  1. What are you talking about with $12-20 per month difference?

Have you ever been to Cambodia? Everything you might buy on a day to day basis is significantly cheaper over there than in Thailand.

Then think about the visa, for me that's the Thailand Elite visa which costs 100k Baht per year if you buy it in 5 year chunks.

The European food and wine is also much cheaper in Cambodia.

It seems to me that more people are relocating to Vietnam than Cambodia from LOS but accept maybe that’s different depending where your living/working.

  2. Well today i picked up my yellow book and pink card, and just to double check the wife asked the lady in charge ,did she mean it when she said about us all having them ,she replied that they  have been informed that the govt are discussing it and that she believes that anyone living here over 6 months ,will need one in the near future.
dont shoot the messanger ,i am just repeating what my wife said ,and before anyone goes on about WE dont understand ,that our other half dont pass on the right message ,my wife lived and worked in the UK for many years and speaks and passes messages on perfectly .
anyway just repeating what was said.

I was once told that the Thais invented the Internet. Get my drift?

  3. At Jomtien, they want 1 image per page, period. You sign directly below the image, whether that ends up being halfway down the page or 3/4s or whatever.

I tried to save paper by doing 2 sided copies - ended up wasting paper as I had to redo them so that each scanned image was on a separate page.

I've asked (in the past) where they wanted me to sign (thinking they might want it somewhere on the scanned image, especially if the image has a signature on it so that the 2 could be easily compared) and they've always pointed to directly below the image. (It's the same thing at the bank and pretty much every where else I've gone where I've had to submit photocopies - they've all wanted the signature directly below the image.)

Been doing it that way for a couple few years now and never have a problem.

But as we already know (or should by now) - every Immigration office has its own set of rules and procedures and preferences so whatever one person experiences at one office won't necessarily be the same as what someone else will experience at a different office. Sometimes it won't even be the same experience for 2 people at the same office if they each interact with a different IO.

    There goes another Rain Forrest!

  4. There is absolutely nothing wrong with making a police report. In fact, IMO, you would be stupid if you didn't. Once the report has been filed and the OP has been given his/her copy, it is very hard to get rid of it out of the system.

If, further down the line nothing has been done, and for some reason the OP has to 'protect' himself or his family, the report becomes significant. This is from personal experience.

I suppose interaction by the police depends where you are in Thailand. I have been in the same place for more than 20 years now and personally know of numerous cases that have been closed by the police, from minor road accidents, theft, drugs, snatch & grab through murder.

To me at least, to label all the police like this (only working for reward) is supporting the urban myth. This does not detract from the fact that this behavior does happen by a few............thumbsup.gif&key=3219fd0c065f2af7090c02fcd678f040fbdc10b2d27ca1f7c0b4a8d7a75563ec

I accept your reasoning but feel it’s more than an urban myth (after living/working here for 14+ years and lived in more than a dozen different locations!)

‘By a few’, do me a laugh!!!!

  5. OP, if your drive-by of what you think is the guys car fails, see if you can get access to the CCTV backup and take a snapshot (or video clip) from it to identify the plates. Possible mug shot of the offender as well.

Then who do you think will be at all interested in it (unless there is money to be made?).

  6. Hi Andrew,
    You saw the car?
He said he lives in the row of townhouses nearby?
Me, I would go and take a look around that row for the car. If you find it, it could put your mind at rest.
Regarding the suggestioins about cameras, reports to the police, etc. - can't do any harm.
I tend to think think the guy may possibly have been truthful about his reasons for being in your soi - why else would someone confess to being married to a Derby lass?

How many Thais would have heard of ‘Derby’ too or maybe he said Dubai??

Maybe he’s got mental issues and dreamt it all up.

  7. If you’ve ever been to Thailand you’ll know that there are no fixed rules about anything, and if you’re actually living here you’ll know how ridiculous your post is!

I have lived & worked in Thailand for the last 15 years and also had a yellow book once.
See, it’s easy to answer someone’s questions without the need for silly comments.
    You should try it!!

  8. Am I right in saying those with Yellow book and pink ID cards still have (to do) the following
    1) yearly visa/extensions.
    2) 90day reports of address
3)have no additional legal rights to said property
    4) as 3) but regarding land.
    5) TM30 reports whenever they sleep elsewhere longer than 24 hours.
    6) not get countrywide Thai citizen prices for EVERY attraction/park.
