So what you are saying is that Chiang Mai is no different from the rest of the worldIMO, most backpackers are fine and many have a lot going for them, but a small number are out to get something for nothing and will cheat and steal while traveling to do it. Unfortunately, the bad apples are the ones that stick out in many people's minds and the rest get a bad reputation.
Many farang's (more than backpackers) lie, cheat and steal in Chiang Mai.

English muffins and crumpets two completely different items.got to admit i laugh a little at those english muffins comments
just buy it, load up with marmite and grated cheese and toast it. i would certainly assure you the following few days will be loaded with threads asking for more crumpets instead of sunday roasts and sandwich

Why are all your comments to postings in TV of such a cynical nature. You must be a very uhappy person. You have rogue traders and bad traders in every country. Your reference to the LSE I am presuming that you are from England. How about the traders in England that have cost J P Morgan 4.5 billion U.S. and counting. How about Barclays bank that was just fined 450 million dollars for rigging libor rates..As I said you have rogue traders and bad traders in all countries. The best way to play the Thai stock market is to open a brokerage account at one of the large firms in Singapore. Many of these firms are also set up for online trading therefore avoiding the huge brokerage fees charged when phoning in orders..
well one guy did quite well I recall brokering there and brought down the whole bank.,
its just as easy to set up your own account via your own country using the LSE, forex, iii, share centre. many many etc etc.
as for CGT, i dont think many of us need to be concerned about that, I certainly am not....maybe in 3yr hence

The only trip it requires is the one from your sofa to your computer. You can open an account wherever you wish do it right here with a Thai stock broker up to you..If you were a professional trader then you would know why I suggested Singapore. The best way to play the Thai stock market is to open a brokerage account at one of the large firms in Singapore. Many of these firms are also set up for online trading therefore avoiding the huge brokerage fees charged when phoning in orders..
That involves a trip to Singapore. Plenty of good firms here in Thailand where you can open an account and trade on the SET, FTSE, SIX, and dozens of other European and Asian exchanges. On-line trading available.

Weather forecasts having been showing possibility of thunders showers or storms for the past 2 months or more. The reality is there has been very little rain in the past 2 months. Days when it does rain it has been for only 15 minutes or so. However August and September are close and that probably means a lot of rain.

Crumpets are usually eaten toasted just like a piece of bread. If you eat them without toasting you will probably think you are eating a dough ball.

Dolly I am shocked that you as a Canadian do not know what a crumpet is.. Every supermarket in the country sells them and always have. They are in the bread section and usually placed beside the english muffinsWhat exactly is a crumpet? Sorry about my American ignorance. From the photo, they look like what we'd call "English muffins", which indeed are great with all the toppings mentioned. I'm not too sure about the marmite though. That sounds like something you use to grout bolts into a concrete wall.
I am with you Nancy. When I looked at the picture the first thought in my mind was Eggs Benedict
and the next one was Eggs Mcmuffin. Got to admit that some of those concoctions sound pretty tasty.
I even thought about Peanut Butter.

In the last year I have Qatar business class for 3 return trips from Yul - BKK. Service and food excellent. All flights arrived at destination on time. I also liked the fact that layover time in Doha was 2 1/2 - 3 hours all flights.

Do you have any evidence to back that up?But I do think I'm probably getting more radiation from the wifi router 3 feet away than I am from my nearest cell tower.
Way more. And way more than that when you chat on the mobile.

By Nim city branch do you mean where Rimping is located? I go to Rimping at least once a week and have never noticed your shop there. If it is located there it is poorly advertised.

Farang owned but Thai cooks and Thai cooks should be able to do a bang up job on Thai food. For some reason, I can't bring myself to eat Thai food in a farang owned restaurant, when there are so many excellent Thai restaurants at much lower cost. However, that being said I still wish Dave all the best with his new venture, though I would have thought it was geared to the tourist trade.

Don't jump to conclusions.Unlikely they returned a day later to commit the same crime at the same place with the same staff. I would be looking at the staff.

Please tell us more about FTA..Personally I have never heard of it but I am very curious and interested.I have TOT WIFI and generally have no problem with speed for downloads etc unless late afternoon early evening.
FTA - we have a satellite dish (actually 3) but one in particular is for FTA via the old Dynasat box which works extremely well with access to around 8 different satellites and subsequently hundreds of FTA channels in various languages.

Seems to me that you are suffering from a guilt complex...Lets look at this from another perspective.. In my case I am the elderly parent divorced from the mother of my children for many many years. I am also financially very comfortable.. But it drives me up the wall when my kids tell me that I am to old to do this or do that. Your to old to live in Thailand, Korea or Japan. Children please leave me alone and let me live my life the way I want to.You should do the same for your parents. Let them live the way they want to. Unless they are suffering financially or from dementia I am sure that they can manage quite well.. Who knows maybe they will out live you.

Like everything else in LOS the left hand doesn't know what the right one is doingIf you had the old box from true then you needed to take it in and have it exchange for a new HD box. Free of charge. The OP has bought a box that is not from True. So guess what ? OP needs to go buy another box that is compatible with thier new HD set up.
Not in Samui. I live in both CM and Samui and here, even though I own the box and dish (their equipment), I had to pay for a new decoder box. True Acid Visions initially told me, via the person at the office and on the phone in Bangkok, that I would get my package of channels free for one month and six months of all HD channels free. Then when I go to get the new box, it's no deal. Pay for the box and pay for the package and nothing free.
Welcome to the occupation....
Mmmm. Why doesn't that surprise me ?

Its a joke...If not then goodbye, Toyota, Nissan, Honda etc etc and millions of Thai jobsThe Department of Business Development Director-General Banyong Limprayoonwong said that the Commerce Ministry has been drafting a set of regulations on the management and the inspection of foreign shareholding in Thai companies, in a bid to more strongly enforce the Alien Business Law of Thailand.
How many other countries call other nationalities Aliens? TM 47 form for ALIENS......

I agree with trainmanSeems people rely on too much aircon. I find contra-rotating wall fans suit us better at night and they don't dry the air out as much. Only use aircon at the very hottest times. 3 bedrooms, office, oven etc. A very airy house close to nature means breeze coming through most of the day. Since building in 2009 I've never had an electric bill higher than 550 Baht.
relying appreciating airconditioning depends on the individual person. any advice such as "i find... i think... why not sweating a bit... i save on airconditioning to buy more beer... etc." is not only irrelevant but ridiculous.
It's not about trying to give advice; quoting a persons own circumstances is neither irrelevant or ridiculous. The OP is asking people what he can do to lower his bills and people have a right to answer as they see fit.

I like the Tuk Tuk's they have in Phitsanulok. Driver has his own cab in front. The back has 2 bench seats on each side like the red bus here.. Can accomodate 4 passengers plus packages.
