  1. Maybe an idea. Does your friend has any open Wi - Fi around like Truemove, 3bb, dtac or from ais? Usually they are around Chula and major roads. Their Wi - Fi is about 100 THB per month unlimited. I am using True Wi - Fi and pay 100 THB. The system will automatically recognize my mobile phone and I pad. I have to lock myself in with my computer though. Advantage is, that I am able to use all the Wi - Fi Hotspots throughout Thailand. No restrictions on speed at any time. Maybe worth to check that out.

  2. As far as I know you will need to present a reservation. Every travel agency will give you a reservation without the need to purchase right away. Usually they will tell you the latest issuing date and or you will forfeit the reservation. Usually this is not possible if you book online. Did that a lot of times to reserve but changed on the issuing date for one or the other reason.

  3. All shipments with DHL, UPS and FedEx are subject to duty and taxes. You are allowed to bring in staff with a value of up to THB1000 without duties and taxes payment (might have changed already). For a mobile phone expect to pay. Half a year ago I have shipped the new iPhone from Singapore with a value of only SGD 400 on invoice and documentation. Had to pay THB1700 for duties and taxes.

  5. I am not aware that this is possible or that such kind of router exist. Both of the sticks are running on different networks so you would only get 384kbs per stick. You might be able to combine them to get the most out of 384kbs but you would not be able to double the speed as they are still independent units. Even if the router is able to direct the traffic to both of the sticks the throughput of both sticks remain the same and you would not be able to achieve a faster speed.

  7. To do it properly you should register a co ltd.. To get an import and export license, which allow you foreign trading you will need to be vat registered. Depending on the items you would like to import/export you might need as well specific licenses for that. To avoid any issues down the line with personal property, etc. would be to setup an co. Ltd. anyway as that will protect you from any regress from 3rd parties. Not from the government though. You would be able to compare it with a Pte. Ltd. In Singapore. Be aware that Thailand is more restricted in trading and account handling then Singapore. I would recommend you to speak to a good lawyer. To setup a company with proper registration and documents/agreements will cost around THB 100.000 and will avoid long term pain. I have known a few which tried the route without and had to pay a lot more in the long term to get it back on track. I can recommend JNP Legal. Jnplegalthailand.com but would advise you to sit down with a few lawyers and discuss the pricing and different options. They might be able to assist as well in getting you the different licenses.

  8. Airaisia is offering check-in via machine for domestic travel. They are located in front of the normal check in counters and behind the security screening (in the aisle a bit in the back). Not really visible from the outside. You will need the itinerary number to do the check in. If she is afraid of doing any of this, then I would recommend the counter. Usually Airasia has as well a fast check in counter for people without luggage. At least they had the last time I checked in.

  9. Depending in she signal you might be able to just get a wifi router and set it up as a repeater. I have used the wall sockets through electricity but, at least in my apartment, was not the best choice. There are routers with a better signal strength like Linksys or Belkin but they will not be of much use if the walls are blocking the system. You might want to try out a 5GHz wifi router. They might work better in your apartment. The signal is usually a bit stronger but has not such a long range. I am sure that you will receive more competent answers in a while from others.

  10. I would be careful. I have heard from a few friends of mine, who have their own company, that immigration is checking the work place and employee desks for start ups more carefully nowadays. Especially in Bangkok.

You will need to have 8 employees and 4 million registered capital for 2 work permits. Furthermore, if the lawyer you spoke too, would be really professional and there to help you, he would not advise you to just have the employees on paper. In regards to the capital you should be ready to pay at least 25% down. It is correct that it would not be necessary but in the eyes of immigration, labour department and tax department it would look more legit. I considered to setup my own company but the running costs, with office space, accountant, social security payment, etc. stopped me at the last minute.

Hope you have considered all of these requirements and costs. You can setup a company without any lawyer but, especially if you partner up, I would advise against it. You should have a good and legit shareholder agreement to avoid any issues down the line. A good lawyer would cost app. THB 80.000 to 100.000 included the setup fees and the payment for registered capital. I would not skip that to reduce costs in the short run as it will increase the risk to pay more in the long run.

    Just my two cents worth.

  11. Wifey has a two year old car which she loves ! It's low Ks and has been well looked after. We are heading to live in Thailand and now she wants me to look at putting the car into a container and shipping it to BKK !

She seems to think that this will be about the same cost as selling it (and losing money) and trying to buy something decent in Thailand.

I have no idea about the costs and difficulties in shipping a car to Thailand so I thought I would see if there were anyone in Thai visa world who has done this or advises against it !

Apprecuate the help and thanking you all in advance !

Is your wife Thai? If yes she should be able to bring her used car to Thailand. Still there will be duties and taxes implied but usually lower and you will need to get the appropriate licenses. I would check with a reliable forwarder with experience in importing cars.

If both of you are non Thais, then I would forget about it as the applying and receiving of import license is almost impossible.

  12. Thank you for the tips. We have visited Phyathai and my wife has felt good and save. Therefore we will go with them. Counting in the checkups and visits before birth it will cost most likely something like 100.000-120.000 THB without complication.

  13. Depending on where you are located. Swarovski has a few stores throughout Thailand. In Bangkok it is in Siam. I am not sure though if they sell you stones directly. Otherwise you might have a chance if you contact their headquarter in Bangkok. It is at Silom road.

  14. Does anyone know a good hospital in Sriracha to give birth. My wife is 3 month pregnant and we are now looking for a reasonable priced but good hospital in Sriracha to have all her further checkups and tests, as well as to give birth. Pattaya might as well be an option as we are living in the middle between both cities. Any experience and guidance of pricing is appreciated. Especially as it is our first one.
