Community Surprise Raid Uncovers Indian Hotel Party Near Pattaya
Emdog replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
"Surprise raid?" "Uncover" it is no surprise it took the cops so long to get off their backsides and face some public... Uncover? Something as loud as a 747 is hardly hidden "...nightly parties had disrupted their lives for over a month. Locals reported that the music made it impossible to sleep, prompting swift and decisive action from the district office." somehow those two don't quite mesh, unless you consider one month to respond as "swift". In a sane country, a cop on the beat would stop by and tell the party goers to turn the music down and keep it down. Do this on day one, not day 30. Don't need a whole raid and all that- 25 replies

Trump Wants Alcatraz Back: ‘The Rock’ to Cage America’s Worst?
Emdog replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
Thinking of those two German women who were sucked in by ICE, even tho totally legit tourists, perhaps Trump & Co see no difference between prisoners and tourists.... "..the prison gained even more notoriety through films like Birdman of Alcatraz..." Does the AI that writes this trash know definition of "notoriety"? "the state of being famous or well known for some bad quality or deed." Or do they have zero knowledge regarding the real "bird man of Alcatraz"? Violent, yes, but why famous? Why was a very good film about him starring Burt Lancaster made? "Robert Stroud, famously known as the Birdman of Alcatraz, made significant contributions to ornithology despite serving a long prison sentence, primarily through his studies of canaries while incarcerated at Leavenworth and later at Alcatraz. He became a self-taught expert on avian pathology, publishing research and developing cures for bird diseases, most notably a cure for the hemorrhagic septicemia family of diseases" -

Economy Vietnam Tourism Threat Looms: Could It Overtake Thailand?
Emdog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Vietnamese culture is based on Confucian ideals of hard work, education, civic pride. Thailand isn't. Thailand had a long stretch of time when they were one of the few destinations in Asia. Vietnam had the war and recovery, same and worse for Cambodia, Laos is xenophobic Marxist, Burma... you know Thailand squandered that enviable position thru sloth and greed and are now just finding out the cost- 152 replies

Crime Ten Women Arrested in Nationwide ‘FWFans’ Sex Trafficking Network Bust
Emdog replied to Georgealbert's topic in Bangkok News
"The platform falsely presented itself as a site for finding romantic partners, companions, or massage services, but was in fact facilitating the commercial sex trade." I fail to see much distinction here in the land of smiles.... -
"...must fund a gender-affirming surgery for a non-binary individual who seeks to construct a vagina while retaining a fully functional penis." So now if someone tells he/her/whatever to go F***! themself, response could be along the lines of "what a nice suggestion... I think I will. Eat your heart out." Seems one sex organ per customer is not an outrageous standard... "gender affirming care", okay... but plural? GenderS affirming care?

Trump's First 100 Days: Supporters Weigh Progress, Pain, and Promises
Emdog replied to Social Media's topic in World News
That article looks like the sort of in depth analysis one might see on NewMax. Lead should have pointed out "4 or 5 supporters weigh progress, etc" but to leave it vague "supporters" is false. Pre Trump the US Economy was "the envy of the world" per the Economist. Trump has managed to sabotage that, along with alliances, partners, etc in just under 100 days. He and his econ101 flunkies lack the most basic understanding of trade and tariffs. He is a Putin puppet.... I could go on for pages, but he is a sick man, narcissist, lacking in any shred of human decency, low IQ easily manipulated. His only "plus" is that he is smarter than his supporters, about 1/3 of US population I live here in Thailand, and do not support Trump: worst thing that has happened to US since Civil War If you only know Trump supporters, broaden your circle. I have a couple of US friends who support Trump. The rest see him as the disaster he is -

Crime Iranian Nationals Arrested in Pattaya for Stealing Money from Tourists
Emdog replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
Does make you wonder why you'd pass them your whole pile. Seem they got 7 $100 bills. Seems if passing them one bill to look at would be enough. I thought maybe they gave the Iranians one $500 and one $200 bill, but I thought wrong... 😞 -
Report Thailand Faces Uphill Battle Against China's Tax-Free Shopping
Emdog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I've never used Thai VAT refunds for tourists, but isn't that similar... the distinction being "instant" compared to "get yr cash when you leave the country"? Seems "instant" would lead to all sorts of fraud: You, a tourist, approached by regular Chinese citizen whom I assume pays some sort of sales tax. He offers to give you half of what tax would be if you go in and buy xyz for him. You get instant commission, he gets half off on tax.... -

Travel Thailand's Aviation Sector Soars with FAA's Category 1 Safety Upgrade
Emdog replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
first trip to Thailand was in 1982, on Thai, Seattle-Tokyo-BKK. Nice enough... So I suppose good news Thai is back to status it had in 1980's.... -
for the umpteenth time, read the Constitution... I assume you have heard of that document. No dem wants terrorists in the US, to think otherwise is patently stupid. For anyone accused/taken in by gov what is Constitutionally required is due process, aka "your day in court". We are fighting illegality done by the government, not the criminals. "No person shall be .... be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law" (5th Amendment). What parts of that are you unwilling to allow into your consciousness? "How can Americans feel safe knowing the guy next door could be a terrorist or killer or foreign gang member?" Stupid once more: YOU could be a foreign gang member. YOU could be a terrorist. If I am an officer in ICE and decide you are one or the other, without any court hearing, without any charges, you'd be happy with me bundling your ass off to some Salvadoran prison with zero rights to attorney, hearing, contact with family, etc... a black hole. We have courts and procedures to decide these things. You would applaud Gestapo for rounding up, imprisoning Jews without trial or charges. It is the same thing, the same lack of rule of law. Cut the crap about dems wanting terrorists etc. It is BS and you know it. If you don't, seek deprogramming

Report Thailand Waves Goodbye to Costly Scout Uniforms, Eases Parent Woes
Emdog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
When I was a boy..... scouts were totally optional, something you had to seek out, not mandatory by any means. This was in USA. I did cub scouts, but didn't go for boy scouts... whole structure seemed a tad too Nazi for my taste- 66 replies
