  1. I think the Thai work situation comes into play also. For older retired guys it's OK, they are seen as done their time and can relax.

But for others, do they (women) want to slave over a hot till/oven/stall while their farang husbands either teach for low money or scuttle around pretending not to work?

There are not too many women (Thai or otherwise) who would take on that liability without some cunning secret 'get out' clause.

  2. Hi. Your memory is either failing or you simply didn't see the news. I can provide proper details for you but as I repeat, this forum won't allow it. Our topic is opening a small business for your Thai girlfriend (vs just supporting her and her extended family and the village where she comes from if applicable). Your and the other poster's continued obsession to distract the members here from the basic facts about human trafficking and what is going on in some bars is tantamount to a childlike attempt at tainting the jury and judges. You will never sway public opinion. The facts remain quite clear, the law is clear, and it's all there for you mate if you just look. God Bless You and OO.

I believe, here in Thailand, public opinion would not be the same as your opinion and I feel (& only feel) that your type of attitude is of a minority.

  3. Nope-you are certainly correct.

A poster on TV put it beautifully about one year ago..

The farangs..are like World War 2 paratroopers..

    Stand up!
    Hook on!
    Equipment check!
    Stand in the door!
    Green light!
..and out you go..to land God knows where...parachute fails..reserve chute fails....

  4. I didn't quote all of your post because I was only addressing one part. I did quote in context, at least meant do. Nothing misleading, sorry if you disagree. The foundation of the barfine is human trafficking. As I said, those who want to be in denial can go ahead and tell the judge and jury that nonsense. I won't be allowed to post the intricate details here but suffice to say when you pressure a lady to get her "buy her out" barfine paid it's a form of human trafficking. When you dock her earned wages it is another form of human trafficking. The courts, public opinion, and anyone with half a brain agrees with me so you position might be in need of review. I have found God and respect Buddhism as a faith. I don't know enough about Buddhism to have an intelligent discussion about it. God Bless you Dave. OO.

Love your description 'you pressure a lady'.
Sorry, I think your living in another place than me (Thailand). The way you talk, is if these girls are poor defenseless flowers or kids. I have found that your idea couldn't be more wrong (generally) and an insult to another poster (KK Dave) by accusing him of being an ex-people trafficker. Grown people have choices, get over it.
    Cod be with you.

  5. - Being a virgin: My wife was one when I met her (28 y.o.). Just like 75% of her friends. Don't get me started with the "fake" thing, I am convinced of my thing.
    - Enjoying cleaning: Not sure if that's real, but at least she does it with a smile. If she doesn't enjoy it, at least she fakes it very well.
    - University: She graduated from Thammasat - not the best in the world but still better than nothing, anyway there are more important things in life.
    - Having lived in the West: I am talking about America and Western Europe mostly - but my wife never left the country before meeting me.

At her last birthday party (31 y.o.) last month, 9 of her girl friends came. Out of those 9, three satisfy all the criteria above, and 2 satisfy 3 out of 4 of them.

  6. Indeed. Ask her why she thinks anyone would buy from her rather than dozens of others selling the same thing sourced from the same place. What will she offer that others don't, to make her place the one to go to. Any Thai that I've met who has had the idea of starting a business has had the idea and then no plan at all on how to make it work, how to do the books, VAT returns etc. Sometimes, also, they just take days off when they feel like it. It's a bit like wanting a car but then not knowing how to drive it, and we know how that often ends up. A wreck.

I would actually say it's a bit like having a car and someone else proving the petrol and driver.
Never going to go good, is it.

  7. Also does she understand (because some Thai people don't) that what goes in the till is not all profit, and not to go in her pocket.Does she understand that rent, overheads and buying stock, has to come out of it. Also the business will be subject to a simple double entry book keeping system, which you can learn, if you dont already know. Its important that you keep the books.Oh! and dont forget to have receipts printed, and given for every sale. None of this."i cut price down for her/him. so i not give bin"
I hate to say it too, but i also think you are wasting your time.We had 2 bars in Patts for five years, and that was hared enough,  and when this junta took over, i saw the writing on the wall. We sold and got out at the right time.
    But, good luck.

    Wise words

  8. My advice is to stop listening to all the negative crap from Farang who have never started a business or taken a risk in their life and whose valuable time is spent drinking booze and denigrating all Thai women.

And what about the advice from the non-drunken farangs who have (unfortunately) done similar in the past and failed???
    Should they be ignored too???

  9. The main culprits are randy young 15 year olds trying to get a glimpse of a photo they persuade the younger children to send. They then may threaten to expose the pic if they do not meet or send more etc. That's the main sell point anyways but you can do all sorts with its turn phone into a Room bug or activate features remotely. Read all content and images on phone and of course as you said. Locate the phone via GPS.

Yeah, spooky this stuff. In my bad old days, I had a g/f in Pattaya who could listen-in on other people's phones like a speaker even when they were not switched on! She proved it to me by letting me listen to a mate in another s/t hotel. Straight after that I changed my phone number!!!!

  10. A real good one. In a country where people need a calculator to subtract 20 baht from 100 baht, it's almost impossible that a Thai gf who went through such a great education be successful in running such a business.
Even the noodle soup vendors have no idea if they make plus, or lose money until it's too late.
I'd even raise your number from 99 % to 99.9%.

    Hey, ajarngreg
You must have been to my minimart in Surin that nearly lasted 2 years! 555

  11. University proves that her family has some money, not a lot of issan farm-girls can afford Uni.

You'd be surprised. A vast majority are exactly as you describe, where I work.

But once again, that still doesn't prove anything as to how honorable/trustworthy someone is. Just look anywhere inThailand at those in suits & ties or Uniforms and see what they get up to!

  12.
Thi Lo Su is more than 120km further up north from this point.
Motorcycles are not allowed of course but I have seen few private SUV's up there and loads of pickups transporting visitors.

Wonderful place and the best waterfalls I have ever seen. We got a 4x4 trip to take us and (at that time) could see why vehicles were not permitted to attempt the roads.
