When one makes fun out of something they don't understand, it says more about their ignorance than about the thing they try to ridicule.

I'm not trying to put them on the same level. Just as science explores and maps the manifest world, there's another 'science', or school of thought, that explores and maps the unmanifest world.
Like I said, don't take my or anybody else's word for it. Find out by yourself.
Or are you waiting for science to give you all the answers you need.
In any case, I don't expect anyone to change his mind about life just by reading some forum posts. I know I wouldn't.
People always find evidence somewhere for what they already believe, whatever that might be.
All I'm saying is: I know nothing, you know nothing about life and death. Science and spirituality are different pieces of a big puzzle and a true seeker of truth is well advised to embrace both.

I agree on many of your points, however I must point out that while science or the scientific method goes back 400 years, the 'science' of the mind has been explored and mapped for much much longer than that. You can't use the tools you use in science to prove or disprove those findings, just like you can't use carpenter tools to do brain surgery. Each has its place and function and one doesn't have to negate the other. They complement each other.
The whole argument that spirituality doesn't exist because it can't be subjected to scientific analysis is fundamentally flawed. There have been attempts to do so, that were more or less successful, but they can only scratch the surface of what is at least for now, beyond the scientific reach.
If you're a scientific minded person, you have to keep an open mind and not exclude possibilities that don't fit with your belief system.
The inner worlds are open for everyone to explore. There are maps in place that describe the pitfalls and breakthroughs you will encounter. Don't believe what others say about it, test it yourself. Sure, it takes preseverance and dedication, but the rewards are beyond description.
Sadly, for many it's much easier to outright deny and/or ridicule those teachings than to actually trying to find the truth.

Hmmm....not condescending at all...well done.I believe reincarnation is a popular theme in many books, movies, shows. It is a great way to keep people in line. Works great with kids and most often when they grow up they do not realize that they are not kids anymore.
You're so sure about how everything works, you could answer some of the big questions that have bothered humanity for thousands of years.
I won't hold my breath.
Those who don't know speak the loudest.
Or...
He who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool; shun him.
He who knows not and knows that the knows not is a child; teach him.
He who knows and knows not that he knows is asleep; wake him.
He who knows and knows that he knows is wise; follow him

Where were the souls before the earth was formed?
This is a very 3D question...
When we return home, we transcend 3D and merge with all there is. You might as well ask where love is or where God is (if you believe in God, that is).
If you really want a 3D answer, I could say that Earth is a pretty young planet and there are far older ones out there.
Besides, where is your soul now?

Personally, I embrace both science and spirituality (not religion). I used to be atheist until I had a profound experience. After that I just couldn't deny that there was something more. So I started reading everything I could put my hands on, trying to make sense out of what happened. I found that others had had the same or similar experiences.
My 'believe' is rooted in first hand experience and mixed with knowledge from many very special people who have walked the path before me and I feel I can trust them.
This is no different from what atheists do, by the way. Their believe also is a mix of their own unique experiences and data they take from reliable sources, which they assume to be true.
I have no problems with people who deny the existence of something beyond our 5 senses, as long as they don't try shove it down my throat. Sadly, many do.
Regarding reincarnation, I have no doubt I've been here many times before.Thailand didn't change that.
I don't identify with my believes. If there would come along a better explanation (even a scientific one), I would gladly accept it.
Many people are afraid of dying and they do anything possible not to think about it. I think this is the time to learn as much as we can about death. Once you lose the fear of death, you become free to live.
Let's not forget...our 6 senses. The mind comes into contact with phenomena just like the eyes and ears etc etc.
What was your experience, if you don't mind? (just interested)
And i couldn't agree more with what you say about learning about death.

I rather not throw the details of what is one of my most precious moments of my life to people who won't understand them and worse just redicule them.
I have no need to convince anyone.
If you really want to know, send me a PM and I'll try to answer your questions.

Very sad.
If you've ever worked in a kitchen or watched Kitchen Nightmares on TV, you know that the conditions in so many restaurants are appalling...everywhere.
I got food poisoning 3 times in London (in 6 years), so far never in Thailand (7 Years).

I was out on a ride today and loved my new bike. The only thing missing in my opinion is SOUND. I'm so used to my Yamaha SR and its powerful sound. I always know what gear I'm in and how many RPM she's running at. I miss that feeling on the ER.
Solution: get a slip on muffler.
Now, I don't need anything too loud, just louder than the original one, which wouldn't be difficult to find, as I can probably fart louder than the sound coming from that silencer. Performance is not an issue. Well, hp shouldn't decrease of course. Also, I would prefer not to have problems with the O2 bung and with backfiring.
What mufflers can you suggest?
thank you

the ATGATT Brigade will hate them ......
I wonder where these people are.
Been riding here 10 years, and have yet to see a fully-outfitted rider on a scooter.
Funnily enough, I saw one a few months back. With elbow and knee protectors and all the bells and whistles from gear heaven. He was riding a Fino.
I thought he must have lost his marbles.
Here's a pic of me today in the usual riding gear.
The Airoh helmet is ventilated pretty well. Maybe not ventilated enough, judging from my face!
Jacket is called SKIN3...pretty heavy leather jacket, but feels indestructible...and it was a gift. Can't beat that.
Trousers are called "Performance Protection" with Kevlar inserts. They're at least one number too large. Found them in the classifieds for 1000Baht. Another winner.
The boots are Icon Elsinore. Those were not cheap, but I love them anyways. They look great and fit like a glove.
Speaking of gloves...summer gloves by Spidi, I believe.
That said, I've been spotted riding to the local 7/11 in flip flops and no helmet. I think there is a time and place for everything...even for careless abandon.

I can only recommend create.net, based in the UK. Excellent customer service and very reasonable prices. Easy to set up and customize by yourself.
Rates start from 5Pounds up to 36Pounds a month.
The websites runs smoothly. In 2 years only had minor issues that were dealt with quickly and competently.
Once you have the website online, make sure you do your SEO, constantly add new content and products and use the in-build blog to promote your products.
good luck

Sure, I was skeptic at first, but after meeting the guy and seeing the bike I knew it was the real deal. Long story short, the guy can afford to have more toys than time.
That's a good approach I think, buying from an individual you can assess yourself. Can I ask where did you see the ad? I'm interested in checking out the 2nd hand market as well.
I found it on olx.co.th, formerly known as dealfish. Lots of nice bikes there.
2 months ago he advertised it for 190k. I liked it, but not thaaaat much. He then advertised it again for 175k, that's when I got more interested. Got down to 170k, deal done. You should see it...it's absolutely in mint condition. I put up a few pics on the ER6 thread on TV.
Buying a brand new bike sounds nice, but the practical part of me just can't stomach the loss of value you have to face as soon as you ride out of the dealer. With my deal, I guess I got the best of both worlds. :-)

Funny, I like the 2009-11 ER6n much better than the new one. Just bought a 09 model in showroom condition with only 69km on it. :-)
The Gladius looks good too. If you're not crazy about a few hp more, imo the more rational decision would be to go with the ER6n. Price, parts, maintenance....all favor the Kwak.
But then, buying a bike is rarely a rational step.
I, too, would suggest renting a smaller bike for a few days (250cc) to get the feel for it. I don't want to sound too morbid, but in the last 2 weeks there have been several posts on the ER6 facebook group of accidents with less than fortunate outcomes. They sure are a good reminder that we are all just a short step from the other side.
Whatever you end up getting, be careful out there.
good luck

The reliability issues lie with the mechanics, not with the bike. My 98 SR is as reliable as any new bike.
I do most of the maintenance and modifications by myself, so that may be one of the reasons.
-
I don't thing the new SR will sell a lot of bike in Thailand. There are so many older ones around for a fraction of the price. Granted, they don't have green books, but that's only a problem if you live in Bkk or Pattaya.
Different story in the US and Europe (except Germany perhaps), where lots of people were 'starving'for SR. The old ones were very difficult to find in the US. I personally know of 5 people there who already bought one.
An electric starter on the SR? Aaaarrrgghhh HERESY!!!!
Seriously, no need for that.
The SR has to stay the way it's always been. The FI is already a big concession to modern times imo.
Yamaha could come up with another retro bike, though, maybe with a nice XS styled engine.

I have 2 SR and a ER6n, so I think I'm qualified enough to reply.
First, I don't understand why people complain about the high price, when they don't even like the bike. I too think it's on the high side, and not only in Thailand. But there's nothing you can do about that, so take it or leave it. If you want a cheap SR, there are plenty on the Thai market from 60k to 120k (most are not registered though).
Second, bickering about different styles of bikes...is just stupid imo. I don't like inline 4s, but I don't feel the need to tell everyone how much better thumpers or twins are. It's just a personal preference.
I like variety. That's why I have different bikes for different moods and different purposes.
The SR is a great bike and I hope it'll stay with us for many years to come. It reminds us of how much fun can be had with such a simple bike. No fancy electronic stuff or materials, just an honest, down to earth bike.

Actually, swimming naked is one of the most enjoyable things ever. I wonder how it would be to ride naked. The sense of freedom must be enormous.....as long as you stay upright, that is.
-
If I were Mr Highwaymachoman, I would ride naked to show all those gays what a stud I am.
:-p

I saw these bags on Panda's website. I don't really want to put bags on my tank, nor on my back, if possible. Kriega doesn't do saddlebags, or did I miss them?
Tailbags are nice if you ride alone...
I think I'll wait until the Bags Connection bags arrive end of July.
Thanks for the tip though.

Yes, brainwashing is bad. Every country, every society has its own particular type of brainwashing.
Some are brainwashed through religion, some through politics, others through atheistic worldviews...
Deal with it.
