  1. I can see this may take a while - or even be beyond you. So, let's take the example of a transfer of £1,500 which in your case starts off by costing you £1,504. I am using Kasikorn so they receive £1,500 which they convert 44.003 (9th update today - source:- http://bankexchangerates.daytodaydata.net/default.aspx) That is 66,004 Baht from which they deduct 326 Baht being their 0.25% min 200, 20 Baht to transfer it out of Bangkok and a 0.1% charge for goodness knows what....... net amount received 65,618 Baht. With WISE, £1,504 less fees £9.24 = £1,494.76 remitted at 44.4075 = 66,378.55 Baht ...............or, 760 Baht than you received - Oh, and my money arrived in 6 seconds. Try it on 1 million Baht ....... the difference is £96 in favour of the WISE transfer. (the thread is about WISE fees versus banks).
  2. You know nothing.........post it up - using my 65k per month transfer
  3. It doesn't matter how low the fee goes if the exchange rate is inferior. A SWIFT transfer is NEVER cheaper via a bank compared to ANY amount (obviously use the 2m Baht cap with WISE if comparing Baht) - please find me an example if you think I am wrong. I will repeat again, as a retired HSBC employee I do not pay ANY charges for international transfers. It is still more cost-effective for me to use WISE.
  4. Absolutely right. That is why WISE's favourable exchange rates always put them on top when when comparing the costs of normal bank transfers.
  5. I found the standard Ayam beans a little to sweet; their low sugar version is my preferred taste.
  6. Confirmed re UK address. When setting up Government Gateway for a friend recently I resorted to trying his last known UK address.
  7. Jomtien are known for being user friendly but I would be disappointed if I had been singled out for special treatment! In fairness the guy at window 8 is pretty efficient and I have never really had a problems - minor issues with rule changes or an extra copy of this or that. He knew exactly what he wanted from Kasikorn and gave me a specimen form to take away.......I don't know if it is different for other banks.
  8. Have you not read my earlier replies. Jomtien Immigration insist on a specific certification from Kasikorn bank. I turned up with bank letter, 12 months statements (with 65k x 12 highlighted) and 12 WISE PDFs for each monthly transfer. No....I needed the Kasikorn bank certificate which I could only get from the Pattaya Klang branch Bit of an inconvenience, but I know for next year.
  9. Such a shame - but you are absolutely right.
  10. You would expect their life expectancy rank to be higher than 54th......... https://www.worldometers.info/demographics/life-expectancy/ In Thailand, life expectancy at birth has improved by ▲ 6.44 years from 71.3 years in 2000 to 77.7 years in 2019. Open full-screen mode Worldwide, life expectancy at birth has improved by ▲ 6.52 years from 66.8 years in 2000 to 73.3 years in 2019.
  11. As 'Trade Finance' which is the normal description you get with Kasikorn for overseas payments...... and yes marked as 'Funds for long term stay in Thailand' with WISE.
  12. Weird that mine arrive in seconds
  13. That is irrelevant for me dealing with Jomtein Immigration - they need a special form from Kasikorn Bank in Pattaya Klang certifying receipt of the transfers. With Kasikorn it shows as 'Trade Finance' on my bank statements and you can drill down to see that the payment came from WISE Payments xxx-x-x8899-x. As I said, Jomtein requires greater certification, despite the fact that I can supply 12 PDFs of the monthly transfers to back up the bank statements.
  14. I don't actually believe that WISE send the payment to any bank in Thailand. This is how WISE word it:- "Our smart technology links local bank accounts in countries all over the world. So often we’re able to use money from a TransferWise user sending money the other way around. Once we get that sorted, we'll give you an estimate of when your money will arrive – usually it’s much faster than a bank transfer". The whole point of WISE is they match currency requirements between countries i.e. I want to send GBP 5,000 to Thailand - WISE matches that with someone who wants to move Thai Baht into Sterling. I imagine that the reality is that WISE has accounts, or possibly agents, in each country and the payment to MY Kasikorn account is made as a domestic transfer from WISE Payments in Thailand. That is how I think it works ...........but I will stand corrected. My transfer of 65k on Friday (with Funds for long term stay in Thailand as the reason for transfer) arrived instantly:- Friday 12:26 am You set up your transfer Friday 12:26 am You used your GBP balance Friday 12:27 am We paid out your THB
  15. Hoi An Take in Da Nang nearby then fly to Dalat
  16. I don't need to take it up with anyone. I know what a pardon is - and should be aware of the vagaries of reporting translations in Thailand. A pardon would not include an ongoing prison sentence. pardon 2 of 2 verb pardoned; pardoning ˈpärd-niŋ ˈpär-dᵊn-iŋ transitive verb 1 a : to absolve from the consequences of a fault or crime b : to allow (an offense) to pass without punishment :
  17. If it was a pardon he would be exonerated and be a free man.
  18. Not a pardon....................a commutation I believe.
  19. Opinion only - and I disagree. Give me Costa any day.
  20. 17 years ago so did I (a lady at the Land Transport Office) did wave a stick, randomly, at circles that were coloured red, yellow and green. Not for any of the subsequent renewals that..... tested as per @youreavinalaffpost.
  21. I agree. I am sure that he could have negotiated house arrest with a ban from politics.
  22. If it stays like that with no (direct) involvement with politics I can live with it......
