  1. The waxy coating on mealybugs tend to repel any liquids.

If spraying for mealybugs, add a drop of dishwashing soap to the mix and it will make the spray soak in.

If you catch the early before there are hundreds of them, I get good results by dabbing them with some rubbing ( Ethyl ) alcohol on a cotton swab.

A little tedious, but effective control and low toxicity.

    Choke Dee!

  2. I just read in a post where someone said we should all be careful of what we say so we do not offend any Thais here in the TV site.

Why would any Thai come to this site in the first place if not to find confrontation?

A Thai really has no need for information about visas do they?

They know that they will find many negative posts and comments about Thailand and the way things are done here on this site.

I think that is why they come to TV, so they can scream " Thai Bashing" and tell farang to go home.

I, for one, am not going to censor my opinions and remarks for the benefit of those who come here only to find views that conflict with theirs.

If they want to hear it,

    bring em on.

P.S., I am careful not to violate the rules that TV has set down about certain unmentionable subjects and really have no opinions on Thai politics, not being a citizen, but as a resident here for years, there are many things that do concern me and warrant discussion on this Site, that is for expats who all have the need for a visa in common.

  3. no matter what, regardless you buy "cheap" chinese junk, or "expensive" chinese junk, the outcome is, you still end up with chinese made junk.

Lifetime of all of this stuff is measured by months, you can call yourself a lottery winner if that stuff reaches two years . . moderate use as a given.

    my 5 cents

I am a believer in things "made in Germany" . . some of my grandmothers kitchen utensils are still in operation on my kitchen's counter, and I would never exchange for chinese made junk

Most of what is sold in America is made in China these days.

Much of it is of a pretty good quality.

I believe what China sells in America has passed quality control standards.

What fails to pass quality control is sold in Thailand.

They know that most Thai people will never return faulty merchandise for a refund or replacement.

Good marketing on China's part I guess!

I have a friend who jokes about opening a store in Thailand called " Things Made in China to be Sold in America"

  4. My advice:

Sign everything you own over to your girlfriend now.

    Hope she keeps you around.

It will end up this way anyway.

    Get it overwith.

If she keeps you..good for you!

If not, you will have some time left to recover.

Choke dee! ( good luck )

** don't take this wrong...it may work and you may be a happy guy,but it may not!

  5. Monks live much better than many Thai people.

They own nothing, but have very much.

I once went to the wat with my wife and her mother.

We were asked to wait in the living quarters to meet the monk my mother in law wanted to see.

I was amazed at the things piled up in the living quarters.

Stacks of new televisions and DVD players and many other things..

I counted over 40 clocks on one wall!

I asked my wife why they had so many things they could not use.

She said that if people give them things, they must accept them.

Like I said, they "own" nothing, but have very much....too much!

  6. Would a Vietnamese greet another Vietnamese in a Wallmart in rural Arkansas? coffee1.gif

JT you obviously never had a Thai (ok not Vietnamese) back in your home country. You will be surprised how after you have a Thai gf all of a sudden Thais appear from nowhere and they all start to meet and greet and come to your home.

    I must agree.

I brought my Thai wife to california for six years before relocating to Thailand.

My job required me to relocate several times.

Every time we moved, Thai people would find us and treat us like family, finding good jobs for my wife, showing us the best places to find real Asian food, Thai children for ours to play with.

    I was amazed.

I started to jokingly refer to it as the Thai Mafia and was happy to be a member!

  7. So many excuses,...so little time! 555

All the defensive posts have made this an interesting and popular thread.

Yes there are valid reasons for some overstays and yes,

There are valid reasons for extensions.

That is why they are available.....if you do the paper work!

This is what I call a "raw nerve thread".

You know you have hit a raw nerve when comments are about the OP ( and what defensive people imagine about him) and not the topic.

My original post was about the irresponsible people who overstay and then come on TV to complain and ask for advice on how to "beat it". ( how many hundreds of times have those questions been asked and answered here on TV in the past?)

My post was not about responsible people who have had to overstay for legitimate reasons and have tried to deal with it on the up and up.

The replies do not seem to be from the responsible who had no choice..

    Thanks for the input...

    Keep squirming !

P.S., the positive comments and likes on this post have outweighed the defensive...

  8. I have a friend who was 8 years overstayed and had a very good reason I thought but obviously the OP won't. He had been here over 10 years and when he was due to renew his marriage visa his wife of 8 years was admitted to hospital. He was shocked to find that she had AIDS and she died. He couldn't leave her bedside up country to travel to BKK. After the funeral and discovering he was HIV + and also became an mentally ill with depression. He couldn't afford the overstay. One month led to another then one year to another.

So OP and all the other ignoramuses get off your high perch and have some compassion.

You may become ill one day, physically or mentally - nobody is exempt.

    My dearest Neeranam...

I, the OP, do realize that there are justified reasons for an overstay. Illness, death, injury....and there are provisions to deal with all of these.

Even in the event of the death of a close one....life still goes on and so do it's responsibilities.

    " I forgot" and I didn't care" just don't cut it.

Sorry, but that is the real world!

Willyumiii would you grass on a person you knew were overstaying?

I am American and am not sure exactly what "grass" means. I assume it means turn someone in???

    No, I would not.

I believe in karma and feel all deeds are rewarded or punished on their own eventually.

One of my closest friends in the country has been here since the 70s and has no pasport.

    I am fine with that.

But, he is not online whining like he is being mistreated.

  10. I have been told that a huge part of the problem in the south is that the people are Muslim and very upset that their children are forced to follow the Buddhist ways of Thailand and required to even recite Buddhist prayers in school like schools in the rest of Thailand.

This is why so much of the violence is aimed at schools and teachers.

Would yo be upset if your children were forced to worship a religion you did not believe in??

    I would!

Buddhism is a non violent belief.

Maybe it would be a good idea not to force prayer in the schools if it would reduce the violence???

    P.S. I am a Buddhist.

Beliefs can be learned...but should never be forced on people...

Like Christians have done all over the world!

    PEACE!
