  1. JAIL for LIFE ... that's what he deserves.

Surely that should be decided following the Guilty verdict not before it.

I can think of another name that rhymes with Bangkokrick. The guy admitted to killing the man; there is video footage of him searching for a knife; it was not to peel a spud it was because the Puxxy lost his fight. He done it with intent, it is that simple and deserves life. Unless he pays his way out of this this will be the judgement plain and simple - even with the vastly corrupt justice system.

bah. I'm pretty sure that whole payoff thing only works when the offended is Thai, and before the courts get involved.

This is two farang. It's all about showing a good face to the world on this one.

I expect it'll be as up and up as they can muster.

  2. I assume the embassy is different.
But when I went to the consulate on Penang, I didn't see any Thais working there at all.
It seemed to be staffed entirely by Malaysians.

I mean, I have no idea whether or not Thais hold the keys to those stamps, but I can imagine it 's just as likely that Thai people had no part in this. We are talking about Muslim travelers receiving stolen stamps in a Muslim country, after all.

  3. Censorship here is jive, dude.
I don't know what it is that they're looking for, but I've noticed I can google some fairly common terms and randomly turn up some real shady- you wouldn't see this in the States- type results.

One gets the feeling that the internet censorship has a lot in common with the bib; You see them. You know they're there. But they don't seem to do a whole hell of a lot... not that I'm complaining about the ineptitude of censors.

  4. Relative to Thai women. you have nothing to offer.

Why are the wisest answers always the shortest ones? thumbsup.gif alt=thumbsup.gif width=25 height=19> Well done, Markaew, well done!!!!

Racist and sexist at the same time.

    That's almost impressive.

And there are more than one of you!

Congratulations, fellas. I'm actually happy you two found each other.

Maybe you guys can meet up for deep philosophical discussions on the evils of women's suffrage, the nature of the White man's superiority in the world and, like, ya know, how women are icky.

Just keep it to yourselves. You're embarrassing the rest of us.

  5. Seems this piece omitted the most obvious and undeniably greatest factor in the hunt for farang/farang love: statistics.
Exactly how large is the expat community here?
No doubt in my mind that I'd be happy for the opportunity to spend some time commiserating with fellow westerner... if I could find one. Unfortunately, there are only about 3 or 4 of you in the entire city, as far as I can tell. I donlt seem to cross paths with too many in my day to day. Another problem is differentiating the expats from the tourist. Because, really, who has time to chat up every blonde just to get a feel for her visa status?

Then there's that eye-contact expat dodge thing that I see way, way too often here: When you pass a fellow westerner on the street, especially away from the city center and tourist areas- and instead of a smile or a nod in solidarity, you get navel gazers. Am I the only one that experiences that? I dunno. It's weird.

And then there's the other elephant in the room: Why doesn't this woman take a page out of the farang man's handbook and Try-Dating-Thai people. They're quite good companions, ya know.

I dunno. I've heard a couple of farang ladies speak on this subject online. None have yet really made me understand what the big deal is.

5 proper dates and an arm full of flings.
Were you doing better back home? wink.png

  6. Reading the travel warnings from their goverment?
Have you seen the US travel warnings? I'll paraphrase; "Never leave the US or you will die".

I'm not one to rag on Phuket or Pattaya for being the Wild East. I'm all for it. But that is because I happen to be the kind of foreigner that does have a little street smarts about him. The trouble is; The ministry of tourism isn't marketing to people with "street smarts". And they're not warning people to bring their street game. They're marketing to midwest americans and middle class australians and geriatric europeans and all manner of people that want to pour firewater down the gullet and wander around drunk in the night.

I'm not saying they have any particular responsibility to tell people to do their own research when they're traveling. But let's not pretend Phuket isn't a particularly dangerous place for tourists, relative to many other spots in Thailand- because it is. And Thailand would be smart to take into consideration the reputation that these places are building int the West.
