak come to play here, has no worthy musuems or libraries or art galleries, fewer recreational venues than other countries..... yet it still gets full score?
I guess if your definition of "entertainment" is limited to shopping, drinkiing in bars and hiring prostitutes.
Sure there is worse places to live, but seriously maybe some "expats" could enlighten me what constitutes entertainment for old folk in Thailand? Sitting in traffic? Evening Aerobics in the Big C parking lot?
Your opinion I guess.
The Rolling Stones? Eric Clapton? Sting?
A decade past their prime?
I don't think so.
Not much current to 40 entertainment from recent decades, true, but that is a good thing..
In my opinion!

I am worried about the potential damage to my lanterns!
My lanterns are beyond my control once I release them.
Your jets however have a pilot and navigation system.
I believe it is the responsibility of your pilots to avoid my lanterns.
If you are really worried about saving lives...how about one or two nights a year with no commercial passenger flights????
I believe the tradition has been around much longer than your jets or your dollars.

The three "E s" of law enforcement.
Educate,
,
Engineer,
Enforce.
In that order!
Education is first, billboards, radio and television Public Service Announcements teaching people the consequences of unsafe driving is a necessity.
Engineering of safe roads, not only safe surfaces to drive on, but posted speed limits, adequate passing lanes and enough room to park a vehicle without blocking traffic, school zones, pedestrian crossings along with numerous other things is essential.
Enforcement: Once the public has been educated and a safe driving environment has been provided, apprehension of violators is the last step. Heavy fines, jail time, impoundment of vehicles and the loss of the right to drive will be taken seriously. This would require a larger force of traffic officers willing to get out and actually patrol.
If the three "Es" were implemented in Thailand, the country would lose it's rating as the second most dangerous country in the world for traffic fatalities.
It is really that simple.

Falling from a cliff like that has to be totally terrifying. You're falling, there's nothing to save you, and you know you're going to die. Horrible way to end your last few seconds on earth.
It usually does not happen that way.
Most " cliffs" are not huge overhangs like they are in the roadrunner cartoons.
The body will usually hit, bounce, slide and tumble before coming to a stop.
It must be very painful!
A free fall onto a flat surface almost never happens
I did search and rescue work for a while and never saw a freefall from a cliff.

The statements of the OP and of some of those who have replies make it easy to understand why so many Thais consider foreigners to be rude, arrogant and unwanted.
I agree with them and wish their attitude did not reflect on the rest of us.
And to Tham1, Yes, if a monkey waied me, I would return his wai with a big smile and a chuckle.
It is kind of sad that a monkey can be more courteous than a fellow foreigner!
Never stop reminding yourself that you are a better person, maybe someone will believe it!

Saying "Hallo" is considered rude even in Native English Speaking countries of the west.
Next time try " Hello".
GF is Thai, we are from US moving back to stay in Thailand
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

I'm not so sure about this.
I married a Thai here in Thailand, after two and a half years she got her visa to live with me in the U.S. ( a very difficult and long process )
Six years later, we decide to live here in Thailand.
It was much easier for me to get my Non Immigrant ( based on marriage ) visa to stay here in Thailand than to get her into the U.S.
But.....I did have to show proof of income ( or money in a Thai bank ) to get the visa and have had to provide proof of income every year since to get my extensions.
If no documentation of assets is required, I wish you would inform the immigration office!
