Agreed, but Fillmore has the BBQ'ing, and that's what makes it special in Chiang Mai.If you want a great hamburger try Mikes I had one the other day and it was delicious!!! -
.... and will be happy with a Pittance salary working as a Teacher in Bangkok, no chance of saving any money, so it is just hand to mouth living
Don't kid yourself, sir. Some teachers have done quite well here in a teaching career, even saving considerable amounts of money over the years...
Remember, this is Thailand, where anything is possible!
-
It's pretty much the same anywhere on the Chiang Mai plauteu, I think. We don't get much in the way of wind to blow the pollution away...
-
Have you met a farang restaurant owner in Chiang Mai who wasn't trying to sell?
His asking price was 1.5 mil earlier...
Anyway, I wish him the best of luck. Nice guy, tasty product

Whingers whinging about the whingers in Thailand. I love it.
Ravisher is probably the most well balanced guy on here.
And non Whingers going on about whinging about the whingers in Thailand.
God its late
How would you spot a non whinger?
He is the one with a fence post up his behind
One would think that would be a justifiable reason to whinge!

plus my bank has raised the atm fee to 200 baht a go!
You gotta be joking, joka
Maybe he's a 'high maintenence' customer
-
Why pay the second 500 baht???
-
High prices, plus $7 additional per item for shipping to Thailand. There's gotta be a better option here in Thailand already...

heh, that bumper sticker is just asking for trouble.
Everytime I first glance your avatar, it looks like a wiggling penis
And no fruedian comments, please!

So many well-meaning cooks in this kitchen, na'?

Take the Sprinter Train. Goes in the daytime so you can see the country-side. It's also very comfortable and fast, but still stops along the way...
No idea of the price. Contact a travel agent.... About the busses, too...

Same o, same o.... TiT

Nothing insurmountable, but annoying to have happen. I truly wish I could say more, but....
Happy Holidays, too

Fillmore East quietly closed a couple of months ago... There was a rumour that Rod was going to open somewhere else 'soon'... No word since then.
Kinda missing those BBQ steaks and burgers. Anyone with any news?

Someone told me once years ago when I first came here - "Never invest money here in any form, and try to make friends in the govt.rather than the police"
From what I have experienced and seen, very very wise advice.
From your story, I'd say the opposite would be better!

Ajarn, could you please elaborate on some of these problems at Cmai immigration? Id be very interested
in hearing what you have to say....
All the best ,the Harpman.
As always, with any Thai police, be careful of your words and actions. Problems can happen even for the nicest people who follow all the rules and smile a lot. My advice is to play down your financial resources over the minimum requirements....

Work Permit for the foreigner?
-
Check the recent threads about this...
Prices are not normally discounted on new vehicles here, but there are some freebies
-
Last new years I never saw one traffic stop on the super highway (Chaing Mai). The odd no helmet bribe-point, but any suggestion of a 'crackdown' on drunks was a joke, regardless of what the government was saying.

Yep, the excuse given the public is that there aren't enough breath testers...
Sometimes I feel like going to a police station and paying for a group of police to set up road blocks for drunk drivers.. I really don't think it would take long to start turning things around if enforcement was strong and consistent.
As it is now, it seems nobody gives a second thought to driving after drinking. The main reason why I try to avoid being on the roads after dark in Thailand.

I read in the paper that Pattaya (Phuket?) will be allowed to stay open 'till 6am

Do you think that CM is easier than Bangkok?
I found that getting other things like work permit and driving license is much much easier outside Bkk.
Yes, I think CM is friendlier- if you're broke
-
Personally, due to some problems at CM immigration lately, I would prefer Bkk if I had a choice. I've always found Bkk to be straight-forward and game free, devoid of any squeezing for money....

So far no one with any really negative experiences regards trade plates BUT of course past behaviour of the boys in brown is no indication of future behaviour. Worse case scenario seems to be a 200 baht fine (negotiable if no receipt).
Sorry, but the worst case scenario is getting your truck impounded for no plates, just like they do for many motorcycles...

River Transport In Chiang Mai
in Chiang Mai

http://www.chiangmai-mail.com/113/features.shtml#hd2 works better
My guess i that it will be a more convenient way sometimes for the market sellers (the only stops..) to expand their distribution...
Otherwise, I don't know... All of those market dock areas are saturated with cars and people all day, with cars going through and pedestrians staying local, or catching rides to areas likely not close or convenient to any river stop...
And this little item... "The first budget of 1.5 million baht was spent with 300,000 baht for building the boats and constructing a new pier behind Wat Ka Jao, on a 19 rai plot of public land."
So they've built the boats and piers and are using public land.... Sounds like all the major expenses for such a project.... I wonder where that other 1.2 million baht spent went off to. And that's only the 'first' budget, mind you...
