  1. It did have a Europe map on it. I just deleted those as I have the original CD anyways. I then used the files I had on my other Garmin, copied them all and pasted them in the Zumo via USB cable.

The Zumo has a SD card also.

The files on the Nuvi are the usual folders (Garmin, GPX, Help, keyboards, pictures etc) plus these 2 files D242661.ver and H009361.ver. Last one is nuvi_drive.

  2. My dad got a new GPS for his Goldwing, so he gave me his old one, a Garmin Zumo 500/550 with all the accessories. Only problem, it doesn't have the Thai map on it.

I tried replacing the old files with those from my other Garmin (Nuvi 2465). It imported my old saved locations, but the map is not visible.

Can anyone tell me how to install the Thailand map the cheapest way possible?

    thank you

  3. New bike, new gear.

I'm looking for a new helmet, possibly with the raisable chin part. Budget is around 10k.

I've seen some good looking ones online, but don't know anything about the brands. They are HJC and Shark.

Can anyone report on quality and maybe a good place in Bangkok to get a decent helmet?

Suggestions of other helmets are welcome.

    Thank you

  4. IIl, I agree with you. I prefer travelling light too.

However, I feel lucky enough to have a wife who enjoys riding with me, and 1 T-shirt is just not enough for 1 week for her (or for me for that matter)

I don't like tank bags for fear of scratching the tank. Maybe those new tank lock mounts eliminate that problem, I don't know.

As with so many things in life, it's a matter of personal necessities and preferences if you want panniers or not.

There are good reasons for having them and there are good reasons not to have them. There's no ground for an argument really.

Belittling people for using them and calling them gay is just childish nonsense imo.

  5. Good on you, macho man.

No wonder you're riding without pillion....with your attitude. I, on the other hand, have a wife I care about, and she needs her stuff. There's no way around it.

So, now...please mind your own business and keep your very vocal but ultimately useless opinions to yourself.

If you can bring anything substantial to the discussion at hand, you're welcome to do so.

    So long

  6. These are nice and actually look decent for a sportbike- about $360 for the ER-6N if you can source them in the States at TwistedThrottle.com:

Yes, these are the bags I was talking about. Made by Bags Connection in Germany and sold by Panda Rider in Bangkok for 10k. Quality looks very good. A friend recommended them.

If you're serious about travelling by bike, good panniers or saddlebags are a must. Of course, if you only ride to the bar and back to show off, you might be led to think they would impede you very masculine juices from flowing. Serious riders know what I'm talking about, though. whistling.gif

  7. Thanks for the info. I'll have a look.

I've been recommended the Bags Connection by a friend. They're made in Germany and cost around 10k. He had some cheaper bags before (mocyc.com bags) which were terrible, so I'm a bit weary about buying cheap Chinese stuff.

The Alpinestars look ok in the pics, but I wonder how they would hold up in time.

  8. You're crazy if you think I would even consider putting HD saddlebags on it.
There are saddlebags out there made especially for the ER6n.
Google "Bags Connection" for the ER.

And then, first you say the ER is underpowered and heavy 'beginners' bike....and now you're saying it's a sport bike? Make up your mind.

When you put down someone or something, it says more about you than about what you're trying to put down.

Look, I've done it for you...

  9. Actually, I'm a bit surprised by your comment.

I've ridden one before, with passenger and bags, around Chiang Mai, and found it very enjoyable with more than enough power to handle the weight.

But then, my wife and I are of normal weight.

    How much do you weigh?

  10. I'm excited to get the bike and I was thinking about some decent saddlebags. Not the top box, as I don't like them. Just 2 soft but sturdy sidebags, possibly with bracket..and not for crazy money.

By now you guys must have tried and tested all there is out there...

    Do you have any suggestions?

  11. The one I saw was a tricked out KSR (which he rarely rode too) and he told me about a Volvo 4x4 that he sold after 3-4 years with only 5.000km on it. Same story, the buyer could hardly believe it.

He also told me that at the time he bought the ER, he couldn't even ride a big bike. He had to go to Rama9 for 6 weeks to take lessons in the car park of the Kawa dealer! biggrin.png

    What a guy!

  12. Just came back from Bkk.

    VENI, VIDI, EMPTUM

The bike is immaculate. It has the original Dunlop tires on (year 2009) and you can still see some of the 'titties', not the coloured lines though. How long can these tires be used?

Apart from a set of sliders, the bike is completely original.

I checked all around the bike for signs of usage, but it's spotless. The key itself and around the key lock are like new, no scratches whatsoever anywhere...just as you would expect from a new bike. The only blamish I could find, was the front light transparent plastic had warped a bit due to prolonged heat exposure from the light bulb. The guy explained it happened when his driver started the bike from time to time and let it run to keep the battery alive. I wonder how long it takes for the plastic to warp like that....

Paperwork is all there. The service book shows the first service (1000km) done in 2012. Guess they didn't know where to write it. The bike has now 71km!

The guy, who works for one of the biggest companies worldwide, has more toys than time, and was actually very nice. I think this is truly a unique find.

Needless to say that I bought it. 170k

    Happy days!

  13. I understand funcat.

I was supposed to go today, but a bad cold with bouts of fever won't let me. Will go tomorrow, inshallah.

Called the guy, and he seems very friendly and genuine on the phone. I asked him again about the 69km, and he assured me they are original. He's a busy businessman and only rode the bike up and down the Soi, while his driver took care of the basic maintenance.

    Will report tomorrow.

  14. Seems like it's a "she", well off and frequently abroad. Said her driver took care of maintenance and tax...

I guess if it has more than 69km, it should be quite easy to spot.

I would be prepared to spend a bit more than 160k if everything is legit. Asking price is 175k now, was 190k 2 months ago.

  15. Hi guys

I've been entertaining the idea of getting a ER6n since they came out here in 2009. Lately I have a bit more cash to spare, so I thought I take the chance and get one. After some research, I found this 09 model (no ABS I believe) with only 69km. Yes, you read it right....69km on the clock! It's in showroom condition. Will go to check it out on Saturday. Just as a rough indication, what would you pay for it?

It's basically a new bike, but it's been sitting for 5years.... should I look out for certain areas?

I have to add that it's exactly what I was looking for, color, condition, and price wise seems ok as well.
