Chlorine does not kill COVID on contact:

To effectively kill the virus, make sure the surface stays wet with the disinfectant for at least 10 minutes before wiping with a clean towel. If an EPA registered disinfectant is not available a 2% chlorine bleach solution can be used.

Chlorine in swimming pool water is measured in single digit parts per million.

There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas, or water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water.  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/water.html

  2. I am not complaining about local business and their employees getting buy with basic English to serve their foreign customers. Matter of fact I applaud them for giving it their best! What annoys me are the more official mistranslated signs, news, documents, etc. Big restaurants' expensive menus that are full of spelling mistakes. Stuff distributed by the kids school. All the way to shopping centers wishing you a Mary Christmas to shops that are close (...by I assume)...

  3. Only time will tell how things are going to be implemented.

For me it seems that something will be better than previously. I am not receiving a pension in Germany nor do I generate any other income there. Hence I never could have gotten an income letter anyway.

I do however transfer more then the required amounts monthly from abroad to my Thai account. So if K-Bank can provide a 12 month statement showing that, I could easily skip the current method of keeping lots of funds in my account for the three months aging. That would be a good thing, no?

  4. I am just in the middle of dealing with Local DHL and Amazon.com.  Got a package ordered with a value over 40K, a computer tablet I need, but unavailable in Thailand.

Anyway, I chose GlobalPriority shipping, prepaid the import taxes etc.

    Item(s) Subtotal:    EUR 1.183,51
    Shipping & Handling:    EUR 37,89

    Import Fees Deposit    EUR 92,88
    Total before tax:    EUR 1.314,28
    Sales Tax:    EUR 0,00

Of course the package got held up in customs. Then DHL contacts me and wants my to chose how I wish to pay "clearance fee+ import Tax+ Vat".... I told them that it is prepaid and please contact sender.

Now they want my original passport, because I have to obtain an import license etc... <deleted> is that.

    Here is their message:

"This case you not  have to pay anything  because all activity in thailand will be charge to sender only .
But receiver have to support document for clearance only.
I will inform you about your shipment has detain by thai customs at suvarnabhumi airport Because the value your product over 40,000 THB. If value the product over 40,000 THB you have to registration import license with thai customs first .
So about process registration import license you have to provide original passport for registration import license of thai customs first. If import license complete already we will start process clearance for you , sir
If you can’t provide original passport we can’t clearance this shipment for delivery to you."

What do I do with that message.... Decided to ask them and still wait for an answer.

  5. Ship or bring just irreplaceable items, such as photo albums, memorabilia, books maybe,  things that have other than commercial value to you.

Everything else better to buy new here. This way you are sure it is the correct thing, working in Thailand. I think overall you could save some money, plus end up with nice new stuff...

My mother, bless her, shipped her entire household here, including a 12 year old microwave. For whatever reason we ended up paying import tax on that item and that was more than a new one would have cost here.  For what its worth, that old microwave is still functioning ....  but annoyingly aged at now 20 years old.

  6. well hard to have a discussion if you dont give reasons. thailand has provided a visa for everyone. a great retirement visa for over 50 year olds and a cheap 5 year visa for self funded under 50 year olds. hard to argue with those facts.

Been not following the whole topic, so please excuse if I repeat what may have been said before.
I would not argue with above post, just would like to mention the differences in having a visa and permanent residency. As resident you have numerous benefits, that dont come with visas. Even visa holders can be denied entry at the discretion of the immigration officer. There is no appeal process.
As resident you should not need to report to immigration frequently.
