  1. Any branch of Amorn should do the trick, IIRC there's one on the top floor of fortune.

You may not get the exact make of battery but they're standard sizes so one of the same size and capacity will do the trick :)

  2. I have been able to make my last 3 DVD players region free using a sequence of different buttons from google. I don't think this is illegal (so can be discussed on TV) as it is a function of the DVD player... and region locking is not a legal requirement, but an agreement between DVD manufacturers and Movie distributors...

Unlocking DVD players is like unlocking phones, a bit of a legal grey area. As such please do not discuss the specifics of how to remove the region lock from particular brands (there are plenty of other sites with that information).

Meanwhile, ALL the players I've bought here (even name brands) have been 'all-region' from new :)

I too would forgo the blu-ray unless you are heavily in to hi-def TV.

  3. A mate has managed to shoot a whole bunch (hundreds) of outdoor shots with his camera set for 'tungsten' white balance resulting in a 'orrible blue caste to the images.

I've fixed a couple using Photoshop with satisfactory results (he's shooting jpeg against my suggestion that RAW was best), anyone know of a way of automating this fix, it's going to take days to fix them by hand :)

  4. I don't know the exact junction that you are referring to, but if you crossed an unbroken white line you were indeed in the wrong :) The minibus you followed could have been a BMTC vehicle which seem to have their own set of rules.

Turning right can be a real bind anywhere in BKK, I've not come across anywhere on Petchaburi (except at lights) where this is permissable, particularly where plods are lurking in wait :D

  5. Oh Boo Hoo you had something that you knew not to take on a plane taken away from you! It is done for security.

We all have had this experience and the old "I have kids" thing...contrary to popular opinion does not give you free reign to do as you like on an airplane!

Some choice banter of passengers with brats "We need upgrade for more room"

"We have to sit all together, can not be across from each other on the aisle"

"What do you mean my unpaid brat does not get a 30KG baggage allowance?"

Your kids are annoying to everyone else on the plane, and you do not pay for their tickets.

Soooo, you were born fully grown eh?

READ the OP, it was not my 'brats' as you call them, they are my grandchildren, they are 6 months and 20 months and (as you would know if you'd ever had youngsters) at that age they cannot eat airline food (actually, sometimes I cannot eat airline food :) ). There are supposed to be concessions for young children, the rent-a-cops were out of order as the milk was in sealed manufacturers packs (which were replaced from an airside store, luckily). I cannot even think of the reasoning behind a dried cerial being confiscated.

As far as being a pain on the plane, both were apparently little angels the youngest sleeping for all but 2 hours of the trip. Their behaviour since they've been staying with us gives me no reason to disbelieve my daughter on this front.

No upgrade was expected or requested, check-in staff went out of their way to ensure the family were seated together without being asked, the sprogs got 10kg allowance each as clearly indicated on the Eva Air booking.

The kids did not travel free, they both travelled on infant (under 2 years) fares, the young one got a bulkhead bassinet the older one got a seat (not an entitlement as an infant, likely a spare as the flight was not full).

You sir, are an intolerant person (expletive for anal sphincter removed, I am after all a mod :D ).

Interestingly the 'liquid bomb' security aspect was only brought in more than a decade after the first (and only known) liquid bombing of an aircraft http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine_Airlines_Flight_434 (Philippine flight 434).

  6. Be careful!! If your tools are designed for 60Hz & you use them on 50Hz, you may be buying new tools sooner than you think.

    AGREED 100%!!!!!!

60Hz motors often have less iron in the cores (to cut costs), these will tend to overheat and possibly burn out, they will also likely run slow :) Unless you have something very special that is worth re-motoring I would sell them off at home and buy replacements here.

There is also the Thai wife/family issue, the plugs are the same and US kit does not like 220V :D Ever seen a 110V cylinder vacuum cleaner on 220V? Whittle jet engine look alike (including smoke and exhaust flames) :D

  7. I think Crossy meant that the use of RCD's with old equipment is problematic. I'm sure that he doesn't feel that RCD's are in any way a problem. :D

The issue I have with RCDing all circuits is that nuisance trips do still happen, and if it's your freezer that goes off whilst you're away........ let's just say it brings new meaning to 'opening a can of worms' :)

There are lots of problems in the UK with people upgrading to 17th Edition (all circuits RCD'd) with older appliances that have been just fine for years taking out the trip on leakage, owners are NOT happy 'it was ok until you came and installed that new box' :D

Provided you have a properly grounded system the attitude from the UK 16th Edition was perfect :D

  8. B5 is generally accepted as being acceptable in all engines, although some manufacturers still won't honour warranties on the fuel system if bio has been used :)

Talk to your local Ford outlet. We got a categoric yes for our 2006 Ranger (with the newer duratorque common-rail engine).

  9. Do you really want a step-up transformer??? Thailand is already 220V :)

Anyway, assuming you want to run your 110V appliances here then any mom and pop electrical shop will have small converters, for bigger ones you'll need to visit Amorn or similar, there is a big Amorn in Chinatown.

Ensure your converter has enough oomph to run your appliance, look at the Watts figure on the appliance and get a bigger transformer.

Much of the high-tech stuff (PCs, camera chargers etc) has universal power supplies that are happy on 110 and 220V, check the rating plate for '100-250V' :D
