  1. Remember a few years back a whole row of cottages in Wales blew up? Turned out to be an open supply neutral (bad joint) and the whole return current was going via a conveniently earthed GAS PIPE with a predictable result.
  2. Yeah ^^^, if another one goes fzzt I may replace it with a length of wire and add an external MCCB with nice solid 8mm screw terminals and lugs. Individual pack current rarely exceeds 60A, so I suspect it really was an inadequately torqued terminal.
  3. DC input max of your inverter is 600V and it has 3 MPPT inputs. Depends upon the panels but I would expect a 9S or 10S string of 500W panels on each input (1 input seems to be able to do 25A so 10S2P could work there). https://luxpowertek.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/LXP-LB-US-12k-user-manual.pdf
  4. Yes, and you get two chances to notice and abandon the transaction. The bigger places have the QR generator connected directly to the POS terminal so it's all automagic.
  5. This was in the first battery pack I built and at the time I didn't own a torque wrench. I did notice the MCB getting a "bit warm" on the thermal so I ordered a new one. But only when it arrived did I pull the pack!! It didn't seem to be "that warm" but it would seem that it was.
  6. Ah. The mega-consumers are indeed here!
  7. The days with PEA going negative are battery full days, there are a few. It doesn't take many dull days for the charge to gradually drift downwards to a level where I'm uncomfortable. Bright sunny mornings are offset by mega black cloud afternoons 😞 We've also got one 14kWh pack with what appears to be an iffy MCB so it doesn't charge/discharge properly, awaiting the arrival of a replacement MCB.
  8. That's because I manually set grid charge. The batteries were so low from the previous dull days that we weren't making it through the night. I'm experimenting with how the TOU settings work.
  9. Numbers for may 2025. We need some proper sunny days to avoid those PEA top-ups. Should get the last 3 panels on the chook house today. We areally are finished then ... maybe
  10. RIP Hotlips 😞 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-14766303/MASH-star-Loretta-Swit-dead-87-hot-lips.html
  11. High last night, hopefully this is the highest, for now. This morning at the Green House.
  12. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/3037806/bangkok-on-alert-as-flood-threat-grows-along-chao-phraya High this morning. Tonight will be the highest.
  13. That's not too far from the truth I'm afraid It does get tidied on occasion but after a while the gorilla gets in and throws everything about again ...
  14. This is actually our spare. It and its friend that's in the CU were actually bought in Shanghai when I was there a while back, the supplier was recommended by the company I was visiting. There are loads of similar units on Lazada for various prices, I would avoid the cheapest of the cheap! Note that these are about 1.5 units wide so a double will take up 3 DIN slots.
  15. If you can't use Google translate post a couple of photos of the tins 🙂
  16. Just looked at Sealect sandwich tuna in brine. States Net weight 165g Meat weight 124g. You should be able to use Google Lens/translate on your label.
  17. Why not install some decent protection on the incoming supply? The kit isn't exactly expensive 🙂 You can still unplug of course if things get really exciting. We also have those little baby ones all over including in each LED light fitting.
  18. Before we had solar we took a direct hit on the house, at the time we had no MOVs at all, killed a few things and blew off a couple of ridge tiles. We had a tree 20m away hit a couple of weeks back. Scared me s**tless!! No actual damage apart from one (unprotected) rs-485 receiver although the inverters did reset. We have a lot of MOV suppression mind. My main worry is actually nasties coming in on the grid, we have a 100kA MOV on the incoming supply and if there's a really close storm I flip the main breaker.
  19. No more so than having any other grounded metal structure such as you car-port or even your house roof. As you say, nothing is going to save you in the event of a direct strike. The issue is induced currents from nearby strikes which is exactly what the surge suppressors are there for.
  20. Looks great. Sadly not local to us 😞
  21. Miss Beatrice, the church organist, was in her eighties and had never been married. She was admired for sweetness and kindness to all. One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea. As he sat facing her old pump organ, the young minister noticed a cut-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water. In the water floated, of all things, a condom! When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat. The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist. "Miss Beatrice", he said, "I wonder if you would tell me about this?" pointing to the bowl. "Oh, yes" she replied, "isn't it wonderful? I was walking through the park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground. The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven't had the flu all winter!".
  22. I must try Shopee again, I had a bad experieince a couple of years back, although I didn't actually lose money getting a refund was like pulling teeth. Hopefully things have improved 🙂
  23. I don't really have a "favourite" store per-sé. Few places have everything anyway, to the point of having to buy nuts from one source and matching bolts from another 😞
  24. Yup. Not really complex. Hardest part was getting the old one out of the base (large hammer and wood block). Make sure you get the right length, although I got longer struts being a lanky (but fat) chap. I will say that they really don't last well with a fat-farang as a load, they start going down under load after a while A piece of 1" PVC pipe slips nicely over the top part and doesn't move. OK no adjustment but once set who needs to move it? Of course you could just do this anyway if you're a cheapskate (paint it black and no-one will ever know) 🙂 EDIT I've not seen a welded-in one and my chairs aren't exactly top class ones.
  25. Sometimes, but rarely on the larger panels, they tend to be included in small panels intended as battery maintainers or similar applications. The problem is that every time a diode is introduced into the circuit there's a volt-drop of around 0.8V (power schottky device). With 10 panels in series that's 8V that's not getting through (80W @ 10A). Some do advocate adding a single blocking diode to each string and they are also sometimes included in the combiner box. As always, there are many ways to skin a cat.
