I will share what I understand. This is the vaccine that is being developed with Astra Zeneca. It is one of 3 leading contenders in advanced mass Phase 3 trials. The other 2 are the US contenders being developed by Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson. The Phase 3 trials are on a large scale - I recall the J&J candidate is being tested with 60,000 people. That’s happening right now. It is expected that any of the 3, and potentially all of them, could be sanctioned for immediate mass vaccination as soon as December. Astra has apparently commenced production to have 2 million doses available immediately following approval - ie mass vaccination of key healthcare workers and other priority cases could happen in large number this year. Interestingly Oxford have signed a mass production agreement with one of the leading vaccine manufacturers in India to facilitate very rapid mass manufacturing - I think year 1 target is 100m doses, rising quickly. India production will be available to less developed countries. That is also expected to happen very rapidly following approval. That’s the sum total of my knowledge. My information is from a Doctor friend who is one of the trail patients for the Oxford vaccine. He is extremely positive about the prospects, as are many others close to the process. Another friend who works in biotech has a similar view. Unsurprisingly there have been some sensational stories in the main stream media about issues with testing. Adverse results arise and do not necessarily mean the vaccine is failing. We will know much more over the next few weeks. This story is potentially a game changer and is worth following. Please don’t shoot the messenger. I am not a vaccine expert. I have no position on this efficacy of vaccination. And I am not really equipped to defend the trail process. I am not involved. Hitherto I was sceptical but changed my position completely 2 weeks ago. I have no knowledge as to how this might play out for Thailand but it could be very good. I hope this provides some encouragement to some of you.
All true but the vaccine will have to be a two part vaccine which can not be done at the same time. It has also yet to be agreed if different companies will be allowed to supply the two injections. If not, this may cause production issues, I suppose. There's still a long way to go.

My point is, you don't want foreigners to return yet you appear to be a foreigner. Can't have it both ways.

Businesses with the exception of those involved in tourism are just getting back to normal.
Another outbreak resulting in further lockdowns and restrictions placed on businesses and industry would hurt the economy far more and affect many more people than the current unfortunate situation.
In addition, I don't want to catch COVID-19 from foreigners coming into the country from places that have totally and utterly failed to deal with the crisis, nor do I want my family, friends and employees to catch it either.
So to all the sex-tourists and other selfish tourists stuck back home wanting Thailand to open up so they can come on a jolly, suck it up, because it ain't happening.
Perhaps this selfish attitude is exactly why countries like the US and UK have no hope of controlling the virus?
A foreigner is a foreigner is a foreigner. Unless you're Thai you fall into the category, business owner or not.

Although I'm not necessarily advocating this plan for restarting tourism, at least I understand the intent, and accept opening borders has to start somewhere.
Not being totally blinkered, I know there are many thousands of tourists who don't come here for the hedonistic lifestyle of a few weeks partying in the fleshpots. Many people have been coming here for years to escape winters in their home country and enjoy the Thailand experience for up to 6 months of the year. A near neighbor has been entertaining long stay guests in his establishment for as long as I have lived nearby. These people party among themselves, eat out for every meal and undertake short term travel around neighboring Provinces. I'm sure they spend more money here every year than any short term entrant.
They are the people this visa is aimed at, and it could also give the forgotten quasi- residents, languishing in home country, a way to reunite with family and perhaps eventually stay.
Only a complete fool believing in hoax theories, would think that throwing the borders wide open is the way to start up the economy again. It would have the opposite effect very quickly.
Yes, but with only 300 entries per week there won't be any partying amongst themselves. At best they'll be partying by themselves.

I really don’t know what people expect ? Personally I don’t want borders opened in my home country especially from places that have very high covid rates . Thailand will be opened for high season they are far to greedy to pass up that cash cow trust me .
Which high season?

I agree with a previous post. The Thais are incredibly resilient and are capable of living from day to day with no plan and not worrying about tomorrow. A lot will have come from humble backgrounds and this kind of situation won't be new to them. When it comes down to it they do look after each other and mostly don't have the selfish western attitude.

Obviously when a country officially announces a reopening, airlines will start queuing up.
I guarantee there will be enough wanting to go even with the restrictions. It will be a good test run before reopening to broader tourism.
You guarantee it hey? That's some claim.

Phuket is by far the best place to live in Thailand. Stunning beaches, malls and cinemas, clean air, local markets with great food, a beautiful house with private pool for less than 25k a month, motorbike trips to nearby Trang, Krabi and Phang Nga. Nothing beats living in Phuket imho. Especially since Covid, its an absolute paradise. Coming here as a tourist is a totally different story of course. Would never advise people to holiday

I'm just wondering about testing in other countries. If you need a negative test 48 hours before departing then surely this is going to be super stress time. Imagine having everything in place then you'll have to lie about needing a test or maybe you can pay for it? You'll be sat at home biting your finger nails waiting for the test result to come back. I can see people either in the airport or on the way checking their emails every 20 seconds for the results. One slight hiccup then it's all over. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Take the latest example of a country that has opened its borders to tourists, Spain, and see the tragic results - an upsurge of the virus and many sick and dead people. The tourist industry there also regrets the way the borders were opened, as the little business they had before is now gone. The Thai authorities are to be applauded for the way they are handling the epidemic - see the positive results.
The borders are open in the UK yet we now have fewer deaths from Covid and road accidents than Thailand has from just road accidents. As from yesterday, just 69 people on ventilators, down from 3,000, out of 65 million. Hospital admissions down as is the death rate. Figures may be increasing as the younger generation are becoming infected with little or no illness. As far as "positive results", I feel the hungry will disagree with you. I do wonder where you get your statistics from? The easy part is shutting the borders, the hard part is taking care of your own people whilst keeping the economy up and running. The Thai economy is in free fall and it's reserves will only last so long. Then there's the protests in Bangkok. Thailand has no plan, or the plans can change hourly. Long may it stay closed then the baht will start to show its true value. A big reset button for those who have taken western money for granted. If it's bad now, just wait until next year.

Now, that does sound like the south. Probably 200 baht to go 100 metres on a tuk tuk too.

Do they concider flights transiting swampy as tourists even though they never leave the airport?
I don't think you can trust any of the figures that come out of Thailand. They say 95 percent of Thais don't want dirty farang returning to Thailand yet. The actual truth is the Thai people are becoming increasingly frustrated with the Thai authorities. Just look what's happening in Bangkok. Didn't think I would ever see those kind of protests.

Social distancing? Non Existent!!!
Ok, the Brits are supposed to self quarantine for 14 day!? It doesn't happen now so they won't bother on their return.
USA still has nothing under control.
New Zealand and The Kingdom have the correct idea.
The Kingdom will survive without the tourists.
Keep up the good work.
3,000 on ventilators down to just 72 in England. Infection statistics may be up but there's several reasons for that. Hospital admissions have been and are still falling, as is the death rate. The Thai economy is in free fall let alone the protests in Bangkok. The easy part is closing the borders. The hard part is coping with the virus on a daily basis both for the economy and the well being of the Thai people. People are starving and the food handouts are drying up. The Thai people are getting tired of the authorities, despite what you think you might know. Things in Thailand will only get worse, let alone survive......Just wait for next year. "Keep up the good work", what good work? I'm quite happy not to return until next year when, hopefully, the baht will have returned to its correct value. Thai reserves will only last so long. What's ya plan Thailand?

First of all you don't call officials idiot when they allow you to be a guest in their country. Think about your own country, Immigrants are calling your people idiot and they are disrespectful to your homeland, would you allow them or would you just keep your mouth shut? If you do then you don't have respect and love for your own country. So don't do it for other people's country. Second, what do you except, open the borders and let anyone in to the country so virus can be spread and Thailand closes the borders for years? People are still dying all over the world because of the pandemic, and you are just being a selfish. Think about your family and your close friends, how you will feel when your family members are dead because of the Covid? This is the their way to protect their country and their people, you can only respect their choices, not criticize them, You have to turn around and look at your own homeland first to see what your government don't do for your people, Your own country have to be perfect in order to criticize someone else's country. And one last thing, If you don't like it here you can always go back to your homeland and Thai people will be very happy believe me, so you can be too !
Thai people will be happy? Thank you, I'll make sure I don't return then.

Minimum stay 30 days, Quarantine in a beach side hotel with access to a section of beach for 14 days, I believe in Patong. After a test and 14 days free to travel around Phuket, a week later and another test free to travel around the country.
No mention of GPS trackers, brain implants or mind melds although it’s normal here to check in and out of stores and public places leaving our name and ‘phone number. Can be done on a website via a smart phone (IT’S NOT APP) if you wish.
Be interesting to see what happens. Personally I think it’s a step in the right direction and clearly it’s aimed at high end tourists rather than cheap Charlie’s. No problem with that.
How special do you think Thailand is? The only people this will appeal to is the ones with homes or family in Thailand. I can't see any high end/low end tourist being told where they have to stay for 2 weeks and then having to pay for the privilege. What on earth does cheap Charlies have to do with anything? Not only that, who would want to be stuck in Phuket for any period of time anyway? Of all the places to avoid in Thailand, Phuket is one of them. It was on the bones of its <deleted> before the pandemic started.

Will we hear about the side effects? Those drug companies are all immune to prosecution and thus discovery. We will likely never know any untoward health effects. Did you know that many of these "vaccines" are re-writing you genetic code. We have no idea what the effects of this are going to be.
I'm sure I read somewhere that only 25 percent of the population, as things stand, would be willing to take any vaccine.

Propaganda for Pharma companies of which Govts will share in the profit
The obscene rush , without understanding potential long term damage,
justified by COVID , if taken please try make sure your Doctor makes a legal statement to cover for potential damage or negligence to your family , also please ask what the precise content of the vaccine..it would be useful to know
Additional deaths may result in administering to old people
Fact in USA there has been no Safety Studies performed for the Last 30 years on ANY vaccines
Good advice....duly noted.

In my 11 years of being in Thailand, the one thing I've learnt is always leave yourself in a situation where you can leave in 30 minutes. Obviously many will disagree but Covid kind of proves my point. I'm waiting to get back but the only thing I have there is my motorbike which is stored at friends house.
