  1. Thanks...been looking for this for some time!
  2. Yeah. I've lived and worked in Thailand since 1990 and have seen the lack of progress. Awful education system, the general bullying of the population, corruption making the country uncompetitive. The people deserve better. , lack of leadershio
  3. Keep the masses docile, ignorant, subservient and frightened and you can keep the status quo.
  4. Every now and again we get these awful stories of children drowning in their local lake. The kids (who can't swim) ask a relative if they can go swimming. The relative says yes, the kids go swimming and drown. And then there is shock, horror and despair. This story gets repeated all the time. Why would you let children play at a lake when they can't swim? There are many reasons for this including lack of parental supervision, fatalism, poor education.
  5. Just ask the bondholders and shareholders of their opinion on THAI. In the real world, the airline would have been wound up years ago. God knows how much public money has been wasted on this dinosaur.
  6. Indeed...they never seem to be called Anne Smith, Jane Jones etc etc.
  7. With a monopoly of duty free operations in various Thai airports, it's amazing how King power can't make money. This Nation article gives the history of the King Power saga: https://www.nationthailand.com/business/corporate/40051565 This article gives details of the lawsuit brought against King Power in 2017 over alleged underpayment of revenues to AOT: https://www.occrp.org/en/news/thailand-owner-of-leicester-city-faces-422m-graft-suit
  8. Used go there every Friday night in the 90's. Just the best nights out followed by Elvis and Tom Jones at Radio City.
  9. I bicycle every day and have a taser attached to my handlebars. If a dog starts to get aggressive, I deploy the taser which emits a cracking sound between the 2 electrodes. The dogs are startled by the noise and run away. You can get them from Shopee: https://shopee.co.th/ส่งจาก-กทม-ไฟLED-ไฟแบบพกพาอัจฉริยะชาร์จUSB09-i.1224090127.29117285707?xptdk=b95fe6e8-a79a-44de-b9ad-f6fdbdefa16e
  10. If I remember correctly, there was a report that the fire exits were locked to prevent guests leaving without paying. Some poor Korean guest had recently got married. He was not in the hotel when the fire started but his new bride was and she died.
  11. Over the past couple of years, I've had 4 basal cell carcinomas excised and am treating one on my my nose with Aldara cream. I've also had lots of actinic keratosis spots burned off. I go to the dermatologist every 6 months and also apply SPF 50+ cream every morning and every time I go out on my bike (which is most days). When I'm biking, I wear a mask, a broad-rimmed hat, UV-protection long-sleeved cycling shirt and gloves.
  12. Well done. I should have done citizenship years ago when I was working (been here 35 years, married for 34 years) but I did PR and left it at that. Don't need to own land, work again or vote, but it would have been nice to have a Thai ID card and passport!
  13. Having lived and worked in Thailand for 35 years, I have formed many opinions on the Thai education system and the benefits of a university education. When I was the MD of a Bangkok office in the early 1990s, we needed well educated English-speaking graduates who could deal with foreign clients. These graduates were usually from rich families and were educated abroad and therefore pretty fluent in English. Unfortunately, they lacked the "hunger" to do a good job because their families were so rich, their job was just something to do and if they didn't like it, they could return to the bosom of their family without suffering financial hardship. The keener employees were the ones who had got their degrees in Thailand, but the downside was that creative thinking, intuition and problem-solving had been bullied/educated out of them. However, they were very receptive to training and were delighted that the company took the time to help them without the fear of being bullied or humiliated if they made mistakes.
  14. Very disappointing. I've used Food Panda for many years and like it's web-based ordering, Now I'll have to download the Grab Food app on my phone and learn how to. use it!
  15. Sounds an unlikely explanation from the driver.
