  1. I'm pretty sure the Berlin papers in 1942 had articles about the terrorist acts in France. And the Tokyo papers in 1937 detailed all the atrocities committed by the residents of Nanking.

We're getting one side of the story here.

It's hardly the same. The examples you quote were committed (allegedly) against invading forces.

Even if I bought your premise that the situation is different, I still stand by my point. We're getting only one side of the story.

From the articles, it appears to be random killings of innocent teachers. Maybe it is. I don't know. But history is full of examples where governments used teachers to rat out their kids and the kids' families, based only on what they hear when kids talk to each other. (The French called that "collaboration" and dealt with it in much the same manner).

And the Japanese were liberators, not an invading force. At least that's what the Tokyo newspapers claimed. Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere and all...

Maybe it is just a bunch of blood thirsty Muslims killing indiscriminately. But I spend quite a bit of time in Muslim sections of Southern Thailand and I have nothing but respect and warm feelings for the Muslims families I see just living their lives. Maybe that's blinded me, but I can't see these same people going on killing sprees for no good reason.

I'm thinking it would be refreshing to hear the other side(s) of the story, but I'm not holding my breath.

Nobody is claiming that all muslims are terrorists.... However, its strange how all terrorists no matter where it is in the world...... 'are muslims'.

  2. My advice is to buy a moderately sized cuddly toy... (moneys are very popular here and easy to find in all sizes).. Take it to one of many sewing machine clothes repairers on the street.. you see them all the time sat at their sewing machines, and have it converted to a glove puppet for a couple of hundred baht ... maximum. These guys are very talented, its not a complex job..... voiala.... monkey puppet.

  3. Hi.

I want to keep this first post short and basic, I will expand on things further in the thread.

Firstly I am not a teacher, but have a wealth of business knowledge and experience along with some cash.

My Thai family however have a very strong background in teaching and are very well connected in the industry.

They have been pushing the idea on me for about 3 years now of opening up an English language school, which I am now considering, but only at an exploratory level. meaning I will commence with creating a business plan. This requires a lot of spade work regarding legal obligations and a thorough costings exercise. I will only go with this as a purely logical business model. If the numbers don't stack up, it gets filed away in the 'bad ideas' cabinet.

I have been told that there is not a problem finding students here in Korat. I won't go into it now because I am confident that this is the case, will probably explain that one later.

I have spent all day reading through websites regarding the preparations for getting a premises licensed as a school, some conflicting that I will put down to the different dates of material out there. I was hoping that posting this on here, I could glean some helpful and up to date advice on the subject of setting up this mode of business.

I do have a few ideas of my own, but I think primarily with a business mind. A private language school is a business and should be approached as a business. The rest can be looked after by those who know the industry better than me. I do have some good resources at hand for just that.

All input is very welcome and please feel free to ask me questions which I will attempt to answer as best I can. Please... No slanderous comments about my wife and family or allegations of their intentions. (Just for trolls).

  4. Of course, this means total amnesty for the likes of the mad monk currently holed up in the US and anyone who has fled Thailand and the Thai justice system in the past.. Hmmm.

Maybe it won't extend to those parties.

I can remember when Poll Pot attempted to take advantage of his contrived pardon... how long did that last?..... 15 minutes??

  5. Yinglucks flood program not going as planned in south Phetchabun, spent all year building this and the first big rains punched two holes in it.

Sent from my i-mobile IQ 2 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

That is what you get from corruption.. not sure the democrats would have been less corrupt, but the government in charge is responsible for this and that is Pheu Thai. They are without a doubt the most corrupt government Thailand has seen especially if they get those huge loans passed through all other money ever stolen from Thailand by politicians will then pale in insignificance

You must be a mind reader... Because I have been saying this to the wife for weeks. I pray they don't get this 2 trillion thay have been asking for, because 70% at least will find its way into Swiss bank accounts... and a lot of it into Heir Thaksin's Dubai bank.

  6. Not sure, but that area was affected...

The closest picture to that district I have is this one. My wife said it is where you leave the bypass just before getting on the overpass and are turning left onto the road that leads to the back of Sima Thani hotel and mall area. But if my memory serves me right, that area got it bad in the 2011 floods.

  7. Well it would appear from the footage that Bodin is lying. He was definitely the aggressor and threw the first punch. I think as the other guy was running away across the other court he flicked his racket back to stop Bodin and it caught him on the ear. Both teams were disqualified so that really blew the entire tournament. Nice one Thailand! The two vids below are shot from slightly different angles with different commentary. The second one show a little more clearly what happened at the beginning and Bodin was not hit first.

Question....Why can't I get my youtube links to embed in the post anymore??

Post the link straight into the posting frame and not using the link box, if you choose the url link box, it will give the link out and not the content.

  8. This is a more thorough video showing the build up, and the one below shows afterwards after they learned of Thailand getting black carded from all future Canadian Open tournaments and probably a lot more other tournaments. Only the 4th time has a black carding been issued.

    Way to go Thailand.

The funny part for me was when the attacker made a public apology, he stated that he lost his head because the other guy hit him in the ear with his racquet, and yet the video clearly shows that the attacker hit the other guy with his racquet first. So they had to throw in a lie to add more insult to the incident.

I have to say that I am loving the amount of face he is losing through this.

  9. Thanks for the pictures thumbsup.gif however now in China so cannot view the other pictures you have (bookface banned hear whistling.gif )

Once again thank you, is this water coming down south or will it just run off some place blink.png

From here, the water always makes its way south.

I think this is the tail end of that big storm that hit China about 10 days ago, we usually get the depression come over here from the western Pacific storns that hit southeast China about a week later.

As I write this, the rain is pouring down outside, heavier than last night.

I was working right through the night last night, and the rain was from 10PM and stopped around 9am this morning with varying strengths through the night.

  10. mushy peas on toast 4 hours ago

I think that falls into the same category as my fish finger sarnies. I used to love brown sauce (Hammond's Chop Sauce) on toast as a kid.

I make my own bacon, hams and gammons, I have made my own pease pudding here, and I will next attempt to make my own stottie cakes.

Ham and pease pudding stotties. Maybe some members can fathom out where I was raised by that snack.

    Newcastle?

    Spot on.

  11. I personally fail to see where the equally necessary evidence is to support that this is a fabrication, Thai exaggeration, or whatever.

The OP did use the word 'apparently' and that it is what his wife told him, which means he has supported his side of the report. He wasn't alluding to anything else.

I did a quick google search, and although have not found the story, there are many others with real substantiated reports of actual 200,000 yaba pill drug busts in BKK. So I see no reason to suppose that this can't be an equally viable incident. 200,000 seems to be a common denominator, I suppose it must be a standard batch amount in the big league.

  12. I made the greatest if not healthiest sandwich on the planet....

    which is a Reuben sandwich.

It boggles my mind that these are not more popular around the world.

Are you in LOS? Where do you get corned beef like that? Can it be made from corning Thai beef?

I hadn't heard of a Reuben sandwich before. Looks delicious, I don't know if I agree with healthiest on the planet...lol

    I tubed it.

  14. Myself and every other long term expat here knows the correct Thai way to settle this matter. If the OP's family has even a fraction of the wealth he is alluding to, that is what would have been done. Regarding the ongoing discussion of business ownership, clearly this business is in the name of his wife.

Yes I agree with that too.

Normally Thai families with money suffer no problems.

  15. Take care that she cannot travel to the West and rip you off at Western courts. Manage everything in Thailand where you will at least be treated more fairly.

The western courts won't do a thing if the children and wife are Thai citizens. They can only pick up cases involving the citizens of their own country.

I am pretty sure about that. Well, as far as the UK is concerned anyway.

  16. Seems this guy has done all he is going to do. You say he hired a guy to beat up your 70+ FIL, then ended up dying of 'natural causes'? So I think the guy next door already has got the message... If I am assuming 'natural causes' in the right context.

Really, not long after beating up the father of my wife (who is the most calm and polite guy I've ever met) the one that did it got cancer and died shortly after that. So we were not involved, but we really had a small party.

    Ah right... I see now.

I got confused by the way you laid out the sentence....

The guy that beat him up died (of natural causes) and we had a party that day. Since then things have been quiet and there were not much problems.

I thought you may have been intimating towards 'organized natural causes'....lol

You could always get someone to leak out some rumour that a friend of your FIL got the old hag on the hill who mixes up potions for all kinds of joob joob inducing spells to sort of afflict the guy with cancer.... I am sure you are more than aware that many would believe it. smileys-witches-640502.gif
