  1. Whilst discussing food and being slightly more careful about what we eat my wife was very proud to explain that Pork belly is okay to eat boiled as boiling food is healthy and the fat in it boils out of it.

The other funny one was whilst discussing walking around the house at night and outside in the garden that the ghosts in thailand are very keen to give you a fright but in Europe there are very few ghosts as it is far to cold and therefor fine to have a wander about.

  2. The only problem I have with agoda is that when you search for a hotel you can only put 2 adults as the search therefor the price is not guaranteed, our booking for BK has gone a little wrong as the hotel now want to charge a breakfast fee for my daughter despite emailing agoda and asking about the booking of my daughter on the booking, they said to go ahead and book and they would add her to the booking. Now the hotel want to charge 300 baht for breakfast !!!!

If you know what websites allow you to book for the whole party rather than only two people please tell me.

  3. You need to to show an income or a fixed amount in a bankaccount in Thailand in your name, the ammount depending on your extension of stay based on being married to a Thai (40,000 a month or 400,000 in the bank for 2 months) or on retirement (65,000 a month income or 800,000 in the bank for 3 months, (first time only 2 months) or a combination of money in the bank and yerly income totaling 800,000 THB.

    Rental income counts as income.

Thanks Mario - I am sure as Hedghog has mentioned things are likely to change but I do need to make sure the plans and foundations I am making will not need to be changed massively to suit the visa requirements. I am looking at taking on a few more properties in the next few years so i will ensure to look at the best way to have these showing income and profit based on the visa needs for showing money in accounts or regular income.

  4. The rules could well of changed a lot in 7 years, your stated timeframe.

Not worth thinking about at this time.

Hi Hedgehog - yes plenty of time to go but as property is rather permanent thing and I need to consider it now if I might be better to make investments in a different way to what I am doing. Do you know of any changes on the horizon at the moment ?

Sure the rules will change though it is just trying to keep up with the changes.

    Thanks for your help

  5. I have never gone for pensions for my future, instead I have gone with investing in property with the idea it will return an income should we stay in their or Thailand,

For the purpose of visa requirements will this effect me ?? I will be looking to retire in about 7 years when I will be about 47 years old. Married to Thai we all presently, live in the UK. Not really wanting to start any new business when I live in Thailand so not planning to work or invest in Thailand as I am not sure I would be over confident with doing so. Leave the property in the Uk maybe sell one to by one in Thailand no more than that though but that would be once we know the score and see how we settle.

    Ideas advice please

  7. Just came across this post for information.

I guess there are not many options for kids and activities. As an example not a comparison.

Uk bases as we are - my daughter attends a local across gymnastic club at county level, all fully qualified coaches. She has two extra home tutoring lessons per week during school time, she does have keyboard lessons, tag rugby and climbing when time allows. All fully insured an delivered by fully qualified teachers.

I ask again what does Thailand have for kids to do other than, TV - computer games and - my daughter did attend a dance class with our Thai friends kids last year at a large shopping mall in hua hin it was okay expensive for what it was as it was more of a lost leader to get the parents into the mall spending money !!!

  8. Your thinking changes for sure but only in a good way. Alcohol is a poison that causes many symptoms, depression which in turn causes many side effects such as be irrational, serious health issues, compulsive behavior and much more.

I stopped drinking now 6 months and must say it is fantastic, I am 80% happier and considering I am a moaning miserable sod anyway that is good for me !!

Still get stressed and moody but not due to not drinking it is down to just general life and the things that happen to us all, the good thing is with a clear head I can solve and sort those issues with ease.

So yes you do change the thought you have when not regularly drunk as you have a clear head.

  9. Hello, we have been going to Thailand for years and have a house we stay in in Buriram rural !! I have never seen a snake at the house or in the garden and wonder why, I might add I have never seen a snake in the wild ever, why oh why might that be, are they scared of the fat falang when I arrive.

Just interested to why there are no snakes around us ?? Any ideas ?

  10. Hey, if your telling the truth and you think she is worth it and you have disposal income then forget the money and take your risk. Yes you should pay sin sod, no you should not, who really cares. Just go ahead. It does seam that in Asia it is expected that if you can afford to pay you should. I am not here to judge or advise but if it was me I would go for a compromise based on the fact it does sound like lots of money and that in your culture this does not happen and make your offer to fall in line with culture and expectations of the family and wishes of your partner.

  11. I have had countless hours thinking about this for myself. I still live in the uk, I think you could be good for now to keep you cash in the bank. If you make you first lesson in business in Thailand to read learn and follow all you can in this forum you will soon get an idea about how hard business is. There are lots of money making ideas that come and go and many do not make money but loose very quickly.

Here in the Uk you could set up a sme for very little and make lots of money no risk. To do the same in a country you do not know or more importantly understand culturally is a big risk.

Time to understand will be of great assistance to you. Free advise within the forums will help you gain any knowledge you need to take any good ideas forward, but be careful nobody tells you how many businesses really fail out here as in admitting it and the ones that tell you how much they have made or how good business is well I think you might find some of that is often a little exaggerated.

Good luck with whatever you do.
