The reality is that the US Government wants to catch him, put him on trial, and jail him as a warning to others.

And if they catch him they’ll try him in an open court of law before a jury.

How are they going to rig that?

    Take your time.

Same confused emoji from Chomper once again.

    A simple question for Chomper.

Was the USA acting illegally on the files that Assange had released?

Why isn't the USA trying to get Russians who have also hacked into their system extradited.

ALL governments commit illegal acts that mostly are never exposed.

They only get mad if they are exposed and then they try everything to cover it up.

The confusion is probably the result of too much Kool-Aid at the 4th of July picnic.

The effects can be long lasting.

    Why are you confused Chomper?

Do you not understand transparency and openness, moral justice or blind stupidity on the part of the government?

He was originally wanted (supposedly) on a charge from Sweden which was dubious to say the least.

Sweden has dropped the charge so there should be no outstanding warrant for him. Yes he jumped bail but the cost of the current ongoing charge of bail jumping vastly exceeds the cost of "justice" and is bordering on "loss of face" for the original government Tory/LibDem back in 2010.

He is supposedly wanted by the US government for Wikileaks in exposing illegal US government which it seems were true and that the US government desperately wanted not be shown as the liars that they were.

In 2017 the Swedish government dropped ALL charges against him.

He is very concerned that if he leaves the embassy he will be arrested by the UK police to face the bail jumping charge and then extradited to the USA to be charged there.

What are all the keyboard bar stool warriors going to whine and bitch about after the elections. They have been screaming, elections, we have to have elections and now there is going to be elections they are coming up with a million different stories about how they aren't going to be fair, there going to be corrupt, cant be true results. Why are all you fools yelling and screaming about elections in a country where you are nothing more than guests, cant vote, cant own property, have no say in almost anything. The junta hasn't turned out to be the best thing in the world but were needed, no more riots, no more killings, dont have to worry about what colour shirt you are wearing when you go out. Hope the country remains peacefull after the election.

You make some good points and finish off with a concise and fair evaluation of the junta. That's it, in a nutshell.

I will however take issue with your statement that we are "guests" here. We don't even qualify as guests. I wasn't invited, were you? We're more like party-crashers who have arrived after the party that ended over 20 years ago.

Thailand may be in for another period of turmoil.

Democratic competition and political pluralism is often a recipe for chaos in countries that don't have a history of such practices.

Tell me again how many military coups there have been since 1932.

Transall C160 in somebody garden just near to Nong Nooch Bangsaray.
Rather strange, as far as I am aware Thailand did not operate this type only France; Indonesia; West Germany; South Africa and Turkey.
Unable to get any closer to it but looks like it is being beautifully restored as a garden ornament

This is not an old aircraft. Those 6 bladed high efficient props are relatively new.

    Maybe they are decorative add-ons.

The rest of the plane looks like a genuine Transall C-160.

OK, my comment may have been a bit breif and didn't communicate my thought on this.  I agree legalisation may not lead to more people taking it up.  What I was thinking was there seems to be the idea that the legalisation for medical use also gives the green light to recreational use, this remains to be seen.  I support the medical and recreational use of the drug,  however is Thai society mature enough to deal with it.

"...is Thai society mature enough to deal with it [?]"

That's a patronizing and ultimately clueless question.

Were you here in the 1970s when ganja was as easy to get and readily available as beer?

I have never 'defended' acts of cruelty / Islamist extremism so kindly don't make false allegations just because I disagree with your type of posts.

When living in Pattaya for approx four years I lived among a Thai Sunni Muslim community. Could hear the call to prayer at 4:30AM, then went back to sleep, which I actually thought sounded soothing. Never felt threatened or saw examples of the acts you go on about endlessly. Sure there are some Muslims who carry out the terrible deads you talk to. All I'm doing is providing some counter to the hateful hyperbole which you and some others greet every topic that touches upon Islam / Muslims.

    Good post.

    Thanks for that.

I've heard that there are a couple of honest ones in Thailand,  working at legitimate jobs.  However, I have not encountered them.

Neither have I, but I'll keep looking.

The Thai cops are doing what they should have done a long time ago.

Keep the pressure on until they find another country to do their dirty business in.

    Moped gang.

Nothing new if you're old enough to remember the UK in the late '50s and early '60s.

There were the Rockers and the Mods. The Rockers were later personified by the Stones - the Mods by the Beatles.

The Rockers had their big kick-ass Harleys. Triumphs, and BSAs;  the Mods had their little scooters.

If you live long enough you see that everything old is new again.

In almost an exact mirror image of that, my wife's business also benefits substantially as a result of Chinese tourists and she's now in her third year of studying Mandarin - we should put them together and let them make us rich then you and I can go out and play golf and drink beer.

    +1.

My wife also profits from her tenants - some of whom are Chinese - in the rental properties she owns.

Her own father was ethnic Chinese born and raised in Thailand, but she will often use the derogatory term sai jaek to anyone showing selfish or arrogant behavior.

Most Thais don't really dislike the Chinese because they've been a part of the history and culture for so long.

That said, when it's called for, they don't hesitate to call a spade a spade.

Yet the automotive industry is thriving...

Indeed it is, and the country as a whole has modernized to a great extent since I first came here forty years ago.

Somebody knows how to get productive work out of Thais, Laotians, Khmers, and Burmese.

  11. The coolest and most comfortable pants I've ever worn are what the Thais call gahng-gehng jeen - Chinese pants.

Light weight cotton, indigo dyed, no elastic or belt loops, you fold them over at the waist like a pak-o-mah.

Available at the local markets where traditional clothes are sold, and very inexpensive.
