  1. I have noted that there are lots of 5star resort popping up in Khao Yai, is it to late to buy into this area as an investment for land purchase ??? If so where, anyone done it doing it ??? The area seams to be attracting lots of very rich Thais paying in excess of 8500 baht a night for pool villas, also these are available on purchase with the guarantee of rental each years to pay toward any mortgage or as an investment. Thoughts ??

  2. Honestly here this is down to your personal position. If your in a position to afford to by a house then you will once you decide to settle. If your the type of person that is able to evaluate risk against the economy at the time and a fair cost price in relation to true value of the property in question then of course you buy as either a property to live in and future investment. However if you want to live in a 6 bed house and can only afford a 2 bed house then you you will rent ;-) or if you simply do not have the capital then rental is good. Thailand over all if buying or renting offers good standards of living against cost.

  3. Yes, that is right, is there any smaller businesses that operate in this market in Thailand ?? Does anyone know if there are smaller service companies of any size other than the big international corporate ones operating in the service industry across Thailand ?? Do big businesses in Thailand use smaller firms that offer cost effective customer service driven supply and service ??

  4. Just a thought at the moment

Bit of a long shot, anyone there on the the ground in BK that thinks they would be able to sell to businesses big corporate ones washroom hygiene services, this would be water saving devices for toilets and urinals these save massive money for the landlord or business owner, air freshener systems for hotels and busy office toilets, washroom papers such as toilet papers and skin car products. Also the hygiene bin services for the washrooms. PHS and Initial have a good business model there in Thailand offering to schools and businesses, hotels and more.

We run a company here in the Uk providing these services, there are high margins and it is a fairly simple business to run when you know how some of our suppliers of the units we use for the rentals also are supplied into Thailand and are popular we are talking to distributors about offering similar in Thailand and there is a keen interest.

I am interested to speak to anyone that might have thoughts on progressing this idea either with a contact database or experience in the type of service in Thailand and selling this service.

PM me if you think it would interest you

  5. Just though i might wake this up again, we are still here in the Uk and I wonder most months from time to time if we still might consider a move to Thailand, my daughter goes to High school in September and it is another time if we were to move that would be a good time to do it before she starts high school.

Hard when you trying to make a decision to suit the best for all, inevitably we will move to Thailand but when,

Are those of you with kids there living in Thailand still all happy with how it is going ??

It's not an easy one and there are lots of factors involved, which are different for everyone. My personal story is that my 4yr old son was brought up in the uk with my Thai husband and I. Like you, I was curious about moving to Thailand - my husband described the wonderful cheap private hospitals and schools etc and I love hot weather! We wre feeling a bit negative about the Nhs and British schools. Our reality was a bit different from 'the dream' and I would say most things are no more affordable here on an equivalent t Thai income. But if you have a good income (I think you mentioned in one of the posts) then those things are a lot more affordable. And realistic expectations! I think my husband had been away so long he had forgotten what life was really like, plus things had changed.

We're going to move back to the uk this year - my husband was a bit reluctant at first and wanted to give it more of a go, but we've had bad experiences with private hospitals plus teaching where we are (big city in Isaan) is ok but not great and even my husband thinks he should be educated in the uk. Teaching methods in thailand are in general more traditional (rote learning). I was a teacher in the uk and I know there are good and bad schools and things are certainly not perfect but I can probably have more input in the uk (and my husband does not have/want a lot of input here).

In terms of opportunities, I would say there are more in the uk - work is far more meritocratic there and (recession aside) young people in their 20s and 30s have far more chance of a good job with responsibility and a good salary than they currently do here. Who knows how things will change by the time our kids leave school/uni but we can only go on the info we have now and our gamble is that his future will be better if we move back. It's a big decision having your kids' future in your hands but we can only do our best!

There are positives about Thailand and I want to make sure we don't lose those when we go back. That has been one of the good things about coming here -seeing what it's really like so we can take on those positive aspects. It's important to us that he has eastern/Thai as well as western/British culture/language etc. my husband and I always say we want to give him the best of both worlds (as opposed to the worst!)

Good luck whatever you decide :-)

Thank you for your reply it is interesting to hear your side of things. I thinks I a little like you get in a rut and think it is worth a try, deep down I know my daughter here has a good well balanced life with lots of opportunity in the future. Who knows good luck getting back to the UK.

  6. We have been in and out of HH for years property was increasing in price very fast and it did appear there was lots empty, lots still being built and unreasonably expensive making investment or purchase to live not not inviting therefore the market was a little stale. Maybe as price start to drop things will move a little

  7. I think you owe it to your children to let them see out the last year or so, I think the impact on the move at this stage in their education would have a marked impact on them. The only way I can see it being even a slight consideration would be to find a good school in BK for them to have a chance to retain the education they have had and get the grades they are wishing for.

  8. Day 4. Finished the book and went out for the final drink which was suggested as something memorably nasty. I took a double Bundaberg rum which from previous memory was a pretty disgusting taste. It didn't fail and I am now on my first sober Friday night for probably 20 years. So far so good although the 'little monster' is suffering withdrawal.

    Will keep you posted.

Still dry here, how's you all doing

Fantastic, it does get easier, changing things you have always done is not easy it get easier but not easy all the time. Just a process of time.

Well done such great news to hear all is well.
