Wot? No roosters? You're 'avin a larf.
Odd the things that some folks take as important from other folk's experiences.
The red stuff plastered all about is for Chinese New Year.
Wrong.....you obviously don't know Isaan.

Why not just stay home and rip
up 1,000 baht notes.

Just returned from the home village in Isaan
where there has been a spate of passings,
so the red shirts are out in force on the
gate post to ward off the evil spirits.
Used to think they were all Liverpool
supporters.

Seeing as you have already been stung

This one crops up quite often.
What the officer is saying do not
dip into the 400k until extensionl
is approved, you are, of course,
free to use any other funds in your
account.

They are a helpful and friendly bunch at Korat,
and if you get there early you will have
the place to yourself. Be aware that the
office is way out of town on Highway 224,
heading towards Chok Chai potteries.

Not so sure about police immediately closing all your bank accounts.
I've heard many times of the surviving spouse, where the bank accounts are joint savings account, set up so that only one signature is required for withdrawals*:
- Continuing to use the account and making withdrawals as needed.
- Slowly removing all the funds (one signature or ATM withdrawals) until the funds have all been removed, and placed into new account(s) in the spouse name.
* Years ago I asked K Bank call centre and UOB call centre about this (where the bank accounts are joint savings account, set up so that only one signature is required for withdrawals). *The answer was from both banks 'one of the two possible signatories is still alive and competent so that person can continue to make transactions'
Indeed, was referring to sole bank accounts, which most expats have
to hold funds for visa extensions.

The police close all bank accounts ? Really ? Does that include joint accounts ?
There is a current thread "Baht 800,000 when I die"
which gives a better explanation.

Im very sorry for your loss.
I will be cremated at my local temple when i leave this life.
It never crossed my mind about any red tape that may be involved.
I regularly attended the temple and help out when i can, but i imagine being Spanish that your wife would probably be Catholic?
If so, then it might be worth searching for and contacting your local church for advice.
There is always red tape involved. The police will have to be
informed who will immediately close all your bank accounts.
Then as a foreigner your embassy will need to be informed
with a duly completed form. This will then allow for your
mortal self to be released for a half day out at your
local temple.

It matters not when your extension or passport expires
you still need to do 90 day report, which will likely be
valid to expiry of old passport.
Then when you get new passport go to immigration
transfer stamps, get a new extension and reset the
90 day report......going to be a long day.

Always thought you could only rent rice paddy by
the rai at an annual rate
Now understand you can rent say five rai for
an up front payment of 150,00 baht and retain
the land until the owner wants it back at which
time he will repay the 150,000 baht.
Anyone gone this route and come across
any pitfalls. My sage of a mother-in-law says
it is worthwhile if you can keep the land
for several years.

still "live" in the UK.

Given that the heat and humidity here does not produce anything near a decent wine grape, this place (owned by some Thai billionaire elite) serves the illusion that Thailand has it's own "wine industry" that needs protection against evil foreign competition.
I think there are other vineyards scattered around Thailand doing the same thing. If any of them manage to produce anything of note, please update.
Agree, took a couple of Swiss friends on a wine tasting tour of winery
around khao Yai, they almost choked up on the samples.
My delicate palate, used to such "high quality" fare thought it was
a premuim product by Thai standards and indeed, almost drinkable.

Go past the turning for Immigration (on your left) and the BBK Bank branch is around 5kms further on, again on your left. Might be a bit further, but not much. I've been using it for the last 5 years and never had a problem.
Thanks, will give it a go.
If any problems be round to see you.

I come up from Pakchong too. I get my letter from the BBK Branch about 10 mins from the Imm Office in Korat. I try to get there for 8.30 and depending on queues I can be out of there before 9. So 9.15 is probably a good time to get there.
Good idea, but have always had concerns that if there is an
issue at the bank it will have been a wasted journey and need
to return another day.
Can you pinpoint the branch you use.

Thanks. My renewal is due end of Feb so I'll give it a go. As an aside, does anyone know if Korat still requires the Bank letter to be dated the same day as application? Bit of a pain as it means the earliest I can get there is near 9.30. Getting the letter the previous day would mean I'd have a fighting chance of getting out of there before lunch!
Luxury....Have to travel from Pak Chong, that means banging on the door of
BKK Bank at 830am sharp, out by 9am, then a 90 minute dash to Korat to arrive
10.30am.Can usually squeeze in just before lunch. Will try appointment next time.

They dont want the TM6 any longer
True..... But when I recently asked at immigration if I could
bin a TM6 collected when I last entered the country back in
2018, they at first said yes, then quickly changed their mind
and said it best to keep it, to match up with the computer record.
As with all things immigration, best to keep everything and throw
nothing away.

Like me, you are obviously a member of the ParanoidsRUs club.
Forget about renewal for now and get a new extension in your
old passport, you are only going to lose one month.
Then in the next few months renew your passport and get the
extension stamp transferred over, so you are good to go with
your 2025 extension.

Think you need to give it a rest, you seem to be confused in your own mind

Some confusion creeping in here.
During the course of a one year extension you may
become aware that your current passport will not be
valid to accept another full one year extension.
You therefore renew your passport and then go along
to your IO and ask them to transfer your current extension
to the new passport. You are then all set to go for a new
full one year extension.
