I'm sure that it had more to do with the Nationality of the driver than of the manufacturer of the car.Anyway I never heard what you mention about K bank since every new truck available here is manufactured in Thailand.
nah, i still believe it was the truck issue
Seriously, lighten up, there are idiots everywhere and if you let each one bother you, you will live a very frustrating life.
Do keep in mind, that those working filling up the cars are not exactly the brightest bunch,he/she may be got scared of a farang, because he/she does not speak any English.
i fill up ay esso just down the road and when the staff learned there that i can speak Thai(few years ago) they often wave me in to an empty pump even when there is a queue
-
they give a low rate before for peso to baht i mean low like 46 to the baht i seam to remember
yep, half, but in Manila get more like around 70-75, but that was a few years back
-
what kind of truck were you driving? May be he was racists against non thai brands
Apparently Toyota, Honda and Isuzu are the only thai brands, all the rest are foreign (thats according to a lending officer from the K Bank)

I think the further this hatchet job goes, the more self-inflicted damage that PTP will bring on itself. All but the most extremist red sympathisers know that Abhisit on a murder charge is just silly, and the longer it goes on, the more damage it will do to the credence of all other cases that may be pursued.
It also could potentially reflect badly on Thaksin: if Abhisit defiantly stands his ground and faces up to charges that potentially could result in a death penalty, rather than cowardly fleeing off overseas or rushing into making some sort of whitewash pact, it could turn Abhisit into some sort of courageous victim in all this and give him the moral high ground.
youre dreaming
its about time he faced charges
the man was responsible as head of the government and he sent out snipers
it was a stupid irresponsible move at the time and 3 years doesnt change that
i love this denial
But Abhisit denied the accusation, saying the pair's "honest intention" was to "restore peace and order without a crackdown".yeah right. they just happen to take out the rebel general and the next day begin a 6 day, deadly & bloody crackdown
as if that wasnt not planned. abhisit must think everybodys a moron.
Since making rather ridiculous statements is your argument, please provide any proof or support that he sent out snipers?
I guess it was the soi dogs who started the fires as well

insisting military action against protestors was to restore order.which is why his actions didnt conform to any standard, internationally recognized procedures
what an idiot - i hope they put him in a cell next to the red shirts who have been without bail for almost 3 years.
do tell us what the internationally recognized procedures are to deal with a mob who has occupied the city for 2 months and is advocating to burn it down?

You want truth and responsibility abhisit? Then tell the truth and take responsibility for the orders you gave and the unarmed people that died at the hands of the army, it's all well and good just pointing the finger at the other side and tell them what to do for reconciliation, but take a look at your own actions and man up and face the consequences. You don't know what the truth is.
The stuff you spout is pure fantasy and it isn't even your own invention - just third hand red propaganda for those without independent thought cruising the corruption bandwagon.
Abhisit is facing up to the allegations and will fight it in the courts like a true hero not like your plastic icon in the Emirates
Now now calm down, I am intelligent enough to form my own opinion, why is it one side is propaganda and the other is fact in your eyes, I would say you have been brainwashed by the propaganda ner ner ner ner neeer.
I don't have a hero or icon and if I did it certainly would not be thaksin, oh I get it, anyone that does not buy into your ideals just be redshirt sympathizer haha, get real.
It seems you have a hero though, the proven liar abhisit, what. Fantastic roll model you have given yourself.
I do consider Abhisit to be a "hero", unlike many others before him, he is actually educated.Even the current PM who supposedly is US educated with masters, and yet can not string few words in English or give a decent speech.
He Abihist did not "go in to business" or became rich from being the PM unlike many others before him.
Furthermore, he hardly made any "promises" just to gain support and those facts alone is enough to admire him for his desire to make changes and represent Thailand to the world

But Abhisit denied the accusation, saying the pair's "honest intention" was to "restore peace and order without a crackdown".
The British-born politician suggested that the charge against him was linked to a highly controversial reconciliation bill that opponents see as an attempt to enable the return of Thaksin, who lives abroad to avoid a jail term for corruption.
He is absolutely spot on.
If he did indeed give the order just to shoot, rest assured there would have been thousands dead, not just 90.
He indeed give the order to restore peace and that order was met with violent protest, doubt BKK set it self on fire

Previously, Surapong said room rates in Bangkok were quite low compared with other major cities in Asia. Early this year, the average rate was US$97 (Bt2,970), representing only 40 per cent of the real cost. Meanwhile, the average rate in Singapore was $232, Hong Kong $242, Tokyo $164, and Seoul $149.
Just read in another newspaper that the Centara Group plan to open 30 budget hotels with rooms costing 1000 to 1200 Baht per night.
What does Surapong say to that?
Perhaps it is the reason for trying to remove the competition for centara

Not sure if they used the stock photo, but if the underwater cable was damaged, why are they doing work on the electrical lines?(as in the photo)

Best bet is to visit walking street banks because they usually change any currency as they can sell any also.
I know for a fact k-bank booth at Tops on 2 road has the rate for pesos displayed.
Also for Malaysian Ringgit, but they will not provide exchange services of Malaysian currency to baht - in fact none of the banks in Pattaya that I approached would do so. Only the non bank affiliated money exchangers
You will be surprised, Russian rubles are hard to change at any branch, but on Walking street have no problem to change. It really does have to do with location, if they can sell the currency.
Once i wanted to buy some US$, spent all day driving around getting little here and there

Maybe it's the media I take in, or my cracker face, but Pattaya still comes across as a more dangerous place for me to walk around at night.
Then again, I've never had a Thai person so much as look at me crossly. All of this stuff gets filtered through local media before it reaches my ears. Interesting.
If you really believe pattaya is dangerous at night, I suggest you take a midnight walk in NYC or London .
Going on 13th year and never ever ever had a problem in pattaya anywhere-beach,dark soi's or out in Thai area's.
Saying that the OP is about terrorism and while we do not hear much about the south, terror attacks happen daily even sometimes in schools and hospitals .
Government should acknowledge the fact and speak on how they tackle it instead of denying .
Is it bad for Thailand image? Sure it is
But majority do not go to south so majority could not care less

Lemoncake: Last year in Pattaya, i had a visit from the revenue department inspectors, who were supposedly checking if the hotel is under company, is that what they cracking down? i mean really it makes no sense and just opens the door for some "tea money" to be collected for whatever at any time by whomever.
Thanks so much for your input. Not will you please explain whatever it is that you were trying to make as your point?
Last year they checked if hotel was operating under a company ie had registered company ie paying tax.
The question of license and not paying tax are totally unrelated.
So the point was any inspector can come and ask for tea money because the whole crackdown makes no sense.
As stated license cost only 3000 baht/year and does not require anything but photo and payment, so what licenses is he referring to and how does License relate to tax?!
Hope NOW you understand the point

How do they know how many unlicensed hotels there are, if they're not in the trade-association ?
When they say the new regulations "will reduce the supply of rooms nationwide and drive up room rates" they give the game away. It's all about restricting trade, in favour of the up-market operators, who just happen to be members of the club. To heck with the customers' wishes !
Yay for Thai marketing-methods !
Exactly!
He quotes there are 12500 hotels, how does he know that? when they not licensed and how does he know that about 7500 un-licensed?

There is a huge over supply of hotels already in the higher brackets. The budget hotels - according to the article - make up the majority. To keep them as budget they must a) get referrals and have a sufficient standard to keep travellers happy. It seems to me creating more rules (within reason) other than safety etc, is just another way to skim more money to the coffers or the BiB or inspectors to gain more tea money to have them go away. The intention is good for media 'trumpet blowing' but hardly practical in execution and in achieving the 'stated' end result.
Or worse, driving the small hotels out of business or using inferior chemicals, to clean rooms, bad food on the cheap, lack of service, cleaning, and really bad safety in general.
Inferior chemicals??? What is that? Instead of using mr muscle floor cleaner, they use tesco brand??
Cheap food?? Anyone forcing you to eat???
Lack of service??? Do u understand the meaning of budget? Or expect the 5 star service for the price of 1
Good to see some straight thinking and reasonable people on tv

I am not sure why people are against this. Unlicensed hotels are by definition not licensed and as such would not pay any taxes, not be checked for health and safety compliance etc. If they want to be operators they should apply for the proper permits and pay the appropriate taxes and other licensing dues. It is very strange on TV where on the one hand people consistently bemoan the lack of law and order, and here is an article trying to curve some of this issue in the hospitality sector and it is met by skepticism and ridicule.
Hopefully if this can done properly, we will minimize any fire and safety issues or other health related issues in smaller unregulated hotels.
Paying tax and having a license is not the same thing and not related at all.
Registered company pays tax, hotel license cost only 3000 baht for 1 year.
So I am really unsure what they want to crack down ? The ones without the 3000 baht license or the ones not registered company's

this has been a really bad year for the tourism sector and this mishap just does not help business at all.
the question is, would the The Provincial Electricity Authority compensate the business or offer some kind of rebates or whatever to compensate for the losses.
This is not a Thai thing so no need to blame Thailand, this things do happen, as i said hope business will be compensated in one way or another

Have got to feel sorry for the locals some times seeing how some foreigners behave and treat them.
Though, i must also say, i have been driven mad by 7-11 employees to a point of wanting to kill them.

while i can see your frustration, do not you think worrying about 4500 baht after spending 1.5 million is rather time wasting.
pay the 4500 and get on with your life
That is why customer services is abyssal in Thailand. Obviously, as people do not want to discuss with the dealer and the maker turns a deaf ear... no progress can ever be made.
In any case, at the risk of repeating something well-known... GM products suck in general.

well posting on thai visa is not going to fix or rectify the situation is it?
wheels for BMW are also sold for double the regular price, it is the mentality, if someone can afford the car, they can afford to pay for the key.
does not mean i agree with the policy, but it is what it is.
on the other hand, if someone was complaining about 15 000 000 baht car not having the key, then we could continue to debate what should be, but on the larger scale of things, 1500 000 baht is not exactly top range. in Australia car is not even considered luxury if it cost under $60 000=1800 000thb

you are getting ripped off for 124, there are vans who run for 97 baht

@ featography - Is it really small minded for someone to suggest the pet owners, cats owners in this topic have thier animals neutered? The problem with a lot of pet owners is that they love the cute little fluffy kittens who are so adorable just like a newborn child. When they get older they are no longer so appealing an cute and are dumped where they become a nuisance and breed out of control. If a lot of these cats and the generations before them were neutered then there would be no story of scores of abandoned cats dying and suffering.
Fair enough thais do not want to spend money or time on neutering abandoned and feral cats but to suggest that someone is small minded for suggesting a solution to a large problem is just a tad silly.
You say the laws of nature dictate and when numbers of any species exceed the food source then other measures come into play. Does this mean when a charity comes knocking to feed the starving around the world we should just say, let nature take it's course because if we feed them they will breed adding to an existing problem? We wouldn't let the human species starve but we would try and educate them about contraception. With cats we can't run around and educate cats on contraception or attach condoms to the males but we can do the next best thing, neutering.
You should not generalize, all of my pets are neutered, because i did not want to have little cute fluffy things going into bad hands.
I have 3 dogs and 4 cats living in my house, all rescue, i also rescued another 2 from the street and these 2 living in the hotel(business), i have also spent money on vaccination and neutering of all soi cats and dogs around the hotel and my house just to ensure they do not get sick and do not reproduce.
I feed them all daily, so they live happy not bothering anyone, if anything, people started to add food for them, like left overs.
I can say i have vaccinated and neutered about 7 soi cats and 4 soi dogs, since then no more came and the ones who are here also live in peace as they do not need to win or fight for a partner.

Umm, does this feline flu spread to any other wildlife other than dogs? Say chickens perhaps? Any info anyone?
Just on Fox last night, no can not, however humans can pass on flue onto cats and other animals if in close contact
Toxoplasmosis a parasitic disease, the primary host is the cat family and are infected by eating infected meat mainly pork. Cats are the primary source of infection to human hosts.
The show was only related to flue, not parasites, AGAIN according to Fox last night, cats cannot pass any flue on to humans.
Also not sure what kind of cats eat pork, all mine eat tuna, fish and sea food, though mine could be high-so

Let me try to counter that for you, what charges have been laid against current PM and Chalerm for seriously injuring 13 people just the other week? Those were also unarmed and outnumbered by police like 1-100.
So will PM be charged and should she be charged for ordering violent crackdown causing injury's
