  1. I want to explore the possibilities of importing my car from the US. I am looking for a contact merely in Thailand that can walk me through the process.

Before you comment about how it's not worth doing it or it's too much of a headache...thank you, I have heard/read this on many forums etc... I know.

Just wondering where/who to contact so as I don't explore this alone.

    Thanks.

As you mentioned, you have done your homework in regards to importing used cars. I wish you good luck and you might want to try Fair & Easy in Bangkok. They are importing/exporting cars for different organizations. They might give you the same advise then a lot of others here on the forum, but you can try.

  2. You actually could do this yourself. All the information is available through the internet side of a Hong Kong. They will need to have a declaration to marry signed by you or your girlfriend with the intention to marry. This needs to be certified by a notarized public in Thailand and then with you and your girlfriends passport copy to be send to Hong Kong. Do not forget a bank draft in the correct amount to be send together with the documents. After a waiting period of app. 5 weeks are you able to set an appointment with the registrar in Hing King, whom will marry you. You will need two witnesses. Afterwards you need to bring the marriage license to your and the Laotian embassy to get them certified. Please make sure beforehand that Laos is recognizing the "Haguer apostille", which you will receive. If jot, the marriage will most likely not be legal under law in Laos. It should be recognized in other countries but not sure.

Hope this helps. If you need a link let me know and once I am at my computer in a few days I will be able to send it to you.

  3. Yes can be done and should not be an issue as long as your wife agrees.

I am not married either but our child has my last name, I am registered as the father on the birth certificate. The house registration does not mention you as the father but neither the mother. According to what I know it is only to register where the person is living. I might be wrong about this.

  4. If you get married it will be possible to have it legalized in Germany. This is due to the "Haguer apostille" which both countries signed. Therefore all legal acts, e.g. Marriages will be legalized by the German state. In this case you do not need to get the "Ledigkeitsbescheinigung" at the "Standesamt" in Germany. Friends of mine got already married in Hong Kong according to their law and it has been accepted. I will be there in October for mine.
  5. Thera is no easy and fast solution for Germans. To get this certificate you will need to have a few more documents ready and translated. Not only from yourself but as well from your girlfriend. First she need to have the certificate that she is single. That she will get at the Amphoe where she is registered. This will need to be translated together with her birth certificate and tabien baan. Once this is translated you will need to get it legalized by the Embassy in Bangkok. After legalization you will need to send it to the "Standesamt" in Germany where you are registered. You will need to do this with an original birth certificate. They will then issue you a "Ledigkeitsbescheinigung" which you need to get the affidavit to marry from the German Embassy.
Easier way would be to register and get married in Hong Kong. No documentation needed. Just send in the request to get married together with the check. 20-45 days later you can go to Hong Kong and get married within 5 days.

Thanks for your post! If we get married in Hong Kong can i still obtain a non O visa based on marriage in thailand?

You should be able too once it is recognized in Thailand. As far as I am aware it will be certified by the Thai embassy in Hong Kong. Afterwards you will need to get it registered in Thailand. Not sure about that process though.

  7. Why does this myth that having a Non Immigrant visa entitles anyone to duty free import continue to be posted here at Thai Visa ?

If you didn't get charged then you got lucky, simple, had nothing to do with what type of visa you had. If you imported via a shipping company and you were charged a much smaller amount than you estimated and you didn't receive a receipt then you paid "tea money"

Only returning Thais who are overseas on an employment contract are entitled to duty free importation of their household goods and even that has restrictions

I would not say that it is a myth. You mind find this useful: http://www.customs.go.th/wps/wcm/connect/custen/individuals/importing+used+or+secondhand+household+effects/importingusedsecondhandhouseholdeffects+

  8. I would send it via post if you do not need them urgently. With a forwarder you will incur export and import clearance fees which easily alone can result in 300-400USD. Usually you would as well be hit by customs charges, except you have a work permit and it would be your first import. Other option would be excess baggage. Depending on the airline it might turn out cheaper as some have a fixed fee.

  9. For the one or other interested. I went there today. The owner K. Joke, a very nice guy, gave me the choice and I could have tried out all in my car, after he installed the base. The boxes are imported from Taiwan and it seems to be a really good quality. Installation took about 30min. The place is a bit hard to find and is basically his own house. As stated very good and efficient service for a fraction of the price asked by Thule for the same kind of system.

  10. Thank you all for your helpful answers. I found a Thai manufacturer who has provided me with a price of THB 22.000 for a 179*84*43cm box including bars and installation. It seems like a design copy of Thule. I think perfect for what I need and stroller plus a bag fits nicely.

Do you mind sharing .... :)

Not at all. The company is located in Samut Prakan. Internet site only in Thai www.roofboxthai.com. I am going to have mine installed tomorrow and can give feedback afterwards if interested.

  11. I remember that you open a different topic for the same case. Might have been useful to leave it there. As many have mentioned it is a hit and miss. The supplements you ordered, as all supplements, require a FDA license. This to acquire is not easy. I think the best way to move forward is to call or go to the airport customs with somebody Thai speaking and try to clear the package directly without involving FedEx. FedEx is known for clearing according to law for all their items. Therefore you will not receive any assistants from them. By going to the customs and pleading your case you might have a chance to get it out by paying a small fine and the duties and taxes for the import.

To find a customs broker with the right relations to customs might be hard to come by.

As mentioned by others do sign or agree verbally to clear, destroy or abandon your shipment. This will force FedEx to keep it in their possession. Not forever but quite a long time.

This will give you some room to try and clear it yourself.

FDA itself will most likely not be helpful in this case either as they will want to receive samples for testing, etc. way to expensive and time wasting and will cost app. THB 30.000 onwards so that you might be able to receive a license under a company name.

Sorry to say but try it yourself and if no luck with that you might really want to consider abandoning.

  12. Have your work permit and visa done beforehand. Once done you can save.y import but make sure that TNT staff knows it is personal belongings because not every company is willing to organize or ship.

This is usually due to the different liability between commercial and personal goods.

Otherwise make sure you are not packing original boxes and cartons as this can raise suspicion with customs and you might get hit with duties.

  13. Thank you for moving CharlieH. I am living in the Eastern Seaboard Region but would be able to pick up from anywhere. That is why I did not state a specific region. I forgot though to mention I am looking to install it on my Honda City. Due to the CNG tank I am not able to get my baby's stroller in the car. And yes if I would have known that before I might have considered a different car, but car came before baby. :-)
