The lease is required at some Immigration Offices, maybe they are now asking for it at HH also

Thai is how the process works, nothing to worry about

It wasn't the actual handing over the papers part that confused us but rather that she handed over the papers, thus continuing the processing without recieving the lease agreement...

  2. Hi all,

Hoping someone could shed some light as to what happend to me, my wife and son yesterday at the Hua Hin immigration office as, after 7 years in Thailand, this one rates in the category strange:

Firstly, me and my wife (out of experience) went there to recon last week and to collect all necessary forms and made all the copies needed for the "simple" tourist visa 30 day extention. When everything was collected and done I personally asked 2 different officers if this (the forms correctly written, one photo each, copies of the passports and 1900 b each) was all that is needed when handing in the extention... -Yes, sure (bloke nr.1)... -Yes, don't worry (bloke nr.2).

Yesterday we went after my sons school finished (as many here on the forum has recommended going afternoon) and arrived at 2.30 PM. Took a number, sat down and got our number called within 5 minutes. Now comes the "what the hell happened" part: As soon as the 3 of us sit down infront of the immigration lady she sais -Where is your lease contract for the house you've put down as your adress? -Ehhh, I reply? -Yes, you have to provide the original signed lease contract. How are we else to know this is your adress?

At this point (being quite used to situations like this) I mention that I was here a couple of days ago and no one mentioned this and I did not see this information printed on any of the forms I have filled in. -No matter, we need this lease contract. OK, so I scramble on the phone to my agent and tell her I need this faxed to me (even though it's not going to be the original which seems not important anymore) at the immigration office. She, whom of course is out showing houses at the moment, sais she needs 20 minutes making this happen. I tell the officer and she sais fine!

While we are waiting for the papers to come to their fax we notice she is actually starting to process all 3 of our passports (not in a rush) and after circa 20 minutes she tells us to take a seat in the waiting section and hands the paper and the cash to the girls handeling the change. OK then we think and me and my wife look a bit confused at each other but sit down and wait (still no papers has come in the fax).

Another (max) 5 minutes my name is called and I am handed all 3 of our passports which I look if the stamp is correct, which it is... sit down again, even more confused, and talk to my wife of our gameplan as the officer is now handeling new applicants. She walks over to the officer, nicly asks if everything is ok... the officer turns her head over to the fax machine (still no papers) and sais -All OK, you can leave.

    Anyone care to elaborate?!?

  3. We've gone Saturday morning around 8.  Seemed most vendors there.   Prachuap is 20+- minutes away if you decide to overnight it.  Nice little town if you haven't visited.

Thanks for the input. We'll be staying in Huay Yang which is roughly 30 kms away which makes this market a very nice morning excursion.

    Cheers

It is open every day but far more vendors and foot traffic on the weekends.

As with most all the markets many vendors are selling the same kinds of stuff but if you haven' t gone it is worth a visit IMO.

Many thanks, was planning on going next weekend which sounds good from your description. And yes, same things everywhere but like to soak up the atmosphere whenever we go driving around Thailand.

    Cheers

  5. Hi all,

If this topic should be in the central forum, please move it.

Have been going to wonderful Huay Yang evey other weekend and I stumbled upon information of a market called Dan Singh Khon which borders with Burma only 30 kms away. Sounds really cool and interessting and was hoping for some basic information in regards to when it's best to visit? As we are there on the weekends, is Saturday or Sunday morning the best time to go? Is the market open every day?

    Cheers!

  6. Believe that is a much improved road these days - used to be single lanes from turnoff from Hy 2 for most of the way to Chaiyaphum so a killer when trucks were crawling along.  North of Chaiyaphum was also two lanes but seemed to move better (less traffic).

Oh yeah, after the turn off to the 201 was not many kms left with single lane... wonderful!

  7. Where are the best places in and around Hua hin for Christmas dinner? I would like to book at a good hotel that does this.

    thanks

Are you looking for a country specific table eg. American, British, Oz, Scandinavian, German etc? Might help the people replying knowing in what direction to point you...

  8. We ended up driving the 637 kms (from Soi 70 Hua Hin to Ban Kaeng) non stop as it went better than expected; 6 h flat to the PPT opposite Big C Chaiyaphum and then 1 h 10 min the remaining 100 k's... And we also came in below budget this time around as I didn't get a single speeding ticket LOL!

  9. When we drive up to our plot of land in the sticks, we use one of several roadside/motel type resorts.
There are quite a few new ones springing up all the time.
Can't remember exact locations, as we just pull in when we see 1 that looks ok.
All have been new, clean and have everything you need. Cost around 400-600 baht.

We take the route 225, across from the 21 coming north from Bangkok.

Mate, is this road no. 21 you're indicating?

  10. It really sounds as if this is an overnight rest stop - not a search for a holiday week.  Expect easy access and perhaps on route he is taking are better than trying to find after arrival if nobody can provide a real experience in a low cost venue.

Actually I might consider making the drive 7 1/2 hours rather than six to avoid the overnight.   We used to drive to the Loei border area and overnight in Chum Phae.

Driving from Hua Hin and final destination is actually Chum Phae... have the wifes sister with us this time and she wanted stopping to se "Thailand" and we thought we give her that hardcore and decided upon Chaiyapum. But might just scrap the idea and drive on to final destination first day...

Thanks for all the input, will update if we stop and if so where we stayed and how it was.

  11. You are aware this is probably the poorest of the poor areas in Thailand?  Which does not equate to nice/cheap options as there is nobody to use them.  My overnight in about the best hotel was 3rd class at best and there was almost a gun fight in parking lot - don't expect too much or flowery reviews - this is not a tourist town.

Oh yeah, I'm well aware as my father lives just 1,5 h away and visit regurlarly. But there are allways hidden gems out there which I'm hoping people will know of... not talking about luxury or anything like that but, clean and friendly.

  12. Hi all,

Usually book thru one of the bigger hotel booking sites but in Chaiyaphum there is not that much avaliable and the ones that are do not come that highly recommended. Will be making a nightly stopover on the way up to my dad and was hoping for some good recommendations from you lot as a city the size as Chaiyaphum ought to have many nice options below 500 b/night. Please ad a google map pin of your recommendation which makes finding it after a 6 h drive so much easier.

    Cheers!

  13. Ok, update time then!

Before I spill the beans I will admit to be taken a little bit of guard (compared to the situation on Phuket) of the Hua Hin housing situation. Meaning up here it really is the sellers market. Me and the Mrs. have litterally driven into every single development south of Soi 112 and found less than a handful object in our range and all of them (as they were not via an agent) had serious owner issues we felt would most probably become a problem in regards to salvaging the deposit.

We then, after the first week of 450 km of scouting, started contacting several agents and here comes something taking us even more off guard; 9 out of 10 agents bloody didn't even get back to us (again, as opposed to Phuket you would be held by the end of all of your limbs and happy to be alive after they fought for your business)!

Finally we did find the most professional real estate firm who catered to our needs entirely and in less than 18 h of initial contact showed us several propertys (this is on Wendsday last week), one of which we signed the papers on 2 days later! I'm not sure about the "advertising" rules here on the forum but if someone wants to know what firm that helped us, send me a PM and I'll let you know.

Did we get everything we in the beginning was hoping for... no. Are we happy with what we got... yes!

The house, a large 2 bedroom (same size as most Thai 3 beds) with a 8 by 4 m pool is located high up on Soi 70 in a smallish project called Baan Mio (was called someting else before). Main reason for us wanting a 3 bed is that the bedrooms are usually so small that we wanted using the 3rd one as a play/toy room for our 8-year old but in this case we'll give him the master bed which is huge and will fit everything for him. I believe it's from 2012 or 2013 and has European type of inventory eg. built in oven, warm water washing mashine, central warm water heater, en suite bath in both bedrooms, full size (180 cm) beds in both rooms etc. Scandinavian owners = extremly well maintained; initially we thought it was brand new.

Location, which was our "main" concern due to the daily commute to Soi 89, is actually better than one would expect when you look at the map. I have scouted the times and in the morning, to avoid heavy traffic, I will be driving the backroads which take 16-19 minutes. On the way back, which is at 2 pm I will continue driving the main road (12 minutes) untill I notice the change to high season and will drive the backroads home as well. Drove from the Hilton at noon on Saturday and it took me 6 minutes.

Overall, we are feeling good with what we have signed the papers on. We managed negotiating down the price to 25 k/month.

Thanks for all the help here on Thaivisa!

    Cheers
