  1. break beats - drum & bass - progressive house - hip hop - alternatives

BTW, DJ Nomad if you were able to play Fatboy Slim (Norman Cook) audio in the club that night would be awesome.

    Explorer  :o

Tell me about it. LOL. Was really happy the video projector was working but apparently they are STILL waiting for the sound problem fixed from computer to mixer. I love that VCD got it on DVD in Oz too. Big Beach Boutique II its called. Great sized crowd. THanx for popping in. Hope you had a good night.

    Cheers and Beers

  2. All of the above in the poll are tedious nonsense and NOT music.

    Hence your name :o

Well I knew it would gets some responses for music I left out. Yes, I did lump some together. More so Pop I would include 80's in that. By the way Britmav, If you read the forums there is only one about a club. Least its not boring like yours. :D

Anyway, yes it is more directed to the dance music scene. They tend to be the peeps who go out at night. Never hear of peeps saying "Oh wow, at xxx club they got this real cool dj playing Opera." LOL

Think if you put all genres in prob be more than 20 titles. Hence, why I said peeps could add their own.

  3. House whiskey - the worst kind in Thailand :o  And I bet the voddy aint up too much either :D .  But worth it for the draft heiny and considering my booze intake 500 baht all you can drink is a bargain, coz it looks like a nice club.

Wonder what the DJs like?  :D

So what happened to your late night opening scheme Carl?

Well, I say I look a bit like you. Dam sexy after few jugs. :D

Oh Liquid Lounge is open until 1am too.

Late night scheme?? Was only a poll to start with first. SOmething like that is going to take time in a place like Thailand. Have had some great feedback from pm's and some great advice too. Due to holiday to Oz not commiting until I get back. New tunes and all. This is a step by step project.

And last but not least. It is a really nice bar. Look, girly bars and gogo bars are fine they do serve their purpose. But, not my cup of tea. I like good tunes, a nice environment and chilled out peeps.

So, see some of you tonight.

  4. O.K. better late than never.

The drinks are Draft Heiny. Then its house whiskey, vodka, gin, tequila, rum, house wine and soft drinks.

With one cool Dj spinning the tunes. I return to Oz for 2 weeks holiday and when I return I will be bringing back crates of Drum'n'Bass and trance with a sprinkle of Pop music t boot.

If you see a guy popping away behind the decks that will be me. Come and say hi!!!

    Cheers and beers

  5. Umm, those that have heard of Michael Hutchinson from INX may remember he died from a sexual act which included a belt. Apparently, it heightens the pleasure.

    :o

Therefore, belt may of come loose.

Now, if the belt wasn't found then there are some serious questions.

As to mraloha comments. CALM DOWN. My wife was telling me of the news about a Thai taxi driver who ran over a person. He stopped his cab and put the man in his taxi. On lookers thought he was taking the man to the hospital. But, no. Took him to a quiet road to run over him some more to make sure he was dead. Now, theres compassion. NOT.

ANYBODY ANY RACE is capable of murder.

I smoke LM Red but them new pics of body parts are really putting me off... I always ask for a pack with the bloke smoking while carrying his kid.

  8. ^ Yeah what they said. Make sure you use the money to 'extend' the Visa, rather than using the WP to do so!

Why not get it from Penang though?

No fun in Penang. Wife wants to see where I am from plus the family is throwing a blessing of the wedding thing.

Just with a married visa means I need to keep 400, 000 in bank. THink the work one be the best.

Am going to Adelaide to organise. Will only use one letter of employment.

    Cheers

    Carl

Can't wait to down a few Pale Ales either. And thats the Coopers ones.

  9. carlthailand,

I'm planning to go there with me missus this Sat (2nd April), will you be spinning as well?

Anyway, could you lineup a few repertoire of the night. Nothing specific but a general view would be cool. Just don't want to be "lost in translation" later.  :o

What time will the music start pumping anyway?

    Explorer  :D

    Hi Explorer,

I will be playing some old skool funky house grooves along the lines of Armand Van Heldon, Phats and smalls, tori Amos to name a few then some of the newer house tracks. Depending on the mood I will play some harder house music boardering on hard trance. TOny de vit style.

Seeing as the drinking starts at 7pm. I will be there around that time. My wife doesn't finish until 6 so will depend on her getting ready. :D Normally, the dj (me) will start kicking in around 9ish. SO plenty of time to meet yourself and hopefully a few other TV members. Should be a good night from the feedback I am getting from some other members.

Still have to get exact list of drinks yet too.

    CHeers

  10. O.K. I have to return to Oz for my Non imm o visa. Meaning my work visa as such. Although I am married to a Thai and have 400, 000bht in the bank I have been told to get the work visa.

Now, I have a job and my boss is happy to give me letter of employment to confirm status. I have also been offered another job in a totally different field.

Question is should I get a letter of employment from this employer too???

    Thanx

  11. ...

I think you both missed the point. I think there was no reference to Asians because they are happy to say hello. I find I have no trouble with that. I think I try to at least say hi to a farang more so someone in a work outfit of sorts. Gee, whats wrong with being nice anyway. On that the farangs I've seen recently don't read TV or perhaps its dickie and serendipstick.  :o

    Cc

Are you sure they missed the point? How many Thais/Asians do you see in a day? What percentage of them say hello, smile, or otherwise acknowledge you? I'm guessing of the five hundred or so Thais I saw yesterday going to an office, taking a few taxis, and then going through the local Tesco Lotus and walking home with arms full of groceries with my wife, maybe 1 or 2% tried to make eye contact and about half of them smiled while doing so. I'm counting only strangers, of course...

Is that eye contact. I do not shy away if I have eye contact with someone. I always smile and give a nod or say hello. H3ll if I ran upto everybody in the street to say hi thats would be taking it too the extreme. You answered that yourself anyway. Do you expect everybody to make eye contact. I don't. I just think whether Thai or farang both get my equal time. Don't favor either. Perhaps I was a tad harsh with my comment to dickie and serendickie. So, I apologies.

    Anyway, Hello. :D

    Cc

If I expected more than 2% of farang strangers to do the same, then I have an expectation that they should give me special treatment because I am a farang! Of course, since I see only a handful of farangs on a similarly busy day (let's say 5 for nice even numbers), that means I should not expect any farang acknowledgement on about 9/10 days in order to match the welcoming spirit of the locals.

  12. As for double pricing. Well, life isn't fair. Hairdressers charge women more than men. Some health clubs don't allow men to train the same time as women. So many things like that go on
Wouldn't expect these words coming from a farang!(me not being serious, Carl.) :o

I am perfectly ok with the double-pricing. Just being sacarstic to some here. :D

Cheers for clearing that up. Perhaps a smilie for sarcasm is needed.

  13. I was hoping that someone out there could help me out.  I want to get ahold of some teaching materials to improve my Thai gf's English. Any suggestions?  Any books or programs out there that seem to make learning English a little easier.  I will be teaching her one on one, so if there are any books or programs geared toward that type of learning....let me know. Thanks,  Mike

You may want to suss out her learning style first.

Some key points it would be good to know before recommending something:

Is this your idea or hers? If she isn't motivated to learn, you are facing a dire task.

How many years of school has she been through? If she only has a few years you may have to choose learning material that picks up where her schooling left off.

In general, when teaching, build up her vocabulary and center the learning around things she is genuinely interested in. For example, if she is crazy about power tools, then try to gear your lessons towards those.

    :o:D

Sorry. Had to laff at that.

    Cc

Do you yourself have any previous teaching experience?

Withnail has plenty of practical experience in teaching English, I am sure he has some suggestions for you.

  14. I have been stolen more than 1000 USD and a credit card in Thailand. In an organized way, by a gang, and it was not a single incident. Thus, I thought, interesting enough for the police to investigate - and to hurry with it as there were good chances to catch the thieves when I informed the police.

So I went to a police station for a report, just to be informed by a very relaxed policeman (who was flirting with a female 'customer' during most time of the talk) "that my case is not their duty" ( :D - the shop reliable for the theft was just around the corner..?!).

I was suggested to go to Tourist Police - they would take care about my case!

Went to Tourist Police. Was informed by a surprisingly engaged female officer that they have not the power anymore to investigate on their own (hoping for a change of law), for now I should go to Police Station XY instead, which would be the correct address for my case.

Well, what should I say - I went there! Just to be informed that they, too, can do: nothing!! The best was, I was told, that I should after all that, travel back to the end point of the bus route in which I was stolen the money ("yes sir, sorry, you have to do the 1400km trip again to make your report there!"  :o ) !!!! SH*T man, what kind of 'police' system is that here, in this country?, I asked myself.

There are always exceptions (as I noted above), but I have never seen such lazy and desinterested police officers like in Thailand. Thiefes and other criminals of all sort must have a VERY good life in Thailand. Just know the system and you can be 100% sure no one will ever (even try to) catch you.

I won't go so far to suppose that there are strong connections between organized criminality and the police in Thailand - but sometimes, at least, the idea comes up to the mind.

After these and a few other experiences that go in similar extents, I ask myself why someone could dream of settling here. I had such plans before but it seems to me that the better I learn to know this country, the more disappointed I am.

Just my 2 cents, of course, being quite disillusioned of this former 'Land of sunshine and smiles'

    Pepi

When my credit card got cloned. My first point of call was toursist police(can i say that :D ) Anyway they sent me off to Economic crime police on South Sathon Road. They asked for a copy of my bank statement then they could investigate. By the sounds of it, for me when I contacted my Bank in Oz I hand the money reinstated within 7 days. Didn't have to continue with police here. Think it happens quiet a bit so probably just be one more to their ever increasing workload. Don't forget these guys don't get paid a decent wage so why should they be in any hurry.

  15. How many internet forum members does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

1 to move it to the Lighting section

2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs

5 to flame the spell checkers

    3 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct

19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum

11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty

7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, just to add "Me too"

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again

    make that 3. LOL. :D:D:D

    :D

    Me too :o

  16. I don't see any reason why it's necessary to acknowledge other farangs in a different way from how we acknowledge -- or don't acknowledge -- Asians.  Just because they're skin is white?  I certainly don't feel any special camaraderie with someone just because they're the same race as I am.

    ditto.

I think you both missed the point. I think there was no reference to Asians because they are happy to say hello. I find I have no trouble with that. I think I try to at least say hi to a farang more so someone in a work outfit of sorts. Gee, whats wrong with being nice anyway. 17. I was reading last week that now in the states with the chearleaders they have banned the provocative moves.

Perhaps, they just need to act their age and have dance teachers that can teach them the appropriate moves. Not the pelvic thrusts and "doing a pole dance" moves.

    Cc

  18. You can try FLIX, RCA or also Liquid Lounge near Silom road. Both play Tech house.

I have two points of view on the topic. One from being a club and hotel owner in Adelaide and the other being a very good dj. I banned myself playing in my own club because it was not the direction that I wanted to go.

Techno music or rave = small market share

commercial music = big market share. Mwah ha ha ha. Thats how I made money.

I also made money by putting on Raves and club nights in venues that were suited to that style.

I love playing my music but it really has to be in the right environment. God forbid for example them playing it at say Gullies. That would kill the crowd.

    Nomad

Yes mate, this is the problem that so many face. I don't personally have a problem with the majority giving into the masses just as long as there are venues for those of us interested in better quality music. Some of the stuff they play at the more popular bars along RCA is shockingly bad. Think it made my beer go flat once.

I think I understand what you are trying to say but mmmm BETTER QUALITY MUSIC is a very misleading one. Again each to his own. Who is to say techno is better than d'n'b' or rave or old skool. I think some disco hits and funk from the 70's is REAL QUALITY MUSIC. The world needs to have all these different venues that can cater for the different styles. That is how I think it should be worded. IMHO. I know friends who use listen to "underground music" now D'n'B ain't underground. Hopefully, I'll catch your set sometime. I like technically good djs play and appreciate what they can do. However, a lot of people would have no idea that there were 2-3 records playing at the same time with bass or trebble cut. I think as time goes on things will change. I know from djing there are loads of train spotters now and thats fine. Its nice to get recognition from your peers even if it only other djs.

    Cheers

    Carl

  19. Lets see if I can remember all the questions that I intended to answer.

Firstly, yes its another shameless plug. :D:o

It use to be 9pm until midnight but now for a limited time and to introduce Thai Visa to this fine establishment they have stretched it from 7pm until midnight.

Its an ideal place to start the night.

To me 500bht is cheap I have been to Gullies and the Londoner and walked out 1500bht lighter and thats from drinking alone. :D

I will certainly confirm the exact drinks as soon as I speak to the owner again.

It is draft beer Heineken, bourbon , whiskey, vodka, wine, and as I say I will give the whole run down.

As for double pricing. Well, life isn't fair. Hairdressers charge women more than men. Some health clubs don't allow men to train the same time as women. So many things like that go on.

I will be there on Sat 2nd April for my wife and my going away party. Only going for 10 days but we are tying the knot again in Australia whilst on holiday there.

Hope to see some of you there.

    Cheers

    Carl
