  1. Oh dear, here we go again.

Do NOT exceed the maximum pressure stated on the side-wall. Start off with the pressures recommended for your vehicle (look on the door pillar drivers side or in the handbook), a few pounds either way can do no serious harm if you find it improves handling or ride.

  2. If you have the same number of black and white wires then you probably don't have any borrows, but it's not guaranteed.

Thai sparks will grab any convenient neutral connection rather than (correctly) running a cable back to the box. It's when you disconnect that neutral that it can become live via the circuit sharing it.

  3. You should just be able to switch off the breaker for the circuit you are working on, IF that's IF the installation is done properly.

The fact that you've been getting bitten by neutrals suggests that you have a house full of 'borrowed neutrals'. These are quite capable of killing you!!

Borrowed neutrals are not normally a serious hazard to the regular user, it's sparkies who get to suffer. Unless you know exactly what you're doing I would just pull the main breaker before working on your electrics.

  4. Open the main incomer which should be double pole, this 'should' completely isolate you from the supply.

If you're getting tickles with the incomer open then you have a serious problem that needs professional investigation.

A bitey neutral also needs looking at, possibly an incorrectly configured MEN system.

  5. How old are the youngsters? Up to 14 (somebody please confirm that age) there is no overstay fine payable. If they are liable for a fine then simply rolling up at the airport with a 10 day overstay will net a 5000 Baht fine but no real hassle.

You can get a 7 day extension of a 30 day visa exemption by visiting your local immigration office, you will need to show outbound tickets, 1900 Baht.

Up to you to do the economics of it.

  6. One would surmise that the connections shown on that PEA drawing is the system of connection to earth electrodes on the distribution system. In that case they are buried.

The distribution system and the electrical installation have different requirements.

Nope, it's like that in the domestic installation document too and also specifies exothermic welding as the approved connection method.

Nothing wrong with the rod connection being below ground level, but it must remain accessible for maintenance and inspection so an earth pit with a lid (length of 3" PVC pipe) is wise.

  7. We Brits love to sit outside any time the weather is anything other than total white-out conditions (our Korean friends though we were all quite mad when we had a rooftop barbecue in temperatures of -10C), so I suppose it's natural to want lots of outside space when pretty well every day is suitable for sitting outside. The upstairs patio area gets a nice breeze off the river (ok sometimes it's more of a gale) so I anticipate lots of sitting under the brolly with tea or a beer for a good natter.

The pump is already fairly high (hence the difficulty of getting it to prime) but it's only held down by two bolts and now has proper service unions so moving it to higher ground (putting it on blocks) isn't going to be too much hassle. The floods are not of the 'flash' type, in fact last year was more like watching a slow motion train wreck so hopefully I won't be doing it when knee deep in water at 3AM :)

  8. Perhaps someone could enlighten me as to what this service offers that I can't get by connecting to the BBC / ITV / C4 player over my paid ($1 per week) VPN ?

The other (now defunct) service offered a read-ahead system that bridged over network glitches and brief outages along with a 5 day program and replay guide, it worked really well.
