Funny you should say that, friend of mine sent me a text last night, it went like this.
"It's a tough call. Do I risk getting Covid with its 99.9% recovery rate.....
Or do I get the Vaccine with its 80% Adverse Reaction rate, the one that has killed 5 people so far in the trials ? What a predicament".
That said I know she is anti vaccines, never had one in her life, so whether the above is true or not there was no link or evidence to suggest it was correct. My family and I have every vaccine required since birth.
As for lining up for the jab on this one, well as the saying goes, when everyone's running to the water to get wet and cool down, just wait a little while longer to make sure nothing is lurking in the background, especially in swimming pools.
Yes, I totally agree with hanging back. Thailand has no plan for dealing with the virus on a daily basis. Easy to shut the borders but the difficult part is living with the virus and keeping the economy up and running, even if not to full capacity. Having spent a lot of time in Thailand over the last 10 years, and wanting to return, I definitely have my reservations about any vaccine. I'm positive I'm not alone with my concerns. If Thailand is waiting for a vaccine to be their magical answer to the tourists returning then they may be in for a rude awakening.

I just wonder how many people will be queuing up for an unproven vaccine? You can hear the news in 5 years time about the possible side effects.

This is one country that truly deserves a huge drop in tourism,
regardless what some wish to claim about the Thai's being such generous, sincere people.
As Thailand tries to figure out what happened...other countries will be ready and have a plan to make tourism strong for their country.
We can already see signs of the neighboring countries getting ready with repairs to the infrastructures,
and accommodations. While Thailand just keep pushing figures out the media, hoping that it will magically come true.
I can only hope it stays very quiet for a long time to come, so Thailand can reflect upon itself,
and the Immigration officers that expelled their inner hate for us, can ask themselves where they will work next?
This is so true. Like I've been saying for months, It's easy to shut the borders to keep out the virus. The harder thing is living and dealing with the virus on a daily basis whilst still keeping your economy up and running. It's Thai life, no plan for tomorrow.

I suppose that it is different strokes for different folks.
I guess that the differences are down to local knowledge.
When you say foreigners are to blame i can only think you mean Chinese foreigners? No disgusting Chinese then no problem in the first place, or maybe you're working for the Chinese government who deny any wrong doing including the treatment of the Uighur people? Having travelled most of Thailand over the last ten years I have to say the attitude in Samui is far worse than most other places. Everywhere has good and bad but a lot more bad in Samui.

Samui, like Phuket is seriously over rated. A lot of hype about nothing, especially Samui. Such a boring island really, with very little to do, and the local are anything but friendly. You can just imagine what they are like now...I went to visit my children, and it was like the locals are blaming the foreigners for Covid, and their lack of business. Police are shaking everyone that passes by the check points, with every public place you go to visit you must sign in at the door, with you details. Good dining was scarce and very hard to find. I found it easier in Surat town to enjoy a good meal. Prices are twice what they are on the mainland, sometimes even triple as the locals want to make up for lost revenue. Again, giving off the impression that the situation is somehow our fault and not a problem we all must share going forward. Sad to see the backwards thinking process to all of this which has occurred in 2020. Domestic tourism will not assist with Samui, for the locals know the island isn't worth much consideration, especially since the local people think they are entitled to special privileges for putting the land up for sale. None of the locals work, they simply sale land or manage rental spaces, with labor coming from Maramar or Issan at best.
I couldn't agree more about Samui. It's that bad it's made me realise the attitude in Pattaya isn't so bad.

Thailand is NOT dealing with the whole problem. The easy part is shutting the borders to the world. The hard part is adapting to live with the virus. Has anyone heard of a single plan of how they plan to do this? I think I need to remind people that this virus is an Asian virus and it's us, the dirty farang, who've been suffering the most. I'm sure the Thai authorities are desperate to get their beloved Chinese back but just remember where all these diseases come from. If anything, it's the westerners who should be the angriest. People are going hungry and donations are slowing and will ultimately dry up. My feeling is that the people at the top are just fine but what about your own people? You can wait for a vaccine, which may never come, but a high percentage won't want to receive the vaccine until it's been proven over time. Take emotions out of the situation and wake up to reality. No economy can survive forever by shutting out the whole world. WHAT'S YOUR PLANS THAILAND?

Quite amazing really. Everyone on here ranting and raving because a farang steals a telephone. Obviously it's wrong but how about the 100's of phones that are stolen everyday by the Thai people? Doesn't seem to be any mention of that. Just ask around and see how many farang have had their phones taken.

Seems to me the cheapest and quickest way to get to Cambodia is via Bangkok, exactly what I've done. Sorry but I'll be adding to those made up figures!!! I have plenty of friends who used to visit Thailand, 6 of us just booked for Cambodia. We're not the minority for sure.

The Songthaews in Phuket are not ten baht, try thirty baht.....so I don't know where you were.
Not sure that's my point. Someone who's trying to negotiate down from 10 baht surely can't be the big spenders Thailand is looking for.

They and Chinese now have more money. Everyone is crying of strong baht but they can spend. Grow up face reality.
Funny how the Thais see it differently. What the Indians have to learn is, whereas they might be big shots in their own country they are nothing, just like the rest of us, in Thailand. They strut around believing they are kings, how wrong they are. This is the REALITY.

It's very easy to avoid the Indians if that's your preference. Stay away from cheap hotels and go to bars, clubs and restaurants.....job done.

Go fast rather then wait ????
I've left already. Unfortunately my next trip involves meeting friends in Bangkok for 2 days (really don't want to be adding to the tourist figures) then we're all off to Cambodia then possibly the Philippines. Feeling excited for the first time in a long time.

I think it's all brilliant. I've needed a kick up the arse to get away from Thailand. I've wanted to get my own back for ages and the Thais have managed to do the job for me. Keep up the bad work Thailand ????????????
-
What is that the Thai authorities are so scared about? It seems clear, at least to me, that they don't want 'farang' to stay in Thailand for any more than 30 days (if at all).Forget all the complaining and talk with your feet. I know people are frustrated but it's time to take action rather than just words. Get out of the place with your sanity and pride intact whilst you can.

I couldn't think of any worse than living there. Thailand has taught me how lucky I am to come from the UK.

When I first visited Thailand 9 years ago I was able to get a Visa allowing me to stay for 15 months with a border run every 90 days. Now I can only get 30 days unless I want to supply bank statements, return plane ticket etc. If for any reason my Visa is denied then my plane ticket is wasted. I've gone from staying 9 months of the year, contributing upwards of £20,000 a year, down to not even going. What does that tell you? I'm just one person.

Covid-19 vaccine 'will be out in 6 months'

Unfortunately Thailand is known for having 'no plan for tomorrow'. Please correct me if there is any kind of plan in place. I'm not a fan of the South but having been to some of the islands at Christmas, and seeing how quiet they were, I can only imagine how they will look next year....let alone the prices.
