  1. Indian are the most harmless visitors I observe in Pattaya, but they are frequent victims of crime here.

I vitnessed a necless theft not long ago on Beach Rd, one of the three Indian guys had his gold chain snatched at around 1am near soi 13 in front of many people, and several Thais. No one lifted a finger, Thais were giggling and they were openly cheerful in all the excitement. The 3 Indian guys seemed flabbergasted, they didn't know what to do, standing on the street in disbelief.

So what happened this time, you seem to have theories?

Interesting comment. I lived in India for several years and Indian men in groups, whether boozed up or not certainly ain't harmless. Often what starts out as a night out, group of friends going somewhere, watching a sports match etc ends in punch ups - and usually between friends.

The Irish pub in Bangsar, Malaysia used to be run by a great Irish guy called Frank. His rule was if more than two Indian males came in together, or got together in a group, they were refused service and told to leave. He said they always ended up fighting each other.

Go to Singapore and see them drunk hanging round Orchard Towers as they don't seem to be allowed in the bars, it can feel quite threatening so there is usually a large police presence there keeping an eye on them.

    • The online system works well, did it for the first time 2 months ago and had the email confirmation back in about 5 mins. In Rayong there is never a long queue for the 90 day reporting but if you catch it wrong the visa renewal can be hours, it sounds like it takes the same amount of time to do 90 day reporting in CM as to get your visa renewal here. The biggest problem in Rayong is the location of the immigration office, it's right out in an industrial estate ( Map ta Phut), so it's expensive to do 90 day reporting for some people without transport or a long journey by songthaew.

You just need a PC and an internet connection, then play MMORPG! There are literately thousands out there and every variety one can think of. just google "MMORPG". some are even free, some are based on in-game purchases and some have a small monthly subscription fee.

I'm a pc gamer and there is a huge range of free to play games although some of them do try to push you to buy in game purchases by making your progress through the game slow. See the attached link for some idea of games available. You can also go the abandonware route and even though graphically these games might be years away from current games a lot of them are still very good to play. If you go the pc route be careful if you buy the knock off dvd's that can be found in most computer malls or markets, nearly every one I've bought have had viruses etc on them. The biggest problem with online pc gaming in Thailand is getting a good ping to the game servers, haven't been able to play my beloved battlefield due to having a minimum ping of about 300ms even though we have the 30mb fibre to home connection - sigh.

Nobody believes me when I tell them I am only here for the benign weather and the cheapness of "everything".

You cannot come here and totally ignore what goes on and not even try things out ! If you ain't done it, don't knock it.

I know a place that has a long sandy beach, very little neon night life, high end resorts, limited trashy malls, it is called Hua Hin......boring does not even begin to describe the atmosphere..... Give me Jomtien any day.

At least you can swim at HH.A beach you can't swim at because of pollution is a sad place.1986 was the last time i went in the water at Patts until a Bondi cigar floated by.Then moved around the corner to Jomtien but now that's stuffed. So down the coast i go.

You have to move a long way down the coast, past Ban Phe to Laem Mae Phim and surroundings as Rayong has a lot of industry on the coast.

I'll bet they'll call it a suicide unless of course they find cigarette butts on the scene.

The cause of death is pretty much sure and you make this comment, get a life.

"The cause of death is pretty much sure " ???

pretty much sure? It is jsut what the police claim

why are you spamming this topic with nonsense, high on whizz and can't sleep?

  5. Well, it looks like he dived into a swimming pool in the shallow end from the roof of a dj booth while drunk. I presume it was in the early hours when nearly everyone was in bed so no direct witnesses. When I was younger I smacked my head on the bottom a few times but from diving at a shallow angle and that hurt enough and made my head ring.

RIP Luke Miller, at least you had the chance to travel and see something of the world but still a waste.

  6. I live close to Hat Maerampung beach in Rayong and it's full of rubbish all year round from the fishing fleets dumping plastic rice ballast bags, sodium arc lamps, fluorescent tubes etc. We then have the weekend and holiday Bangkok crowd who plaster the beach in rubbish and the hordes of families in pick ups throwing rubbish out as they drive up & down the beach road.

It's not just a Thai problem, I have seen it in Turkey in national parks where the ground is covered plus the town where I grew up in, in the UK where drunken youngsters will throw their food wrappers away as they're unable to walk 1m to a rubbish bin and that's without the pavements caked in chewing gum.

Correct verdict? Obviously they know nothing of Thailand and what really goes on...try not to have disrespect for the family..but you might as well go back to sleep. You most likely condoned innocent people to a death sentence...can you live with both your siblings death and the death of the Myanmar fellows?

    What an outrageous post!!

So, you profess to know everything about what goes on in Thailand, do you? well David's family actually listened to a large amount of the evidence for and against the two and were privy to information you were not and made their own minds up based on this.

How can you condemn them for deciding that their verdict on the proceedings is incorrect, simply because it differs from "I am an expert on all things Thai" you!!

The defence knew that the DNA evidence was sound and Jonathon Head stated that the defence DIDN'T challenge this even though the court challenged them to. Now why would this be? I will leave that for you to work out.

You should retract your post as it is distasteful and a slur on the Miller family's integrity.

I agree with what your post is inferring Lucky but to say they were privy to information not available to us and made their own minds up based on this doesn't matter because the verdict is supposed to be based on what is presented in court. Also some posters on here are going way too far in some of the comments they are making about the victims families, they have responded to the verdict so just let them be.

That's one I've not heard. As a Chang drinker I should be permanently high.

There is a persistent rumour that it does contain formaldehyde as a preservative, but it's just that, a rumour.

    http://www.beer-faq.com/formaldehyde-beer/

    Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!

there is a way to test for this, I was shown this in India where in the past the cheap beers were full of it. fill a glass half full with water then put the neck of the beer bottle in to the water (upside down of course). if there's preservative it will drop to the bottom of the glass as it's denser than water & beer. the really shitty beers like black label etc used to have nearly half a glass of preservative in a pint bottle. once I was shown this trick I always poured away the preservative but it still didn't stop the chemical hangover, the last time I went back to the UK I got drunk on John Smith's & woke crying in the morning due to the hangover from hell. this is one area I would love the EU to enforce a law, the purity laws some European countries have.

as far as what the expats I drink with drink, it seems to be mostly Leo & Singha with Heineken & San Miguel next. there is an urban myth going around in Rayong that Chang classic will often exceed 10% alcohol and has been measured at over 12% and I find it too strong at the standard 7.5%. I really liked the Chang export & draught but after having a promotion for a while they seem to have disappeared off the supermarket shelves.

unfortunately, with suicide bombers ANY place is a soft spot basically. if it happens in pattaya or phuket it will cause major damage to thailand but don't underestimate russian intelligence who are present in those places too.

more likely it would be US or British intelligence who would give the heads up after all it was them who pointed out it was a bomb on the Russian plane flying out of Sharm.

How do so many foreign criminals flood into Thailand unnoticed ? And then often escape ? Makes one wonder how many thousands are hiding here.

    Are you really surprised?

Ever heard of the shooting in Paris etc.?

Was it resident saints who did that?

Read more news other than on TV to understand such stuff.

    Get a life, man!

well yes, apparently they were all European born

  11. I hope the British embassy is responsible for repatriating the body at their cost.

British embassy must have experienced tens of thousands of cases of tired and emotional British persons creating a commotion at the airport and have not developed a strategy and procedure for dealing with such incidents out of hours.

People should actually read the advice of the foreign office web pages and take note of what your embassy will and will not do for you, it's not a travel agency or pay day loan company. Adults should be responsible for their behaviour.

How ridiculous can be some people to think that a building could be built on this island without all the the legal requirements. As if the local would let them do what they couldn't do themselves !

There are 3 high rise condos built on Mae Ramphueng Beach, 1 unfinished derelict, the national park rules only allow building up to 5 stories high.....

A lot of the rules are being enforced strictly now about the use of land and some houses and restaurants have been torn down plus some bars closed although they turn a blind eye to the 3 wheeler traders selling alcohol close to where these bars were. Even Rayong Resort was told to remove it's pier although it looked like it was still there the other day so maybe has something to do with it's royal connections.

The only condo/resort I know of is called Pandora and is located outside of the NP (i.e turn right off the main jetty)... Farang developer.

I have a colleague who has bought one of these and I think the developer is Irish but as far as I am aware the whole island is a national park so it's caveat emptor, buyer beware.
