Be nice to the policeman, invite him out when you go drinking. If you're a reasonable person (happy, calm, generous, etc) he won't screw you over and you'll be able to count on him if you have problems with other people.

i know this problem because i did win a trial in court, it took me 8 hours negociation and a bit of luck.

this situation is normal in thailand, but i am not sure if it is recognized by thai laws today.

if you are going to pay for the wedding you have to know that as an antic custom, the parents or the child has also to pay money to the family of the girl, that's why first the 2 families normally make a (party)meeting with food and drinks and then try to found an arangment about the dowry.if there is a money problem then the girl will not be able to get married until money is promised or given.as you are a farang i won't be surprised the price become a bit high.

also still in thailand it can be a problem for mariage if the boy or girl is coming from a poor family or caste and the status is diferent beetween them.

one thing my friend ,......it is not because you are paying everyting that you will change something, especially when you are a minority in this house full of people.a strong disagrement or dispute can be a cause of divorce where you are going to loose the property you paid for...and moral judgment is not a national speciality .

what about a person who is married but don't have the 400 000 baths in a bank anymore because he spend his money . to live, to build a house, to buy a car, suport an entire wife's family.....and perhaps lost also money trying to make a business with his wife.

so now what can this person do legaly ?...... apart going back home and loose everything, wife included or .......try to get tourist visas as many as he can, if he saw a failure in the burocratic thai system .

is it normal or human that a government separate a man from his wife for the only reason , he hasn't got enough money .....to them ?

i don't say the thais have to help economicly the farang (they could do sometimes )but if this person is correct and respect the thais and pays for what he need ,........why don't they let them live their life in peace ?

i hope some in the thai government read these post sometimes and rectify, because today, in the 20 th century it is incredible that we still have to see such things, especially in country who receive more than 15 milions visitors a year, and his the third destination of the world.

i confirm:in my lopinion, farang are a live and juicy ATM for most of the country men and women, because of the thai immigration visa rules, normal thai people see only money in us , i guess, they think we have a privat factory who make dolars banknote at home..........sometimes i tell them like this, because they can not imagine a farang with no money.

The day you dont have money anymore for any good reason, you will have to leave thailand, even if you are married .... they don't care....and you won't get help from any one.... and if you ask the thai family for help, the litany remain always the same ....sorry don't have money, what can i do?

the thing is that everybody is waiting for the $ to come from you only...thats it !. ...but other foreigners, because they can manage. prefer to dream about coconuts coktails and 20 years young ladys around them......IF YOU THINK THEY ARE HERE FOR YOUR PRETTY FACE....continue to dream then ! just like this ....she said to all people around and the police (at the end police came too!) i took some staff from her shop and put it in my bag , things i bought in another shop 15/20 minutes ago.it was very very taff because i could not explain myself...in chinese ....and in english ...forget it.

if what you have is serious ...go back home and scheck in your own country, better than in thailand because probably the one who tells you it doesnt mater is the one who have not the possibility to do anything or do not know what to do......the second one who tells you to get operated (in privat hospital) is 90% to make money.

for a year and a half, i got sick and i spend 400 000 baths in doctors and hospital care, also the bangkok hospital and more ...i tried everything, i got a privat clinic doctor who gave me a wrong diagnostic and medecine for 6 mounths.

But i made a page on her name in internet to denounce the way she took my money and the way she did every thing, i wanted to give the information here in that forum but the moderator gave me a warning and took my post away because it says it was shaming someboddy....even if it is an injustice , you can't tell and have to chut up in thailand. censure and more censure!

also i found that most of doctors are very young and follow a simple protocol " this symptoms - this medecine" you will find yourself in internet.they don't go further.

they ask me to make all expensive radios and irm and when they had it in hand they didn't even look at it.

at the end, i had to go back to france where they find right away what i had and cure me.

After my bad experience, i would say that if you get really sick, something not easy to cure in thailand...don't wait.... better you go back home, even if you pay sometimes they don't have the knowledges, and they give you medecine just to chut up and go home like you give candy to a kid.

It is funny but THE LAST few days in this forum, there is lots of post asking us what we like or dislike in thailand....and i ask myself .....is it a special inquiry on special demand of immigration or government, disguised and made trough some old thai visa members to let us reply freely? well freely....is a big question...dont forget the moderator and the sensure are omnipresent here..... But suddenly why so much interest in knowing if i want my steak rare or well done?
