  1. Poor guy.

But I would by far have preferred to die in hospital rather than using a knife on myself, leaving the whole mess to be discovered by my wife.

In Some way I can imagine why he did it. Probably no funds or sufficient insurance to cover the medical expenses, which would cause a very nasty way towards eternity.

Since most people are more afraid of the process of dying than death itself, he chose his own way.

Not very elegant and sad for wife and child.

    R.I.P.

  2. from OP:

He was carrying 30 passengers on the coach which was only minutes away from completing its journey from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok to the Bus Station in front of Foodmart on Jomtien Second Road.

Is that stretch of "Thappraya Road" now considered to be part of Jomtien Second Road? If so, how far north (i.e. toward Pattaya) does Jomtien Second Road extend now?

It happened on Thepprasit Road and not on Thappraya Road. Thappraya Road is where the bus station is. Not sure if that part of Thappraya Road is aka Jomtien 2nd Road

  3. Anyone legally working in Thailand and paying social security is elligable for government insurance. If this man didnt have insurance it is becuase he wasnt working legally or his employer failed to register him.

As far as I know, this social security matter doesn't count for teachers and that is since 2007 or 2008.

Teachers also are exempted from the rule of having a certain minimum salary (e.g. THB 50,000 for Europeans).

If teachers do have some kind of health insurance it is because they arranged themselves or they take part in some collective offered by their employer.

  4. Agree on that one, but since there are a lot of people from Esan moving to Pattaya to find their "luck", those things happen here too, but they seem to be normal; no more reports in the media lately....no less either.

Just how many people do you know that have moved from Isaan to Pattaya?

Countless........there is Golf, Tee, Pen, Suthida, Nong, Purn, Somboon, Sarika, Beam, Songkram, Tae, Seksan, Miw, Nui, Nueng, Billy, Kitty and that are just a few people I know.........from Yasothon, Udon Thani, Amnat Charoen, Khon Kaen, Chan Yeun, Mahasarakham, Buriram, Ubon...........

    Should I continue?

Yeah! right. Didn't want to lose face did we!

Have the freakin' guts to come down here, and I introduce you to all of them.........UNCLE David..

  5. Good that his loving brother fled the scene.....big brother falls and dies...so do a runner!.......Some of 'em are gutless pieces of s!!!

Indeed. All I can surmise from this, what with him running, is that he didn't 'accidentally' fall... brother probably pushed/punched him off!

The point is, that the brother PROBABLY made a runner, because he would end up in custody for a few days......accident or no accident.

In Thailand he'd be guilty until proven not guilty; different from most other countries.

Since the brother would not be able to afford legal-assistance he would stay in prison for quite some time. Of course, making a runner wasn't very smart......they'll catch him sooner or later.

  7. I may be "slightly" naive, but I can't believe that just 3 teenagers just attacked the German and his friends out of just nothing; there must be more to this story.

The reason of "like to copy the Koh Thao murder" is utter BS; a bright example of Thais coming up with some reason to let them stand out better for the media; they should have told the real reason, but that would make them loose face big time.

"Slightly naive" being your entry for understatement of the year yes? If not then Im afraid you've got bigger problems than a little slight naivity. And trying to define the logic in the rest of your statement is like trying to read spaghetti

Reading and quoting seems to be a problem too.........I said "slightly".........the slightly between "...." should say enough isn't it?

So, if my problem is my naivity, your problem is getting the facts straight.

Why are you trying to make things up? Not in everybody's interest what you believe and what not.

Are you trying to say that he provoked them by sitting in a park?

But your username a sort of protects you, Joe.

Why does my username protects me? YOU are lost in isaan; at least i know where I am.

What I was trying to say with my post is, that i just can't believe that people (human beings) randomly attack other people (human beings); in my perspective, only animals do that and even then there may be a reason to do so.

I am not saying that the German was provoking, but he might just have been the trigger to get rid of some frustration on the side of the attackers.

I apologize, as I was just referring to Pattaya, which isn't the real Thailand for me.

Agree on that one, but since there are a lot of people from Esan moving to Pattaya to find their "luck", those things happen here too, but they seem to be normal; no more reports in the media lately....no less either.

  11. This conclusion may lead to an attempt to get people away from the internet.........this will never happen.

Instead they may need to get involved.............instead of spending millions or even billions of Baht on tablets for schoolkids.........become sponsor of the bigger social media providers and get your messages across using the advertising possibilities.

Or maybe there is even a better solution which is better for all parties and age-groups: invest in a proper 3G and 4G system for mobile internet and get all internet-traffic digitalised; this will result in higher speed, which will result in faster downloads and shorter time needed..........3.5 hours per day will be 2.5-3 hours per day.

  12. The biggest problem is, that most if not all Thai and some lo-so foreigners have no clue about their environment and who is part of that environment.

Slamming doors, moving furniture without lifting it, loud music, loud discussions, playing kids, etc...............most noise can't be stopped.

Complaining to any management will result in a "If you don't like it here, move!"

  13. My home country is in Scandinavia, and the consulate here has just closed. The Thai embassy here are much more strict than the consulate was.

It seems like the consulate in Hong Kong might be able to do it:

    http://www.thai-consulate.org.hk/web/3015.php?s=4262

does anyone have experience with them?

    Btw, I'm not a teacher.

    There is this

1.2 A letter from the Thai Business Counterpart with authorized signature and Company Seal Stamp, stating the details about the visit to Thailand together with a copy of the Certificate of Company Registration issued by the Thai authority. A copy I.D. card of the Company's authorized signatory is also required.

That looks like a formalised version of the ruling that I utilised. Maybe that was the legislation then but they took a loose interpretation. The consulates are always more "relaxed". They are private businesses that bought into visa issuing generations ago, normally in association with related trade (like import/export through docks, as in Hull's case). Basically they were making money on visas so it was in their interest to take a loose view on the regulations. There was a lot of tightening in Hull last year with the visa "crackdown". With tourism bombing they may loosen up again so you just have to try I guess.

The letter you mentioned is indeed sufficient....or was........in most cases it will give you a 90 day single non-B which gives you enough time to take care of a WP + extensions in Thailand.

    AFAIK only with a WP you'll get a one-year non-B

  14. Just returned from extending my non-o marriage for 60 days

Please can some one tell me what this means?

Why TF should anyone be extenending a non - o marriage visa for 60 days?

I go every year and extend my visa on the basis of being married to a Thai, never had a problem.

Cop told me 'law changed', can only give 30 days

What law, and why didnt you or your mrs question it?

My wife handed over an extra B1,000 (total B2,900) and suddenly 60 days extension was possible

60 days, why werent you given a 1 year exestenstion?

All right questions and doubts rgs2001uk, but keep in mind that most if not all expats are highly dependable of immigration officers regarding their stay in Thailand.

Immigration can deny you an extension or even do not allow you stay any longer. That's the main reason that most people do pay up........and if you don't......beste case scenario: all next visits will be a pain the a_s_s
