"The injured suspect had been trying safely to dispose of one device when it fell to the ground and detonated on the street, Kittipong added."
I always take one for the road when I'm fleeing a burning building.

I like the part where the first guy keeps repeating the argument;
Nobody could possibly know whether Lincoln was gay therefore Lincoln definitely wasn't gay.
Then the other guy calmly and logically rebukes him, and then the first guy just says it again for 3 pages while other people chime in periodically with the same basic argument.
The fact that he was married with children is pretty good evidence he wasn't gay. The fact that he shared a bed with his friend with whom he was affectionate in a manner that we, today, would think of as more than friendly is fair evidence that maybe he was.
I kinda hope he was. Would make the history that much more more interesting.

When was this photo taken?
I see the police have taken over the scene and already had time to mark off the bike on the street, yet this person was laying in the street bleeding with no apparent assistance.
I saw a neighbor get taken out when a gas compressor exploded in his face, within the first month of moving BKK. Nobody, not even his friends, had any sense of urgency about it. I almost felt embarrassed that I had been running around giving compression instructions to someone on the scene and orchestrating a pickup truck ride to the hospital and generally acting like the closest thing to a paramedic there. Seriously. Embarrassed, like I had acted too frantically. The guy died right there in front of my office door. We all just went back to work after that.
Early Lesson: Don't come to Thailand unless you're somewhat comfortable with the idea that you might bleed out on the street in a tropical land.
Mai Penlai, dude.

I'm sure anyone living alone here has had this thought before.
How long would it be before someone knocked on my door looking for me.
I'm active online, I have work every morning, and the girl I'm dating would expect a call sooner or later... but how long until someone physically knocked on my door. That's a little frightening.
That reminds me, I nee to make more friends in Bangkok. Heh.

I've gotten in the habit of just getting in and sitting down before I state my destination. That works sometimes. Yesterday, for the first time, I found a cab that had the doors locked. The driver simply reached back to roll down the window before waving me off and driving away.
It's criminal.
They benefit from being licensed, but refuse their responsibilities for fair service.
Just another layer of corruption in the system.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is defending the rights of U.S. citizens, specifically the rights enumerated in the Second Amendment of our Bill of Rights. I will not surrender my rights because of the actions of a mentally deranged criminal. For decades now the liberals have proceeded with their efforts to "mainstream" mentally ill persons and, in some cases, prevent the mandatory medication such persons when medical professionals have prescribed such medication as necessary. This, and multiple other liberal policies, have much more to do with these tragic incidents than gun ownership.
See kids, if the gun nuts could just stick with factual arguments without going off on an ant-"liberal" (whatever that word means) conspiracy rant maybe they'd have a little more credibility.
I lean liberal, but not on the Second Amendment. I support balanced gun rights.
I have my own reasons. But it sure as hell isn't a blind allegiance to the party or some ridiculous pseudo-intellectual circular reasoning: They don't want us to have guns, therefore we need guns, and also they're evil.
Use your own heads. Don't base your argument on conspiracy fantasies.

Humans are omnivores and dogs are made of meat.
Meat consumption and cruelty to the animal are not synonymous.
If people want to eat dogs, go for it. Just regulate it like you would any other livestock.
[don't get me wrong; I think that sucks, but there's no objective reason why it should be categorically banned]

This happened to a good friend of mine last year. No bueno.

I've been to his show in the States. You get a contact high, or you leave. Those are your options.

Technically, a shootout is between two or more people firing at one another.
That subtle distinction was beyond the high quality writing of the Coconuts News...
Oh, I wasn't criticizing. I was just pointing it out.
Far be it from me to criticize the subtle wrinkles in an English-language story written by a Thai journalist when I don't even speak their language properly.

Qualifications of an applicant:
1. An applicant must have received permission for yearly stays in Thailand on a non-immigrant visa for at least of three years prior to the submission of an application for permanent residency. Holders of multiple NON-Immigrant visas can not apply. You must have 3 un-broken yearly extensions in order to qualify.2. An applicant must be holding a non-immigrant visa at the time of submitting an application."Say what now? -
Maybe it's the media I take in, or my cracker face, but Pattaya still comes across as a more dangerous place for me to walk around at night.
Then again, I've never had a Thai person so much as look at me crossly. All of this stuff gets filtered through local media before it reaches my ears. Interesting.

Coulda been worse. He... uh.. no. No it probably couldn't be worse.
Released from a nightmare dungeon and sent to state prison.
Well played, China.

I'll be applying for a credit card with my bank, Kasikorn, soon.
I'm wondering if anyone has experience with credit cards through K-bank.
Specifically if you can recommend which card to go with.
Travel insurance and airline miles would be great perks, but I can't really see any clear difference between the cards on those items.
Thanks very much

As a matter of principle- all things being equal- I would take a corrupt elected government over a junta every time.

Police are attempting to deny people their right to demonstrate disapproval of their "elected" government.
Glad to see they can appreciate irony.
You've got a long, long way to go, Thailand.

Never, ever, fails:
They find a scene, speculate based on visual clues, and post it for the public to read as if there had been an investigation.
Oh, and of the very few facts they ever include, at least 2 will contradict each other. (pick-pocketed, but had a wallet full of cash)
At least they're consistent.

Is it really so common to buy your way out of a situation like that or is this just expat hyperbole?

A friend in the States hit me up with the same idea, actually. Wanted to know if those tests could be sourced in Thailand.
I wonder what the charge is.
One would think that information would be the entire point of writing the article. =\

My cynicism will not allow me to believe there is a legitimate reason for anyone, anywhere, to have that much cash on them.
Hope I'm wrong and they just had good Karma working for them.

Good article. To me it seemed to have a few flawed readings on the US system. But it's still nice to read something like this inside Thailand.
I would say this whole "enemies within" idea has to go. If everyone always agreed we wouldn't need an election, now would we?
You can have political rivals and you can enemies of Democracy- but political foe and enemy of the state are two very different things.
-
The US is a Representative Democracy, not a Republic.
The only kink in that definition is the Electoral College- which is a weird and flawed invention- but still doesn't take us out of By The People territory.
