In spite of all the uncertainties at this point, The Thai government agencies are making some good first steps.
When I first came here ganja was almost as easy to buy as beer.
Those easygoing days - along with the Thai smile - aren't coming back anytime soon.
This time around it will be big business and government combined to milk it for all it's worth.

Our 2018 Revo [love it] has manually operated Hi/Lo beams and I'm OK with that.
My problem is that the headlights don't seem bright enough. Maybe they have the yellow halogen bulbs and a switch to the white LED units would improve the nighttime visibility.
Thanks for opening this topic because it would be of interest to most Revo owners.

It confuses me that Liberals still want us to be in the Middle East when Trump is doing whatever he can to pull us out. Let Israel fight alone their own enemies without having to spill more American blood.
We have already topple Saddam for the Kurds, and now these guys are asking us to do more?... Muslim people need to police their own land without the help of others. It has always been a mess in that geosphere since their religion was founded, and it will continue to be so regardless if we are there or not.
Enough is enough!
That nails it.
The entire post-9/11 military strategy of the United States has been an abject failure.
It has cost trillions of dollars, millions of lives, and there is no indication that anyone is better off, whether it's the American public or innocent civilians in the Middle East.
Oil and Israel aren't worth what this disaster is costing.

If they kill Brazil's criminal underclass doesn't that protect the people who are not the criminal underclass?
That's an excellent point that I didn't even consider.
Thanks for that little bit of insight.

Bolsonaro isn't doing this to protect people. He's doing it to encourage the extrajudicial killing of as many of Brazil's criminal underclass as possible.
When that happens it saves the police, the courts, and the jails from doing the jobs they are paid to do.

When I first came here in the late '70s it was almost as easy to score grass as it was to buy beer.
Ganja was part of the culture. You could get it in the cities, in the countryside, and from fishing villages on the islands, it was everywhere.
The war on drugs brought in speed, smack, coke, and a host of other evils along with it. Just like Prohibition did in the USA of the 1920s.
What we may be seeing now is a return to sanity.
Let's hope so.

The reality is that the US Government wants to catch him, put him on trial, and jail him as a warning to others.

How are they going to rig that?
Take your time.

A simple question for Chomper.
Was the USA acting illegally on the files that Assange had released?
Why isn't the USA trying to get Russians who have also hacked into their system extradited.
ALL governments commit illegal acts that mostly are never exposed.
They only get mad if they are exposed and then they try everything to cover it up.
The confusion is probably the result of too much Kool-Aid at the 4th of July picnic.
The effects can be long lasting.

Why are you confused Chomper?
Do you not understand transparency and openness, moral justice or blind stupidity on the part of the government?
He was originally wanted (supposedly) on a charge from Sweden which was dubious to say the least.
Sweden has dropped the charge so there should be no outstanding warrant for him. Yes he jumped bail but the cost of the current ongoing charge of bail jumping vastly exceeds the cost of "justice" and is bordering on "loss of face" for the original government Tory/LibDem back in 2010.
He is supposedly wanted by the US government for Wikileaks in exposing illegal US government which it seems were true and that the US government desperately wanted not be shown as the liars that they were.
In 2017 the Swedish government dropped ALL charges against him.
He is very concerned that if he leaves the embassy he will be arrested by the UK police to face the bail jumping charge and then extradited to the USA to be charged there.

All good points that would be hard to gainsay.
The reality is that the US Government wants to catch him, put him on trial, and jail him as a warning to others.

Stop the selective reading
Don't get testy.
The issue is whether or not she will be extradited to the US.
My contention is that the underlying reason is to enforce sanctions on Iran.

Nothing to do with Trump
This particular case has everything to do with Trump and the US sanctions on Iran.

What are all the keyboard bar stool warriors going to whine and bitch about after the elections. They have been screaming, elections, we have to have elections and now there is going to be elections they are coming up with a million different stories about how they aren't going to be fair, there going to be corrupt, cant be true results. Why are all you fools yelling and screaming about elections in a country where you are nothing more than guests, cant vote, cant own property, have no say in almost anything. The junta hasn't turned out to be the best thing in the world but were needed, no more riots, no more killings, dont have to worry about what colour shirt you are wearing when you go out. Hope the country remains peacefull after the election.
You make some good points and finish off with a concise and fair evaluation of the junta. That's it, in a nutshell.
I will however take issue with your statement that we are "guests" here. We don't even qualify as guests. I wasn't invited, were you? We're more like party-crashers who have arrived after the party that ended over 20 years ago.
Thailand may be in for another period of turmoil.
Democratic competition and political pluralism is often a recipe for chaos in countries that don't have a history of such practices.
Tell me again how many military coups there have been since 1932.

Rather strange, as far as I am aware Thailand did not operate this type only France; Indonesia; West Germany; South Africa and Turkey.
Unable to get any closer to it but looks like it is being beautifully restored as a garden ornamentThis is not an old aircraft. Those 6 bladed high efficient props are relatively new.
Maybe they are decorative add-ons.
The rest of the plane looks like a genuine Transall C-160.

OK, my comment may have been a bit breif and didn't communicate my thought on this. I agree legalisation may not lead to more people taking it up. What I was thinking was there seems to be the idea that the legalisation for medical use also gives the green light to recreational use, this remains to be seen. I support the medical and recreational use of the drug, however is Thai society mature enough to deal with it.
"...is Thai society mature enough to deal with it [?]"
That's a patronizing and ultimately clueless question.
Were you here in the 1970s when ganja was as easy to get and readily available as beer?

For sure.
The 1936 film Reefer Madness has become a classic comedy... although it wasn't intended that way.
Only an imbecile would take it seriously.

The Chiang Dao area could be recommended for a day trip. It's a little over an hour from CM.
Beautiful mountain; interesting cave with old Buddha images; Hilltribe market on Tuesday mornings in the cool season; Hilltribe villages on trekking routes, and more.
Happy trails.

Agreed.
That's another good reason to send troops to the border in a show of strength.
Deter illegals from coming in and keep the militias under control at the same time.

Been here long enuf to know how to do a visa, buy insurance.
My Thai family, and extended family, and their contacts do it for me. Any questions I have about this country I get answers from them.
Fed up with hearing the same old gripes, putdowns, flames and trolling from the same members on the same topics every day.
But it is no different than in the West. There people do the exact same things, say the exact same things, P and M about the exact same things. All that changes is the language.
I have no desire to be around, or read about, or speak to such negative people in my life any more.
Excellent post.
It sums up the topic very well.
You live here... have a family... have a life. So do I.
But the loudest voices on the forum come from the misfits who blame Thailand and the Thais for all their problems. Anyone who challenges them is shouted down as thaier than Thai.
It's not constructive criticism, it's relentless Thai-bashing from a bunch of losers who should have gone back to Farangland a long time ago.

I have never 'defended' acts of cruelty / Islamist extremism so kindly don't make false allegations just because I disagree with your type of posts.
When living in Pattaya for approx four years I lived among a Thai Sunni Muslim community. Could hear the call to prayer at 4:30AM, then went back to sleep, which I actually thought sounded soothing. Never felt threatened or saw examples of the acts you go on about endlessly. Sure there are some Muslims who carry out the terrible deads you talk to. All I'm doing is providing some counter to the hateful hyperbole which you and some others greet every topic that touches upon Islam / Muslims.
Good post.
Thanks for that.
