  1. http://www.chiangmai-mail.com/113/features.shtml#hd2 works better :o

My guess i that it will be a more convenient way sometimes for the market sellers (the only stops..) to expand their distribution...

Otherwise, I don't know... All of those market dock areas are saturated with cars and people all day, with cars going through and pedestrians staying local, or catching rides to areas likely not close or convenient to any river stop...

And this little item... "The first budget of 1.5 million baht was spent with 300,000 baht for building the boats and constructing a new pier behind Wat Ka Jao, on a 19 rai plot of public land."

So they've built the boats and piers and are using public land.... Sounds like all the major expenses for such a project.... I wonder where that other 1.2 million baht spent went off to. And that's only the 'first' budget, mind you... :D

  2. .... and will be happy with a Pittance salary working as a Teacher in Bangkok, no chance of saving any money, so it is just hand to mouth living

Don't kid yourself, sir. Some teachers have done quite well here in a teaching career, even saving considerable amounts of money over the years...

Remember, this is Thailand, where anything is possible! :o

  3. Have you met a farang restaurant owner in Chiang Mai who wasn't trying to sell? :o

His asking price was 1.5 mil earlier...

Anyway, I wish him the best of luck. Nice guy, tasty product :D

  5. Fillmore East quietly closed a couple of months ago... There was a rumour that Rod was going to open somewhere else 'soon'... No word since then.

Kinda missing those BBQ steaks and burgers. Anyone with any news?

  6. Ajarn, could you please elaborate on some of these problems at Cmai immigration? Id be very interested

in hearing what you have to say....

All the best ,the Harpman.  :D

As always, with any Thai police, be careful of your words and actions. Problems can happen even for the nicest people who follow all the rules and smile a lot. My advice is to play down your financial resources over the minimum requirements.... :o

  7. Last new years I never saw one traffic stop on the super highway (Chaing Mai). The odd no helmet bribe-point, but any suggestion of a 'crackdown' on drunks was a joke, regardless of what the government was saying.

Yep, the excuse given the public is that there aren't enough breath testers... :o

Sometimes I feel like going to a police station and paying for a group of police to set up road blocks for drunk drivers.. I really don't think it would take long to start turning things around if enforcement was strong and consistent.

As it is now, it seems nobody gives a second thought to driving after drinking. The main reason why I try to avoid being on the roads after dark in Thailand.

  8. So far no one with any really negative experiences regards trade plates BUT of course past behaviour of the boys in brown is no indication of future behaviour. Worse case scenario seems to be a 200 baht fine (negotiable if no receipt).

Sorry, but the worst case scenario is getting your truck impounded for no plates, just like they do for many motorcycles...
