Try the EGENCIA booking site. geared to business travelers but the logistics co. I do work for uses them a lot for last minute, one way itineraries and the prices they pay which show on my itinerary are usually very low.

"Wikos have a pretty good reputation" (I fixed the name for you). Well, come read french-speaking Android forums and you might revise this statement. They're not really a French company either. They're a Chinese-owned company located in Marseille, France.
Their quality control and service really suck. You get what you pay for, not more.
I wouldn't go for a bleeding edge Android version with them either, they rush out their firmwares full of bugs and you can expect little to no updates.
In the entry-level market segment, I see no clear advantage choosing them over local well-known re-branders like I-Mobile.
Points taken but there are others on this forum who have reported good experiences with Wiko phones.
Is there any forum dedicated to a particular brand of phone whose topics are not dominated by owners having problems and trying to solve them? Go on any Android or even Apple forum and what you see are problems and complaints. I doubt you can name a single manufacturer for which this is not true.

Waring parents whiplashing kids around like that while trying to punish each other is inexcusable. This is not how you show love to children no matter how each parent tries to rationalize and excuse their behavior. They should long ago have engaged a mediator and entered into binding agreements that benefited the kids..not the parents outrageous egos.
Nothing repulses me more that hearing a parent in such a situation say "I'm doing this for my kids".

looking for a cheapy with 8gb memory for a 14 year old. looked at a couple. huawei y5 and obi 454 both are similar priced around 2800 baht. I don't know how reliable these brands are or how well made the phones are. does anyone have any insight? what about oppo and wiko what are their reputations like? looking around the 3k mark or lower.
Thanks

Pretty good deal...Wico's have a pretty good reputation, French company but the phones are made in China and sold under several names; "My Phone" in the Philippines
Nice that it comes with Android 6. The best 8gb phone for the cheapest price has to be the "Homtom" HT7 sold on Gearbest.Com for US$57 (B2000), shipping included. I ordered one a few weeks ago for a friend and it arrived in 10 days, had to pay B100 duty. I tested it out and everything worked smoothly. Good 3000 mAh battery lasts a long time.

Agree that Fortune Town is the best bet but since the OP specifies Sukhumvit, I'd suggest the Power Mall at Siam Paragon, (Siam BTS, direct entrance) 4th floor. There is a dedicated ASUS section in the computer sales area.
Though Paragon is a somewhat upscale mall, I have found the prices in Power Mall to be very competitive, not infrequently the lowest when I've comparison shopped for major purchases: refrigerator, AC, microwave, ect.

I once had the internals of about $10,000 worth of office equipment fried when lightning struck a utility pole next to our building. Though there were surge suppressors in place for the power outlets, non of the incoming telephone or cable lines were protected and that is how the massive electrical spike from the strike entered the system.
I was fortunate that insurance covered most of the replacement costs but I learned a lesson about how vulnerable the internal circuitry of modern office machines can be and how sneaky a power surge can be getting inside your gear.

OK..points taken about Win-10. Thanks for the replies.
What steps should be taken in advance of downloading the Win-10 upgrade to best avoid issues during and after the download?
I know a full system back-up is recommended: what is the simplest way to accomplish that?

A bit hokey but this shows how much work was involved in making linen.

Does "Classic Shell", the Window's-7 emulator used by many, including me to avoid the horrors of Windows 8 work in a similar way on Windows10?
The July 29th deadline for the free Win-10 upgrade is a little more than three months away...decision time is looming for holdouts such as myself. I'd feel a bit more comfortable if I knew that CS would still be a fall back option.

For "face to face", go to Fortune Tower just above the RAMA-9 MRT (subway). Large variety of dealers and selection. Prices generally posted. Lots of Asus phones on display but you will find little variation in price, dealer to dealer.

"20 rai of land that had originally been owned by his parents but had come into the hands of Khanong"
A very vague sentence. How did the land "come into" the hands of Khanong? Did Chuchit's family sell the land to Khanong and when they spent the money finished wanted the land back? I have seen just such a scenario play out a few times here. Collateral for borrowing? Many details missing here.
"Vague" is the absolute epitomy of Thai journalism. Some people like to claim ""lost in translation", but no, it's just piss poor journalism. Still, it gives the forum chappies plenty of leeway to speculate.
Why is this "piss poor journalism"? It was written as a developing story. They printed the factors as they knew them. In any case such as this, it takes time and a lot of digging to get the complete story. Better to write what they knew rather than unfounded speculation.

Linen is derived from the flax plant, the process of making linen has many steps and is labor intensive. Flax is grown extensively in India but I don't know about SE Asia.

Very few flights leave "half empty" these days. Airlines have cut the number of flights way back and more and more, use 777's and 380's to various hubs rather than direct to destinations.
I just returned last night from a quick round trip from BKK to LAX on Asiana: BKK-ICN-LAX. BKK to ICN was on a 380..full. ICN to LAX was a 747, full. Both return flights were 380's. LAX-ICN full, ICN BKK 90% full.
There is no one best way to get cheap flights...prices change by the hour. First scan the consolidators like Expedia, Kayak ect. Then go to the Airline websites...sometimes they have promotions the consolidators don't have. Some people have had good luck with travel agencies as they to sometimes get unlisted promotions. The more flexible your travel dates, the better your chances.

For more than ten years I've heard ongoing rumors of BG-7's imminent closure, especially when one of the older owners died (on the can in the men's room) several years ago, but it hasn't happened yet.
The current owner has to be struggling. I don't know the rent but I know it's high. He has tried opening an air-conditioned area in the upstairs mezzanine...I've never yet seen a single person sitting there. He built out a disco in the rear, opening onto the alley and that was a complete bust. He introduced a live DJ in late afternoons and live bands at night and most customers seem to hate both. The nights of SRO crowds have long passed, as has the youth of most of the regular providers. There still can be seen an occasional bright new face, but not very often.
Staff has been cut back and those remaining have had their pay cut. You will find the bar staff much more aggressive these days looking for drinks and tips, trying to fill out what has been lost. The writing is pretty much on the wall; BG-7's time has past. One night, sooner or later, the front gate will be locked at 2am and not unlocked until the demo crew shows up sometime later.

If somebody back home can send you some funds via Western Union, you can collect them using your passport. Western Union is everywhere in Thailand...like 7-11's

I've been successfully growing potted herbs on my 9th floor Bangkok balcony: sweet & Thai basil, mint, pak chii, and red chili peppers. I would like to grow Rosemary; my favorite herb. (Sage as well but I have never seen it here)
I have seen 1' to 2' developed rosemary plants at Chatuchak. Any opinion as to how they would do on a balcony? What kind of light does rosemary need? Water frequently, as with basil or sparingly, like my chili peppers?

I challenge anyone to name an urban transit system in any major metropolitan area worldwide that does not have occasional breakdowns and service interruptions.
Just one.
I do agree that there is cause for complaint regarding the BTS's lack of public announcements and delay information.

Hydroelectric power only provides around 7% of Thailand's electricity. The bulk is provided by natural gas/fossil fuels.
I'm surprised by such a low percentage for Hydro power...I figured must be 20 to 25%. Interesting to know.

Recently I was chatting online with a friend who lives in Cebu, the Philippines. He was saying the main source of discontent among ex-pats there these days are the sometimes twice daily "brownouts", often lasting three and four hours at a time. No AC, , no internet, no TV. The hot item for an expat to have is a home generating unit, not unusual to see five or six APU's sitting in the living room. The Philippines grid and generating capacity is poor to start with and apparently the low water at hydro dams is making it much worse.
This got me to wondering how much of Thailand's electrical supply is hydro? With the ongoing drought and no major rains yet this season, water levels must be getting pretty low and hydro generating capacity greatly reduced. Is this an upcoming issue or does Thailand have enough coal, oil and nuclear (?) generating capability to overcome any major hydro shortage?
If such a thing as brownouts did become a reality here, I could see it becoming the dominant social issue pretty quickly. With some of Bangkok's super malls using as much power as some small provinces, power rationing could get pretty contentious.
Any informed members out there with knowledge of the Thai power grid?

Wow! Audio stuff sure has gotten complicated and arcane since my dad and I put together our Heathkit Amp, Pre-Amp and FMTuner. Took more than a year to assemble...then de-bug them...always a mysterious buzz somewhere. We then made 3' tall bass reflex loudspeakers out of plywood from plans in an audio magazine. They sounded so good...except for that damn buzz.....took years to track it down to a bad capacitor.

I doubt you can since its not supported by roku there....quite a backdated technology and limited in functionality...id rather get a high spec android box for a bit more $ .... Far more versatile.
Sold my roku ages ago.
Best way to get one is get it from amazon and to you via a service like borderlinx.
Thanks for your reply. Could you please tell me more about an Adroid box.
Just search "Android Kodi" on this forum...dozens of topics detailing it. You can also do the same search in You Tube, many videos on the topic.

All 3 major providers: AIS, True & DTAC have 24/7 kiosks in the airport arrivals hall.
If you will be spending most of your time in urban areas, all 3 providers also offer the option of unlimited Wi-Fi in covered locations. Both AIS and True have strong Wi-Fi in most major malls and business districts so you might not need to buy as much data as you think. Most hotels also have free wi-fi...except the 5-Star ones who charge ridiculous rates for it.
Several times in the last few months, DTAC Sims were stacked up free at the Immigration desks....seems to be an on and off thing but I picked one up for a visiting friend and it was easy to set-up and use.

Just spent the 14th & 15 th on in Pattaya, Soi Post Office and the vicinity and in those 2 days did not see one soldier or policeman on patrol.
Did see a LOT of Chinese on WS...like a lava flow..unending.

- An FYI to you home rib chefs, while most supermarkets in Pattaya and Bangkok normally sell pork ribs in thin strips, Thai style, I have found that if you ask one of the butchers, they can usually pull a whole, uncut rack out of the meat locker. I get mine at "Foodland" in Bangkok but a friend who I told about was able to get them at "Foodland" and "Big-C" in Pattaya.
Kamala co-operative helps out with annual circumcisions

What they wont talk about are comparable events held and sponsored by similar organizations to "circumcise" young girls, from infants to age 7 & 8. Sometimes it's just a symbolic scratch on the clitoris but more often it involves excising a piece of the clitoral hood and sometimes the tip of the clitoris as well. It has become increasingly common in Malaysia and Indonesia in the last decade as conservative Islam has become more popular and there are reports of it taking hold in some of the southernmost Thai provinces.
One of the great arguments in Islam these days is whether it was encouraged by the prophet or not.
Classified as a human rights abuse by the UN and most nations and referred to as "Female Genital Mutilation" (FGM), though not nearly as severe as more extensive versions found in Africa and the middle east...especially Egypt and Somalia.
